Rebellion is a violent uprising against one's government. A rebel is a person who engages in a rebellion. A rebel group is a consciously coordinated group that seeks to gain political control over an entire state or a portion of a state.
An insurrection is an armed rebellion.
A revolt is a rebellion with an aim to replace a government, authority figure, law, or policy.
If a government does not recognize rebels as belligerents then they are insurgents and the revolt is an insurgency. In a larger conflict the rebels may be recognized as belligerents without their government being recognized by the established government, in which case the conflict becomes a civil war.

Identification refers to the automatic, subconscious psychological process in which an individual becomes like or closely associates themselves with another person by adopting one or more of the others' perceived personality traits, physical attributes, or some other aspect of their identity. The concept of identification was founded by psychoanalyst Sigmund Freud in the 1920’s, and has since been expanded on and applied in psychology, social studies, media studies, and literary and film criticism. In literature, identification most often refers to the audience identifying with a fictional character, however it can also be employed as a narrative device whereby one character identifies with another character within the text itself.

REPORT ON SPYING RELEASED BY C.I.A.

WASHINGTON, July 8—The Central Intelligence Agency made a major build-up of its domestic intelligence operation during the Administration of President Nixon, according to documents released by the C.I.A. for the first time tonight.
In an unexpected disclosure, the C.I.A. made public a report that its director, William E. Colby, made to President Ford last Dec. 24. This report is a portion of an internal analysis of the agency's involvement in illegal domestic intelligence operations and other wrongdoing compiled at the request of Mr. Colby's predecessor, James R. Schlesinger, in May, 1973. Mr. Schlesinger is now the Secretary of Defense.

According to these newly released documents, two Congressional figures, Senator Stuart Symington, Democrat of Mis souri, and Representative Lucien N. Nedzi, Democrat of Michigan, were briefed on the details more than two years ago.
This new material contained several disclosures:
According to a memorandum dated June 1, 1972, the major increase in the staff and facilities of the Special Operations Group came after Mr. Nixon had taken office on Jan. 20, 1969. The unit was the core of a domestic C.I.A. intelligence operation that has come under criticism for violating the agency's legal charter, which forbids the C.I.A. to engage in spyping within the United States.
This memorandum revealed that the major formal strength of the unit was provided in mid-1969, when 36 positions were authorized, and increased in the spring of 1971, when another 18 positions were authorized. Although those operations, code-named CHAOS within the C.I.A., were begun under President Lyndon B. Johnson in 1967, this memorandum indicates that they gained their breadth under President Nixon. Before that the operation had two full-time professions staff members.
The documents disclosed that the C.I.A. recruited “paid informants” among construction crews working on its headquarters in 1960 and 1961 in order to prevent foreign intelligence services from planting secret electronic listening devices.
The documents also revealed a memorandum dated Aug. 15, 1967, in which the head of covert operations for C.I.A. at the time, Thomas H. Karamessines, suggested to C.I.A. officials that Harry Rositzke and Richard Ober, head what later became known as CHAOS. One or both of them had long been rumored to have 10 the super-secret domestic Operations.
Rockefeller Report
The half-inch-thick release Came more than a month after tie publication of a report on domestic activities prepared by an eight-man Presidential commission headed by Vice President Rockefellet. Though the report shows no substantive new areas not mentioned in the Rockefeller commission report, it provides more insight into the internal moves at C.I.A.
It reports, for instance, a series of memorandums issued by Mr. Colby in 1973 aimed at halting unacceptable operations that he had discovered from reading the full internal report prepared under Mr. Schlesinger's order. He ordered, for instance, that the agency stop beaking into premises, that it halt drug testing on Americans and that it cease several electronic and surveillance programs.
The documents include a lettei from Mr. Colby to President Ford dated Dec. 24, 1974, in which the Director of Central Intelligence said the agency had “inserted” spies into the American antiwar movement and developed 9,944 “counterintelligence” files on American citizens.
“As I stated to you on the telephone, Mr. President, you have my full assurance that the agency is not conducting activities comparable to those alleged in The New York Times article,” the letter said.
‘Even in the past, I believe the agency essentially conformed to its’ mission of foreign intelligence. There were occasions over the years in which improper actions were taken as noted above [in his letter], but I belive these were few, were quite exceptional to the thrust of the agency's activities, and have been fully terminated.”
This letter came two days after an article in The New Yotk Times on Dec. 22, 1974, quoted intelligence sources as saying that the C.I.A. conducted a massive domestic intelligence and surveillance operation.
Increased Scope
In the ensuing Rockefeller investigation, in the early indications from Congressional investigations and in the documents released tonight, the scope of the C.I.A.'s questionable activities has grown.
For instance, the new documents rioted that the C.I.A. had files on 14 past and present members of Congress, and the report restated that the agency had conducted burglaries and wiretappings.
In the orders Mr. Colby issued in 1973, it is clear that he was concerned with stopping infiltration of other Government agencies by the C.I.A., long-range letter opening and wiretapping projects and such telephone tappings as those conducted against news reporters in 1963 and physical surveillance of newsmen in 1971 and 1972.
Tonight's release came as a surprise in the continuing flow of information about the. United States intelligence operations.
According to a White House sopkesman, Mr. Colby received Mr. Ford's permission to release the documents some three weeks ago. But the White House said it was unaware that he had chosen to release them today.
A C.I.A. spokesman said the technical difficulties of reprinting large numbers of documents resulted in its reaching the news media in mid-evening.
The documents contained a, series of “deletions,” which, the C.I.A. noted in a statement, were made to permit “unclassified” portions to be made public.
The documents did not mention C.I.A. involvement in political assassinations or plots to kill foreign leaders. However, authoritative sources have said that the original reports prepared for Mr. Schlesinger contained material on this subject This material was given to the Rockefeller commission, to the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence and the President Ford, but has not yet been made public.

Suddenly, the lights began to go off. One of the pilots mused, "I think they know we are here." Thirty seconds prior, the Apache crews turned on their ranging lasers. At exactly 2:37:50 AM, White Team Apache pilot 2d Lt. Tom Drew keyed his radio and broadcast, "Party in ten." Precisely ten seconds later all crews began firing their Hellfire missiles. Twenty seconds later, the deadly weapons began to detonate against the structures. The generators were hit first, then the command bunkers, and finally, the radar dishes themselves. Several Iraqi enemy soldiers died in the barrage.
Once all the Hellfires had been expended, the helicopters flew toward the sites and ripple-fired their rockets. Two thousand meters from the sites, they opened up with their 30 mm chain guns and riddled what remained of the compounds with every bullet they had. Four minutes after it started, it was over. The Apaches had expended twenty-seven Hellfire missiles, 100 Hydra-70 rockets, and 4,000 rounds of 30 mm cannon fire. They turned south, rejoined with the Pave Lows, and headed home. En route, Captain Martin's crew observed what appeared to be the launch of two SA-7 missiles. They utilized their on-board defensive systems and some aggressive maneuvering to escape the missiles.

but I think what this all represents is me flying into Iraq, running out of fuel because I engaged enemy fighters, and then having to land and find fuel. I also found myself reading that book by Claire and having a hard time to believe we didn't get swarmed by enemy fighters.

F-14 CREW EJECTS DURING CARRIER LAUNCH

The two-man crew of an F-14 Tomcat from a Oceana Naval Air Station squadron was forced to eject Monday night on takeoff from the Florida-based carrier USS Forrestal, Navy officials said.
The pilot and radar intercept officer, both assigned to Fighter Squadron 31 at Oceana, received minor injuries after parachuting down to the carrier, Navy officials said.
The men decided to eject when it looked like the jet was not going to be able to get up enough speed for takeoff and was headed instead over the side of the carrier, the Navy said.
The jet came to rest near the edge of the flight deck. Although the incident was under investigation, Navy officials said the jet apparently had become separated from the catapult during launch, the Navy said.
After ejecting, the pilot landed on the flight deck, suffering bruises and scrapes and possibly a sprained ankle, officials said.
The radar intercept officer was rescued from his parachute that snagged on the ship's superstructure, or island, above the flight deck. He received minor scrapes, Navy officials said.
Both men, whose names were not available late Tuesday, were treated by medical personnel aboard the carrier.
The Forrestal, based in Mayport, was conducting night training operations off the coast of Florida.

Ah.... a cookbook. If that was me that was stuck in the aircraft carrier's superstructure after ejecting from a failed launch of my F-14 Tomcat, I created an artificial and symbolic memory of me sitting underneath the ships radar while reading a book. I almost got cooked by that radar so I symbolized that with me sitting under it reading a book to create a reference to a cookbook. I have other vague memories, artificial or real, I'm not certain, that support this notion.

Broken Launch Bar Linkage
The USS Forrestal (CV-59) was on its last operational cruise in the Med in 1990. We were conducting night flight ops off the coast of Turkey in support of Operation Provide Comfort. I had just shutdown my aircraft and was walking across the flight deck when the sound of snapping metal amidst a Tomcat launch off the port waist cat caught my attention. I turned to see the F-14 sliding sideways towards the edge of the flight deck. Apparently a component of the launch bar had snapped midway through the catapult stroke sequence, giving the Tomcat only a gentle push (approx. 20-30 knots) instead of the huge kick in the butt required to get the aircraft up to flying speed. The pilot had immediately realized something was wrong, and in a split second reacted to attempt to hit the brakes and stop prior to falling off the edge into the ocean 80 feet below. As they approached the edge, a tire blew sending the F-14 sliding sideways, and the pilot judged they wouldn't stop in time and initiated ejection. As the pilot and RIO rode the seat rails up into the night, one of the F-14s main landing gear jumped the deck edge rail but miraculously stuck just over the edge, and the aircraft remained perched precariously partially over the deck edge. The RIO was soon sighted landing further aft on the flight deck, and although he received some bumps, bruises and scrapes from his ejection and rough landing on the flight deck, he was was happy to walk away from it with a good story to tell that night over midrats. Meanwhile, a full scale search was underway for the pilot. The airborne SAR helicopter had witnessed the ejection and was on the scene so rapidly that the image of the RIO floating down in his parachute canopy nearly filled their windscreen as they whipped across the fantail. They quickly set up for an approach to the datum, and commenced a hover search. Flight operations were suspended and all airborne aircraft were given instructions to hold overhead (or expeditiously recovered if low on fuel). Fifteen minutes later there was still no sign of the pilot. As the search proceeded with additional helicopters and ships in the area, the flight deck began to quiet down. An alert deck hand thought he heard a faint cry for help, but didn't see anything over the deck edge. The sound of yelling for help persisted, and suddenly the deck hand looked up, and with the aid of his flashlight, was able to make out the shape of the pilot hanging from his parachute 100 feet above him in the radio antennaes and masts at the top of the carrier's superstructure. Although the recovery of the pilot took an additional half hour, he was recovered uninjured.

A Naval Flight Officer (NFO) is an aeronautically designated commissioned officer in the United States Navy or United States Marine Corps that specializes in airborne weapons and sensor systems. NFOs are not pilots (Naval Aviators) per se, but they may perform many "co-pilot" functions, depending on the type of aircraft.
Similarly, Marine Corps NFOs are considered also eligible for command at sea and ashore within Marine Aviation, and are also eligible to hold senior general officer positions, such as command of Marine Aircraft Wings, Joint Task Forces, Marine Expeditionary Forces, Marine Corps component commands and unified combatant commands.
Naval Aviator vs Naval Flight Officer
Naval Flight Officers operate some of the advanced systems on board most multi-crew naval aircraft, and some may also act as the overall tactical mission commanders of single or multiple aircraft assets during a given mission. NFOs are not formally trained to pilot the aircraft, although they do train in some dual-control aircraft and are given the opportunity to practice basic airmanship techniques. Some current and recently retired naval aircraft with side-by-side seating are also authorized to operate under dual-piloted weather minimums with one pilot and one NFO. However, in the unlikely event that the pilot of a single piloted naval aircraft becomes incapacitated, the crew would likely eject or bail out, if possible, as NFOs are not normally qualified to land the aircraft, especially in the carrier-based shipboard environment.
