Homer Alone

Everyday stress sends Marge on a solitary vacation, leaving Bart and Lisa with Aunts Selma and Patty, while Maggie is home alone with Homer---until she leaves in search of Marge.

Homer goes to sleep. ``All's well that ends well.'' Marge is still upset. She watches television and catches an advertisement for ``Rancho Relaxo'', Springfield's only two-star health spa.

Swim, play tennis, or just sit and stare at the walls.

She shuts off the television and wakes Homer. She says she needs a vacation. Homer reminds her that the family just took a vacation.

Bart Gets an Elephant

Original airdate in N.A.: 31-Mar-94

Bart is inexorable: "Uh, Gentlemen, I am not leaving without my elephant." But he and Homer are both tossed out anyway. "Where's my elephant?" Bart demands at the window repeatedly. The DJs close the window, but over the song they play next, Bart's queries can still be heard faintly. At the Springfield Retirement Castle, Abe notes, "Hey, they're playing the elephant song!" Jasper loves that; it reminds him of elephants. Kent Brockman even editorializes, "So isn't that what we're all asking in our own lives -- 'where's my elephant?' I know that's what I've been asking."

At the KBBL studios, Bill and Marty's boss gives them a dressing-down.

Boss: Look, our ratings are down, and the station is being swamped with angry calls and letter-bombs. [A few letter-bombs explode in a pile] And it's all your fault!

Bill: Yes it is, ma'am.

Boss: This is the DJ 3000. It plays CDs automatically, and it has three distinct varieties of inane chatter. [presses a button]

DJ 3000: [stilted] Hey, hey. How about that weather out there? Woah! _That_ was the caller from hell. Well, hot dog! We have a weiner.

Bill: Man, that thing's great!

Marty: _Don't_ praise the machine!

Boss: If you don't get that kid an elephant by tomorrow, the DJ 3000 gets your job.

[Marty punches it]

DJ 3000: Those clowns in congress did it again. What a bunch of clowns.

Bill: [laughs] How does it keep up with the news like that?

Wikipedia

George Washington Memorial Bridge

The George Washington Memorial Bridge (commonly called the Aurora Bridge) is a cantilever and truss bridge that carries Aurora Avenue N. (State Route 99) over the west end of Seattle's Lake Union between Queen Anne and Fremont, just east of the Fremont Cut. The bridge is 2,945 ft (898 m) long, 70 ft (21 m) wide, and 167 ft (51 m) above the water, and is owned and operated by the Washington State Department of Transportation.

The bridge was opened to traffic on February 22, 1932. It was accepted to the National Register of Historic Places in 1982. The bridge is a popular location for suicide jumpers and numerous reports have used the bridge as a case study in fields ranging from suicide prevention to the effects of prehospital care on trauma victims.

The bridge was nominated for the National Register of Historic Places on January 2, 1980 for its "functional and aesthetic" design qualities and for its historical status as the first bridge constructed in the region without streetcar tracks. It was accepted to the National Register on July 16, 1982.

Suicides

The bridge's height and pedestrian access make it a popular location for suicide jumpers. Since construction, there have been over 230 completed suicides from the bridge, with nearly 50 deaths occurring in the past decade. The first suicide occurred in January 1932, when a shoe salesman leapt from the bridge before it was completed.

Numerous reports have been written about the high incidence of suicide on the bridge, many of them using the bridge as a case study in fields ranging from suicide prevention to the effects of prehospital care on trauma victims.

Despite the force of impact, jumpers occasionally survive the fall from the bridge, though not without sustaining serious injuries.

News sources have referred to the George Washington Memorial Bridge as a suicide bridge and, in December 2006, six emergency phones and 18 signs were installed on the bridge to encourage people to seek help instead of jumping. In late 2006 a group of community activists and political leaders living near the bridge created the Fremont Individuals and Employees Nonprofit to Decrease Suicides (FRIENDS), their primary focus being the installation of a suicide barrier on the bridge.

What about Fort Pastor?
If you had wings. The road's thick with those motherfuckers.
- How do you know?

Kenneth: Oh, I get it. You saw hell yesterday, and now you're scared of going to hell for all the bad things you've done. I'll tell you what, go in the stall, say 5 Hail Marys, wipe your ass, and you and God can call it even!

Dawn Of The Dead [ RACKETEER INFLUENCED AND CORRUPT ORGANIZATIONS US Title 18 ]

So what do you think?
What is this? Is this the end of times?
Cos if it is, I'm fucked.
I'm serious. I've done some bad things.
Oh, I get it. You saw hell yesterday,
now you're scared of going to hell for all the bad things you've done.
Go in the stall, say five Hail Marys,
wipe your ass, and you and God can call it even.
You think I feel like I deserve to be here?
- Yeah. - Well, I don't.
And I'm cool with that.
But that's not it. I feel like I'm here for another reason.
I feel like I'm here to bring that baby on this earth
and give it everything that I never had.
I just want the opportunity to change things.

Nazi propaganda

Propaganda, the coordinated attempt to influence public opinion through the use of media, was skillfully used by the Nazi Party in the years leading up to and during Adolf Hitler's leadership of Germany (1933–1945). Nazi propaganda provided a crucial instrument for acquiring and maintaining power, and for the implementation of their policies, including the pursuit of total war and the extermination of millions of people in the Holocaust.

Homer Alone

Homer comes into Maggie's room for her 9am feeding. (It's 11:45.) But she's gone! Home searches everywhere. Barney announces that he's going to make a breakfast omelet. But Homer wants him to help look for the baby.

Barney thinks he's found Maggie, underneath the front stoop. He pulls with all his might. ``Barney, you're going to pull her arm off!'' ``The sooner I get her out, the sooner we can have omelets!'' Barney finally wrests it free. A water hose (spraying).

Maggie wanders through the Springfield Mall. She spots a tall, blue hairdo in the beauty salon...

Hairdresser: So, what's the verdict?

Woman: [realizes she's been given a Marge Simpson hairdo] Oh, dear God! I can't even put a bag over my head!

Hairdresser: Yes you can.

-- ``Homer Alone''

Disappointed, Maggie continues...

Homer calls the Department of Missing Babies. The hold music is ``Baby Come Back''. Homer starts crying.
