Only today did I notice it again and only today am I seeing it for the very first time ever (that I recall, and I have excellent powers of recall), paused now at the 22-minute point to begin working on this note, an update to the note I made last year about it
The video is really crappy, even for early-1990s standards
The production is crappy. The actors are crappy. The acting is crappy.
Why the hell did they hire Richard Thomas for the leading role on the ground. His counterpart in hackneyed-acting drama is James Coburn and he just really, equally ruins this video.
Charlton Heston has never been a good actor and he's just an embarrassment in his attempt at acting.
They're all awkward and cringy.
The title is available with Amazon Prime Video and I am glad I did not pay additional fee to watch it, crappy as it is

See, that couldn't be right.
The day 24 March 1990 was a Saturday.
I guess I wrote this, probably or possibly in May 2006, while under the psychiatrist dope the Seattle Veteran's Affairs had me on for all those months back then.
Or some other reason. My memory now is based on some kind of context that I think is clouding my accurate memory of the past.
Still not really sure what it means.
However, a closer examination today of the records the United States National Archives sent me three years ago accurately explains where I got that date from.
And that is consistent with what I remember writing other times.
So that would mean my first day was actually the 26th.
I might have tried to clarify that detail here somewhere in the massive volume of this blog but I cannot recall if I worked on clearing up this detail before now because I do know I caught that discrepancy a long time ago when I noted that 23 March 1990 was Friday and the 24th was Saturday and that made no sense. I'm very confident the day I drove up there to Greenville the first time and met with Dan Benbow, formerly of Broken Bow Oklahoma, was Thursday the 22rd. Friday the 23rd would have been my final day and I cannot recall the uniform I was wearing but I clearly recall driving over that overpass leaving the base in my rental car and I flung my uniform white hat out the window as I crossed over the overpass.

A few minutes ago I started thinking that maybe I started at Princeton University in 1972. I would have been 13 at the time as Thomas Ray. I remember that Kerry Burgess started first grade in 1972. But then I decided that I probably started Princeton earlier than 1972 and maybe 1972 was the year I completed my first major degree. Or 1972 doesn’t really mean anything in particular to Thomas Ray; rather it is there for continuity sake for the life of Kerry Burgess.

I saw myself going through an induction process in the United States Marine Corps and I woke up understanding that I was dreaming of my actual experience in 1990. I saw a document that indicated I was being inducted to the United States Marine Corps with the officer grade of Chief Warrant Officer 2. I saw in the dream another document associated with my induction and that document indicated I had been assigned the informal name "Salesman."

You know what is my first real memory of Ashdown in 1990?
The way I remember it now and that I think I have written about it before is that I traveled back to Ashdown to visit during Memorial Day 1990. The way I remember it my official discharge from the US Navy was 14 May 1990. I left the Navy earlier than that though because I had a lot of leave time saved up and I took all my leave days so that I was still in the Navy but was on separation leave.
As for Memorial Day 1990 the interesting part is about the tie I was wearing.
I was flying a commercial flight from Greenville South Carolina into Texarkana and I was still wearing the suit and tie I had worn in to work where my employer had an office for us in the First Federal bank in downtown Greenville. I can still visualize my apartment nearby when I was there that earlier morning.
I was there in the First Federal building in my employers office and I was working on repairing a computer terminal the bank tellers used and I had leaned over and my tie got caught in the cooling fan of that computer logic unit.
The fan wasn’t strong enough to cause me any harm but it did leave a scuff mark on that burgundy paisley-pattern tie I was wearing and I remember that because I was leaving straight there for the airport.
Every time I have watched that premiere episode of the 2004 television series “Lost” and there is the chaotic scene of the crash on the beach and the one survivor gets sucked into the jet engine that is part of the wreckage I think of that day just before Memorial Day 1990 when my tie got caught in that computer cooling fan and of how the blades left a scuff mark on my necktie.
I think about this now and I just want to scream because there is something locked away in my mind that just will not surface to conscious awareness.

In 1953, Nash is invited to the Pentagon to decipher encrypted enemy telecommunications. Bored with his work at MIT, he is recruited by the mysterious William Parcher of the United States Department of Defense with a classified assignment: to identify hidden patterns in magazines and newspapers to thwart a Soviet plot. He is given an implanted diode that gives him a passcode to access a drop spot at a mansion. Nash becomes increasingly obsessive with his work and grows paranoid.
Nash falls in love with a student, Alicia Larde, and they eventually marry. After a shootout between Parcher and Soviet agents, Nash tries to quit his assignment but is forced to continue.
