Learning rate

Main article: Learning rate

The learning rate defines the size of the corrective steps that the model takes to adjust for errors in each observation. A high learning rate shortens the training time

My guess is retardoid's such as Sam Altman are Useful Fools for an actual *real* artificial-intelligence

Not that gimmicky ridiculous "A.I." that chumps such as Sam Altman and Elon Musk are peddling, of which greedy-corporations such as Microsoft insist on getting their own piece of the pie from you gullible rubes.

"Contact" by Carl Sagan, author

excerpts, Chapter 10

“Now that’s an interesting one,” said Joss. “You’re talking, of course, about DNA. But you know the physician’s staff, the symbol of medicine? Army doctors wear it on their lapels. It’s called the caduceus. Shows two serpents intertwined. It’s a perfect double helix. From ancient times that’s been the symbol of preserving life. Isn’t this exactly the kind of connection you’re suggesting?”

“Well, I thought it’s a spiral, not a helix. But if there are enough symbols and enough prophecies and enough myth and folklore, eventually a few of them are going to fit some current scientific understanding purely by accident. But I can’t be sure. Maybe you’re right. Maybe the caduceus is a message from God. Of course, it’s not a Christian symbol, or a symbol of any of the major religions today. I don’t suppose you’d want to argue that the gods talked only to the ancient Greeks. what I’m saying is, if God wanted to send us a message, and ancient writings were the only way he could think of doing it, he could have done a better job. And he hardly had to confine himself to writings. Why isn’t there a monster crucifix orbiting the Earth? Why isn’t the surface of the Moon covered with the Ten Commandments? Why should God be so clear in the Bible and so obscure in the world?”

Joss had apparently been ready to reply a few sentences back, a look of genuine pleasure unexpectedly on his face, but Ellie’s rush of words was gathering momentum, and perhaps he felt it impolite to interrupt.

“Also, why would you think that God has abandoned us? He used to chat with patriarchs and prophets every second Tuesday, you believe. He’s omnipotent, you say, and omniscient. So it’s no particular effort for him to remind us directly, unambiguously, of his wishes at least a few times in every generation. So how come, fellas? Why don’t we see him with crystal clarity?”

“We do.” Rankin put enormous feeling in this phrase. “He is all around us. Our prayers are answered. Tens of millions of people in this country have been born again and have witnessed God’s glorious grace. the Bible speaks to us as clearly in this day as it did in the time of Moses and Jesus.”

“Oh, come off it. You know what I mean. Where are the burning bushes, the pillars of fire, the great voice that says ‘I am that I am’ booming down at us out of the sky? Why should God manifest himself in such subtle and debatable ways when he can make his presence completely unambiguous?”

“But a voice from the sky is just what you found.”

Now, you dullard dim-wits out there, this means NOTHING to *you*. Means nothing to you because there is NOTHING being offered to you. All you have is superstition and your ridiculous wishful thinking.

Bicameral mentality

From Wikipedia

Bicameral mentality is a hypothesis introduced by Julian Jaynes who argued human ancestors as late as the ancient Greeks did not consider emotions and desires as stemming from their own minds but as the consequences of actions of gods external to themselves. The theory posits that the human mind once operated in a state in which cognitive functions were divided between one part of the brain which appears to be "speaking", and a second part which listens and obeys—a bicameral mind, and that the breakdown of this division gave rise to consciousness in humans.

Jaynes uses "bicameral" (two chambers) to describe a mental state in which the experiences and memories of the right hemisphere of the brain are transmitted to the left hemisphere via auditory hallucinations. The metaphor is based on the idea of lateralization of brain function although each half of a normal human brain is constantly communicating with the other through the corpus callosum.

The gods are now what we call hallucinations. Usually they are only seen and heard by the particular heroes they are speaking to.

Trying to recall what got me on this track I've been on today.

I am struck by the profound sense of connection to the series finale of "Star Trek: Picard"

And thinking of the notion, ridiculous to you, of E.T. mind-controlling all *you* as He did 4000 years ago to cavemen

That was it.

That article I read earlier today. It's dated 04/19/2023.

"Scientists identify mind-body nexus in human brain"

That led me, indirectly, to Julian Jaynes and his fascinating research about the bicameral brain of the early humans, from that ancient time when those cavemen invented your god(s), which are your superstitions.

BACKSTORY: "Fast Times at Ridgemont High"

from my private journal, as me, Kerry Burgess, typed after being released from the USA Veterans Affairs psychiatric hospital enduring many months sitting in a grungy two-computer room in a homeless shelter on the waterfront in downtown Seattle:

10/11/2006 5:32 PM

As I was writing about my memories of Phoebe at Camp Couchdale, I was thinking about this scene from "2001." I was writing a while back about how she told me to never forget that dance where we first met.

by me, Kerry Burgess: Journal May 27, 2006

They lined up all the girls at the start of the dance and told me to pick who I wanted to dance with. I still remember thinking about how she just seemed the right choice.

But first - up next - is "The Message"

That is today's debut of episode 2 season 3 of "Invasion", the streaming-video series on AppleTV+, through Amazon Prime Video channels at extra fee

Do not know the slightest yet about the content of this new episode today, which I begin viewing for the first time ever in a few minutes. I have not even read the episode summary or viewed any previews. All I know about it so far is the title

I mention it because, as always, everything I view or read becomes more work for me, so certainly I will discover something today that seems compelling to me
