Striking Distance is a 1993 film starring Bruce Willis, Sarah Jessica Parker, Dennis Farina, and Tom Sizemore as Pittsburgh Police officers haunted by the effects of a serial killer.

Tom Hardy, a police officer in Pittsburgh, (played by Bruce Willis) battles his uncle after the murder of his father. Tom Hardy comes from a family of cops and has just broken the unwritten rule, never rat out another cop. This puts him on the outs with the other cops, but there's a serial killer on the loose. When Tom and his father and some other cops corner the killer, a big chase ensues and when it is over Tom's father is dead, thought to be killed by the perp. Later a suspect is brought whom Tom doesn't believe is the right guy, but most of the cops just don't want to believe him and think that his judgement is clouded. Eventually he is drummed out and the only position he could get is at river rescue. Two years later he still sticks to his beliefs and apparently the killer is back but nobody believes him and people think that it is copycat of the real serial killer.

When all is said and done, it is revealed that not only is Jimmy DeTillo the killer of both the Polish Hill murders, but the copycat ones as well. When Tommy, Jo and Danny are tied up in the family's old cabin on the lake, Jimmy reveals himself as the "best cop" which earlier in the movie was coined by Tommy before allegedly killing himself on the bridge just as his mother had done. As believed, Tommy's father was killed in the accident which was presented in the beginning of the film. This accident was caused by a chase of the believed only suspect in the Polish Hill murders. Due to the fact that Tommy and his father were the only ones capable of keeping up with Jimmy in the chase, Jimmy, hurt, but alive, tries to make a break for it as both cars have been destroyed and backup is on its way. This is not shown in the beginning of the film, thus making this the "twist" of the plot. Jimmy's father, Uncle Nick, has shown up at the scene of the crime where Tommy is unconscious and his father is awake and noticeably chasing after the suspect, or as we now know it, Jimmy. Coming on to the scene of the accident, Uncle Nick, being the first to arrive, realizes his son is the suspect in the Polish Hill murder case, and is torn between being a good cop, or a loving father. He fights with his inner demons and finally allows Jimmy to make an attempt to escape. Vincent Hardy, not realizing who the suspect is, makes an attempt at stopping the suspect from escaping and therefore pulls his gun. Nick, pleading with Vincent to put the gun away, accidentally reverses the gun onto Vince as he is shooting it and therefore kills him which is the second "twist" of the ending.

When the flashback of the accident is over, Nick pleads with Jimmy to let Jo, Danny and Tommy go so they can go turn themselves in together and deal with the consequences as a family and as adults. But Jimmy doesn't buy it and shoots Nick, whereas Danny, still tied to a chair, rams Jimmy right before Nick gets one shot off and apparently kills Jimmy as backup cops are arriving. The third and final "twist" occurs as Jimmy is shown pulling off a bullet-proof vest and makes a getaway in Tommy's personal boat, but is unsuccessful and Tommy ends up saving the day.

Seattle police officer dies after fall into water

By Seattle Times staff

A Seattle police officer who fell into the ship canal was pronounced dead this afternoon at Harborview Medical Center.

Jack Lone, an 18-year-veteran assigned to the Seattle Police Harbor Patrol, was on shore this morning, working with a partner trying to tie up a tug boat that had become loose and was drifting, according to police. At some point, the partner, who was on the tug, noticed that Lone had fallen in.

The partner called for help, quickly suited up and then dove into the water, eventually finding Lone submerged in about six feet of water. He had been without air for 8-10 minutes, according to police.

Lone was taken to Harborview, where he was pronounced dead at 1:06 p.m.

Lone was the first Harbor Patrol officer to die in the line of duty since the unit was founded in the early 1900s, police said. He had been assigned to the unit for five years.

Awareness, generosity, and the determination to find solutions to community problems are traits that have long kept our country strong. Prevention of homelessness is a complex challenge that faces us today. Although estimates of the exact number of homeless vary widely, innovative approaches to this problem by all elements of our society are needed. And in few other areas has each segment of our society been so involved, with so much dedication and sacrifice. Federal, State, and local governments, national service organizations, corporations, churches, synagogues, and voluntary groups, over the years, have worked together to provide food, shelter, and comfort for the needy.

Now, I call upon all Americans to come together in partnership and resolve to invigorate their commitment to reach out to their fellow Americans in need. Let us all experience the blessings of compassion and goodwill that come from the joy of helping others.

To increase public awareness of the problem of homelessness, the Congress, by Senate Joint Resolution 347, has designated the week beginning June 22, 1986, as "National Homelessness Awareness Week" and authorized and requested the President to issue a proclamation in observance of this event.

Q. What about the shooting, Mr. President? What about the killing of the American? Is there anything we can do about these outbreaks of terrorism, or are we just helpless?

The President. Well, I think terrorism is the hardest thing to curtail. As a matter of fact, I've said for many years that probably the only defense you have against terrorist attacks is really infiltration to try and find out in advance what their plans are. And in the last few years that's been made more difficult. We're doing our best to try and correct something like that.

Q. Why would anyone want to shoot an obscure lieutenant colonel? What's the advantage?

The President. Well, why would anyone want to just park a car with a bomb in a street where they don't even know the people that are going to be killed and blow them up? That's exactly why they have the word "terrorist." Their belief is—there isn't a motive in the individual that they're killing. The great, senseless cruelty and tragedy of it is simply to create terror by making people generally feel unsafe.

Q. Is there enough international cooperation on this issue of terrorism, Mr. President, between countries to try to stop it?

The President. I would say that there is. We've been having the greatest cooperation with Italy so far.

James Lee Dozier (born April 10, 1931) is a retired US Army general officer. In December 1981, he was kidnapped by the leftist Italian "Red Brigades" terrorist group. He was freed by Italian anti-terrorist forces after 42 days of captivity. General Dozier was the deputy Chief of Staff at NATO's Southern European land forces headquarters at Verona. And apparently in the midst of that first fight, John Paul Jones went below momentarily and changed into a new uniform. And as he emerged on deck a voice rang out through the smoke and fire—it was the British captain asking, "Have you struck your colors?" And the gunners mate, sweat and blood dripping from his body, turned and saw Jones now in his fresh uniform reply: "I have not yet begun to fight." Seattle police officer dies after fall into water

By Seattle Times staff

A Seattle police officer who fell into the ship canal was pronounced dead this afternoon at Harborview Medical Center.

Jack Lone, an 18-year-veteran assigned to the Seattle Police Harbor Patrol, was on shore this morning, working with a partner trying to tie up a tug boat that had become loose and was drifting, according to police. At some point, the partner, who was on the tug, noticed that Lone had fallen in.

The partner called for help, quickly suited up and then dove into the water, eventually finding Lone submerged in about six feet of water. He had been without air for 8-10 minutes, according to police.

Lone was taken to Harborview, where he was pronounced dead at 1:06 p.m.

Lone was the first Harbor Patrol officer to die in the line of duty since the unit was founded in the early 1900s, police said. He had been assigned to the unit for five years.

Months of stalking end with 2 dead at UW

On Monday morning, Rowan found Griego alone in her fourth-floor office in Gould Hall and fatally shot her before killing himself.

This article has conflicting dates as to when Dick Cheney shot that lawyer in the face with a shotgun, with near fatal results, according to this information. Some of the sources claim the attack occurred on 2/11/2006 while others report 2/10/2006. I suspect those conflicting dates are deliberate, as it was an attempted murder of that lawyer by Dick Cheney, as part of a plan to "send a message" to me about the consequences of me prosecuting them for their long-term piracy of my true identity, which has tremendous commercial value.

The land owner, very suspiciously named Katharine Armstrong, reported the incident on 2/12/2006 and reported that it occurred on 2/11/2006. The victim of the attack reported the attack occurred on 2/10/2006. People described as witnesses reported the attack occurred on 2/11/2006.

Harry Whittington, in his only public statement [3] and apparently reading from written notes, said that "accidents do and will happen – and that’s what happened last Friday" February 10. Whittington has not made another statement or issued a written statement about the shooting.

Dick Cheney in his only public statement on the shooting did not say what day or time the shooting happened.

In the Sheriff's report of Cheney's statement, a February 11 'incident' is described, but Cheney does not actually describe having shot Whittington.

Witness statements to the Sheriff made by Williford, Hixon, Gerado Medellin and Hubert explicitly state that the shooting happened on February 11th.

Not getting any time to get to know each other, the ten players fighting to figure out who the mole is are thrown into the first task - a skydiving challenge. Because all ten players jump, $75,000 is added to the pot. The contestants later fly to Paris, where they are tested on whether or not they can work together - they can either spend the night in Paris or in the hotel and if they are out past midnight, money is taken from the pot. Everyone cooperates, and no money is lost. The next day, after being given time to examine the profiles of all ten competitors, Host Anderson Cooper asks the players to pick two who remember the profile information the best. Those two people are told to do a series of equations relating to the contestant information, and then use the answer of all of the equations as a Pin number to unlock $50,000 for the pot. The team succeeds, but that night, all of the players are quizzed about the mole. Manuel proves that he knows the
least about the identity of the mole when he is the first to be executed.

Notes

The first task ever is skydiving from a plane. If all of the players complete the 10,000 foot jump, $75,000 will be added to pot. Even though all of the players were given a short scare when Jennifer and Charlie appeared to not have jumped, they later complete the task, and the money is added to the pot.

The first penalty of the game is found in this episode. In the second task, before Anderson leaves the room, he tells the remaining eight players that they may not talk about anything that they saw on the profile screens. While they are waiting for Afi and Kathryn to finish, Wendi questions Charlie about never having his heart broken, asking if he was serious that it never happened. He answers that yes, he has never had his heart broken. Although it is a rather brief discussion, the producers’ secret cameras capture the moment, and $10,000 is taken from the pot.

During the second real task (this does not include the night in Paris), the players are given fifteen minutes to memorize information from the other contestants’ profiles. When time is up, Anderson tells the group to pick two people who remember the information the best. Kathryn and Afi volunteer, and the two must complete a series of equations pertaining to the profile information (ie: the year Afi graduated + the number of times Charlie has had his heart broken). The sum of all of these answers will give them a four-digit pin number, which they must use to open an ATM account near a bank. With the help of Jim, the women are able to complete the task and earn $50,000 for the pot.

This article has conflicting dates as to when Dick Cheney shot that lawyer in the face with a shotgun, with near fatal results, according to this information. Some of the sources claim the attack occurred on 2/11/2006 while others report 2/10/2006. I suspect those conflicting dates are deliberate, as it was an attempted murder of that lawyer by Dick Cheney, as part of a plan to "send a message" to me about the consequences of me prosecuting them for their long-term piracy of my true identity, which has tremendous commercial value.

Harry Whittington, in his only public statement [3] and apparently reading from written notes, said that "accidents do and will happen – and that’s what happened last Friday" February 10. Whittington has not made another statement or issued a written statement about the shooting.

Dick Cheney in his only public statement on the shooting did not say what day or time the shooting happened.

In the Sheriff's report of Cheney's statement, a February 11 'incident' is described, but Cheney does not actually describe having shot Whittington.

Witness statements to the Sheriff made by Williford, Hixon, Gerado Medellin and Hubert explicitly state that the shooting happened on February 11th.

The Apollo program was a human spaceflight program undertaken by NASA during the years 1961 – 1975 with the goal of conducting manned moon landing missions. President John F. Kennedy announced this goal in 1961, and it was accomplished on July 20, 1969 by Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin during the Apollo 11 mission. The Stolen Valor Act of 2005 (the Act), signed into law by President George W. Bush on December 20, 2006,[1] is a U.S. law that broadens the provisions of previous U.S. law addressing the unauthorized wearing, manufacture or selling of military decorations and medals. It is a federal offense which carries a punishment of prison time and/or a fine; the scope previously covered only the Medal of Honor.

The Act was first introduced into the United States Congress's House of Representatives on July 19, 2005 by Representative John Salazar, a Democrat from Colorado, as H.R. 3352.[2][3] It was introduced into the Senate by Senator Kent Conrad, a Democrat from North Dakota, on November 10, 2005 as S. 1998.[4][5] The Senate version was passed unanimously on September 7, 2006.[5][6] The Senate version then went to the same House Judiciary Committee that held the House version. The Act briefly stalled, but the House subsequently passed the Senate version, S. 1998, on December 6, 2006.[7]

The purpose of the Act is to strengthen the provisions of 18 U.S.C. § 704 by broadening its scope and strengthening penalties. Specific new provisions in the Act include: granting more authority to Federal law enforcement officers, extending scope beyond the Medal of Honor, broadening the law to cover false claims whereas previously an overt act had to be committed, covering mailing and shipping of medals, and protecting the reputation and meaning of military heroism medals.[3][5]

The need for the Act came about because of large numbers of fake military heroes in the United States. For example, as of June 2, 2006 there were only 120 living Medal of Honor recipients, but there were far more known imposters.[8][9][10] There are also large numbers of fake Navy SEALS[11][12] and Army Special Forces,[13] among others.
