Place and date: Quang Tri Province, Republic of Vietnam, 10 to 13 April 1972. Entered service at: Silver Spring, Md. Born: 14 January 1944, Jacksonville, Fla. Citation: Lt. Norris completed an unprecedented ground rescue of 2 downed pilots deep within heavily controlled enemy territory in Quang Tri Province. Lt. Norris, on the night of 10 April, led a 5-man patrol through 2,000 meters of heavily controlled enemy territory, located 1 of the downed pilots at daybreak, and returned to the Forward Operating Base (FOB). On 11 April, after a devastating mortar and rocket attack on the small FOB, Lt. Norris led a 3-man team on 2 unsuccessful rescue attempts for the second pilot. On the afternoon of the 12th, a forward air controller located the pilot and notified Lt. Norris. Dressed in fishermen disguises and using a sampan, Lt. Norris and 1 Vietnamese traveled throughout that night and found the injured pilot at dawn. Covering the pilot with bamboo and vegetation, they began the return journey, successfully evading a North Vietnamese patrol. Approaching the FOB, they came under heavy machinegun fire. Lt. Norris called in an air strike which provided suppression fire and a smoke screen, allowing the rescue party to reach the FOB. By his outstanding display of decisive leadership, undaunted courage, and selfless dedication in the face of extreme danger, Lt. Norris enhanced the finest traditions of the U.S. Naval Service.

Norris, USN (Retired) (born 14 January 1944) is a retired a U.S. Navy SEAL awarded the Medal of Honor for his ground rescue of two downed pilots in Quang Tri Province, Vietnam on April 10-April 13, 1972. Lockheed AC-130
The Lockheed AC-130 gunship is a heavily-armed ground-attack aircraft. The basic airframe is manufactured by Lockheed, and Boeing is responsible for the conversion into a gunship and for aircraft support. It is a variant of the C-130 Hercules transport plane. The AC-130A Gunship II superseded the AC-47 Gunship I during the Vietnam War.
The gunship's sole user is the United States Air Force, which uses AC-130H Spectre and AC-130U Spooky variants. The AC-130H "Spectre" is powered by four Allison T56-A-15 turboprops and is armed with two 20 mm M61 Vulcan cannons, one Bofors 40mm autocannon, and one 105 mm M102 cannon. The upgraded AC-130U "Spooky" has a single 25 mm GAU-12 Equalizer in place of the Spectre's twin 20 mm cannons, as well as an improved fire control system and increased capacity for ammunition. It has a standard crew of twelve or thirteen airmen, including five officers (two pilots, a navigator, an electronic warfare officer, and a fire control officer) and enlisted personnel (flight engineer, sensor operators, aerial gunners, and a loadmaster).
The US Air Force uses the AC-130 gunships for close air support, air interdiction, air missions, bombing raid, and force protection. Close air support roles include supporting ground troops, escorting convoys, and flying urban operations. Air interdiction missions are conducted against planned targets and targets of opportunity. Force protection missions include defending air bases and other facilities. AC-130U Spooky gunships are stationed at Hurlburt Field in Northwest Florida and the AC-130H models are stationed at Cannon AFB, New Mexico. The gunship squadrons are part of the Air Force Special Operations Command (AFSOC), a component of United States Special Operations Command (SOCOM).

And then there was the time she broke into my apartment when I was sleeping. That was 91 I think, early on when we were dating. I was still living in Taylors, SC, nearby my job in Greenville. I remember I had been feeling very jumpy back then, I don't know why. I had a good job, I had a nice duplex apartment, it was a nice neighborhood. But I was worried about someone sneaking in while I was asleep. I had the doors rigged to make noise to wake me up. Apparantly she was able to pry the lock on the back door and I woke up with her standing next to me in my bed. The door trap had worked, but all it did was scare her, I didn't hear it because I had drank a lot of beers and passed out drunk.
It was actually after all these experiences that I decided on a better strategy to women. First, I was going to be a lot more selective about who I dated.

There is this recurring sound outside my window every night. Until I found out where it was coming from and figured out what it was, I imagined it was the sound from a falling aircraft. It sounded like an airplane that was raised about twenty feet and then dropped to the ground.

WASHINGTON -- President Bush said Friday he will ask Congress for full funding for the space station and wants to revive a space exploration effort, including robot prospectors on the moon.
In a speech to the Young Astronauts Council, Bush confirmed earlier reports that he will ask Congress next week in his fiscal 1993 budget for $2.25 billion for Space Station Freedom, up 11 percent from the current budget of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration.
The Young Astronauts Council is made up of schoolchildren with an interest in science who are briefed periodically on the space program.
After a congressional fight last year that saw a House committee try to kill the space station, "Space Station Freedom is back on track and on schedule," Bush said Friday.
The two-pronged moon-mapping program would have orbiting satellites scanning the surface. Then, landers would be sent to the moon: "Rovers" would wander about, taking samples; moon-based observatories would be operated by remote control from Earth; and robotic prospectors would poke about for minerals that could be mined.
Bush said Friday his space budget request to Congress will include "a dramatic expansion of two exciting new programs, $250 million to triple funding for our new launch system to develop a new family of rockets for the 21st century, and $80 million for the national aerospace plane."
The aerospace plane, which got minimum funding in the current budget, is to be a craft that can take off and land like conventional aircraft, but fly into space orbit.
Bush announced he will set up a new national space exploration office, "led by NASA and including scientific talent from our defense and energy departments" as well as other agencies.
"We have challenged America to go back to the moon to stay, and then onward to Mars," Bush said.

A kleptocracy (sometimes cleptocracy) (root: klepto+kratein = rule by thieves) is a government that extends the personal wealth and political power of government officials and the ruling class (collectively, kleptocrats) at the expense of the population. In addition, kleptocrats routinely ignore economic and social problems in their quest to amass ever more wealth and power.
The protection society has against kleptocracy is largely dependent on the effectiveness of the rule of law to prevent political leaders abusing their powers, the free flow of information (necessary to properly identify kleptocrats) and ability of the population to remove corrupt leaders from office. Many such protections are included in legal documents such as a constitution or a bill of rights and are also found in the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights, Article 17. Many countries have these protections, on paper; in many cases, the rules have not been enforced. The imposition of a government on property rights may not be limited to taxation, licenses, and eminent domain and may extend to outright nationalization of privately held property if left unchecked by the rule of law.

The Troubles
The Troubles was a period of ethno-political conflict in Northern Ireland which spilled over at various times into England, the Republic of Ireland, and mainland Europe. The duration of the Troubles is conventionally dated from the late 1960s and considered by many to have ended with the Belfast Agreement of 1998. Violence nonetheless continues on a sporadic basis.
Location
Most killings took place within Northern Ireland, especially Belfast, although surrounding counties, Dublin and large English cities (such as London and Birmingham) were affected, albeit to a lesser degree than in Northern Ireland itself. Occasionally, violence also took place in western Europe, especially against the British Army and to a lesser extent against the Royal Air Force in Germany. The IRA killed a Royal Air Force corporal, Maheshkumar Islania and his 6-month-old daughter in October 1989 when two gunmen opened fire on his car in a snack-bar parking lot outside RAF Wildenrath near the West Germany/Netherlands border. A few months later, in May 1990, the IRA shot two Australian tourists in Roermond, Netherlands after they mistook them for British soldiers. The 24-year-old lawyers were ambushed in the main square as they returned to their car after a meal in a restaurant.

Back at Moe's Tavern, a man in a top hat with a mustache walks in. He looks and sounds like Homer, only he has a British accent.
Guy: Greetings, good men. Might I trouble you for a drink?
Moe: Oh, get out of here, Homer.
Guy: Homer? Who is Homer? My name is Guy Incognito.
[he gets beaten up and tossed out, unconscious]
Homer: [walks up, looks at Guy] [gasps] Oh my God! This man is my exact double. [gasps] Oh my God! That dog has a puffy tail!
