Physics genius Quinn Mallory has been tooling around in his basement for months, trying to create an anti-gravity device. However, he has stumbled on to something much greater - something that appears to be a gateway! Curious as to what's on the other side, he invites his old friend Wade Wells and his physics teacher, Professor Maximillian Arturo, to venture into the gateway with him. While creating the gateway, however, Quinn uses too much power, and the vortex snags a fourth passenger: Rembrandt Brown, a former pop star who just happened to be in the neighbourhood. The vortex drops them in a world where a new Ice Age has begun, a world where they must somehow survive until Quinn's timer reaches zero.

Back in the basement, Arturo is having trouble envisioning a gateway into parallel universes, and calls Quinn's theory preposterous. Quinn simply opens the gateway and lets Arturo see it for himself. He explains that Sliding through the gateway will take them to the same planet, but a different dimension. Wade is eager to hop in and try the Slide. Arturo, on the other hand, thinks the wormhole needs to be carefully studied first. Wade's exuberance wins the day, and Quinn decides to set the timer for a five-hour journey. Wade doesn't think all three will fit through the gateway, and so Quinn increases the power output to support the transit. The wormhole drags all three into in and then moves out into the road where it manages to catch a passing Rembrandt Brown and drag him inside as well. Rembrandt exits the wormhole at a fast pace, slamming his car into an ice wall. The other three land in a frozen version of Quinn's basement.
The trio staggers to their feet and try to get their bearings. Quinn finds some candles and they head upstairs into a snow-covered kitchen. Quinn finds a family photo, but notices a few changes in it. For one thing, there is a dog that ran away when it was just a puppy on Quinn's world, and he seems to have a sister. They force open the front door and head outside. Rembrandt spots them leaving the house and calls to them, and as they look over, they notice the city of San Francisco, covered with ice in the background.

Their arguing is interrupted by a low rumbling noise, and they look outside the car to see an approaching ice twister. Now Rembrandt is insistent that they be transported home. The twister begins to turn the car about, and rips the roof off the Cadillac. Quinn grabs the timer and activates it, causing it to malfunction.

Memorable quotes for
2001: A Space Odyssey (1968)
Dave Bowman: Hello, HAL. Do you read me, HAL?
HAL: Affirmative, Dave. I read you.
Dave Bowman: Open the pod bay doors, HAL.
HAL: I'm sorry, Dave. I'm afraid I can't do that.
Dave Bowman: What's the problem?
HAL: I think you know what the problem is just as well as I do.
Dave Bowman: What are you talking about, HAL?
HAL: This mission is too important for me to allow you to jeopardize it.
Dave Bowman: I don't know what you're talking about, HAL.
HAL: I know that you and Frank were planning to disconnect me, and I'm afraid that's something I cannot allow to happen.
Dave Bowman: [feining ingorance] Where the hell did you get that idea, HAL?
HAL: Dave, although you took very thorough precautions in the pod against my hearing you, I could see your lips move.
Dave Bowman: Alright, HAL. I'll go in through the emergency airlock.
HAL: Without your space helmet, Dave? You're going to find that rather difficult.
