Release Date: 1 June 1984 (USA)

Plot Outline: Admiral Kirk and his bridge crew risk their careers stealing the decommissioned Enterprise to return to the restricted Genesis planet to recover Spock's body.

Assuming I created this artistic device and that I wanted to associate my wife with this other important event in my life, I would have made the following calculation from the known dates of 7/16/1963 and 4/10/1972:

From 7/16/1963 to 4/10/1972 is: 3191 days

3191 divided by 0.3459 equals 9225 days

From 3/3/1959 to 6/4/1984 is 9225 days and 6/4/1984 was a Monday. Since movies in the U.S. usually premier nation-wide on Fridays, I went with Friday, 6/1/1984, which was 3 days earlier, for the premier of "Star Trek III: The Search for Spock."

Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home (1986)

Release Date: 26 November 1986 (USA)

This movie opens with a guy digging holes in a desert and I think it basically reflects my escape across the desert in 1986 and 1987. The movie was released, I assume, to create a 3-5-9 connection to my escape across Africa. The premiere date was on a Friday, as are most movies in the U.S., and the next Monday was 3 years, 59 days, after I escaped into the desert from being a Prisoner of War in Libya. I completed that escape on 5/13/1987.

The actress who portrays "Antonia" was 15.93 years old on 7/16/1970. The reason for that detail, I believe, is because Phoebe and I were arranged to be married, possibly before I was born, and we had some kind of ceremony in 1970 to represent that arranged marriage. The next step in that arrangement was for when she turned 16 and to see if she wanted to continue with the arrangement, or something like that.

The actor who portrays the Midshipman who is killed in "Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan" was 3 years, 4.59 months, younger than me. I assume this also reflects that I was almost killed on that first flight of the space shuttle, where I would have still been a U.S. Navy Midshipman at the time. That name Preston also means something I can't completely remember. In my artificial and symbolic memory, I had a friend named Preston Lee. He was a U.S. Navy TM3, formerly of the USS Kitty Hawk CV-63, and he was attending Basic Electronics and Electricity School with me at the U.S. Navy base in Orlando, Florida, in early 1986.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shout_%28Devo_album%29

Released October 9, 1984

Shout is a 1984 album by the New Wave rock band Devo. It was their 6th and final album for Warner Bros. Records. Keeping with the synth-pop sound of their last few records, Shout sounds very much of its time. Despite the popularity of synth-pop in 1984, the album was a critical and commercial failure, and ultimately led to Warner Bros. Records dropping the band. Following its release, the band went on hiatus for four years.

One of Shout's best-known tracks is "Are U Experienced?", a Jimi Hendrix cover that carried on the Devo tradition of 'mutating' famous songs which began with 1978's "(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction". Ironically, the cover was marginally more accessible and danceable than the heavily experimental Hendrix track, perhaps harkening to the idea of "de-evolution" through its return to a more conventional sound. Many believe this to be a smart move on the band's part considering the trouble with Warner Bros. Records at the time ("Are You Experienced?" being a 'sacred cow' of the WB catalog). As well as that Hendrix song, the chorus melody of Hendrix's "Third Stone from the Sun" is transformed into a guitar solo partway through the piece. The track "The 4th Dimension" incorporates the guitar hook from The Beatles' song "Day Tripper".

Knights Templar Seal

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Knights_Templar_Seal

The Master of the Knights Templar's great seal was double-sided and showed the picture of The Dome of the Rock (some opinions are that the picture represents a circular dome of the Church of the Holy Sepulchre) on one side and the Order's symbol of two knights on one horse on the other side. There was also a smaller, single-sided seal, which showed the Dome of the Rock (or the circular dome of the Holy Sepulchre). Every Grand Master seal shares distinctive characteristics. In order to avoid misuse, special measures were taken regarding the seals. They were kept in a locked compartment which required three keys to open. The Grand Master himself kept one of these keys, and two of his high officials held the others. The forgery of the seals was a very difficult process because each seal was unique and hand made.

President Ford presented 4 Medals of Honor on 3/4/1976. One was Admiral Stockdale. Another was Thomas R. Norris. The third one was Lance Sijan. This represents something of a death march that started for me after I left Mars as I was heading to the Saturn moon Phoebe for a landing before I intercepted the comet on 7/2/1976. I hit some kind of meteor storm that caused a lot of damage to my Project Orion space ship and I wouldn't have enough oxygen to return to Earth if I continued on my mission as planned. I made the choice to continue to the comet instead of returning to Earth for repairs, which turned out to be the best decision any Earthling has probably ever made.

176 - Remarks on Awarding the Congressional Medal of Honor to Four Members of the Armed Forces.

March 4th, 1976

We are gathered here today to honor four Americans for exceptional military gallantry in the service of our Nation. All four of these men distinguished themselves above and beyond the call of duty. I deeply regret that one of the awards, to the late Captain Lance P. Sijan, of the United States Air Force, is posthumous. The other three, Rear Admiral James P. Stockdale, United States Navy; Colonel George E. Day, United States Air Force; and Lieutenant Thomas R. Norris, United States Naval Reserve, are here with us today.

Wish You Were Here is a concept album by Pink Floyd. Recorded at Abbey Road Studios between January and July, 1975 and released on September 15, 1975 (see 1975 in music), the album would later be regarded as one of Pink Floyd's greatest albums. Its lyrics, composed by Roger Waters and concerning the music industry, question the market-oriented record companies' lack of understanding and interest for musicians. The album also pays tribute to Syd Barrett, Pink Floyd's former guitarist and chief songwriter, especially "Shine On You Crazy Diamond", and the title track itself.

As I was watching this movie on television recently, I was thinking of how similar "Dr. Floyd's" wife resembled Phoebe. NASA to search attics for missing moon-walk tapes

By Seth Borenstein
The Associated Press

WASHINGTON — Red-faced because the best pictures of its glory days are missing, NASA said Tuesday it was launching an official search for more than 13,000 original tapes of the historic Apollo moon missions.

What's missing are the never-before-broadcast, clear, original videos — not the grainy, converted pictures the world watched on television more than three decades ago.

The tapes aren't lost, says the NASA official in charge of the search. But he doesn't know where they are.

Most likely they are somewhere at the sprawling Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Md., which misplaced the tapes originally. But they also could be stored somewhere else.

The original video, taken directly from the moon and beamed to deep-space network observatories in Australia, has never been seen by the general public or even NASA officials.

The Wall is an album by the English rock band Pink Floyd, released in 1979. Hailed by critics and fans as one of Pink Floyd's best albums, the album is widely regarded as a rock classic, and its morbid anthems have inspired many contemporary rock musicians. The album is included in the book 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die.[1]

The Wall was the last Pink Floyd album to feature Richard Wright until his return in 1987. By the time the album was being recorded, Roger Waters had tightened his grip on the band and demanded near-complete artistic control, creating tensions within the band. On January 29th 1999, the RIAA certified The Wall at 23x platinum, denoting shipments of 23 million copies in the United States alone, making it the band's best-selling album there. Internationally, the album has sold an estimated 30 million copies worldwide (60 million discs) which makes it the best-selling multiple-disc album of all-time. The album reached #1 on the Billboard album charts in the U.S. where it stayed for 15 consecutive weeks. The album would remain on the U.S. charts for two years. However, the album peaked at #3 in the band's native UK.

"Another Brick in the Wall (Part 2)" was the band's only number one single from The Wall, reaching #1 in both the UK and the US. Around the world, the album produced a number of hit singles for Pink Floyd, including "Another Brick in the Wall (Part 2)", "Young Lust", "Hey You", "Comfortably Numb" and "Run Like Hell".

Night of the Comet (1984)

Release Date: 16 November 1984 (USA)

In the 1982 "An Officer And A Gentleman," "Paula" observes that "Lynnette" has the timetable down after "Lynnette" reveals something about tracking sailors coming into port for 3 years. She specifically mentions the Lexington. This detail would seem to connect that scene with when I sucessfully diverted the comet in 1976. I arrived at the comet on 7/2/1976 and then it was diverted on 7/4/1976.

The USS Lexington CV-16 was commissioned 33 years, 4.59 months before 7/4/1976, forming a 334-59 clue.

Commissioned: February 17, 1943

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battles_of_Lexington_and_Concord

The Battles of Lexington and Concord were the first military engagements of the American Revolutionary War. They were fought on April 19, 1775, in Middlesex County, Province of Massachusetts Bay, within the towns of Lexington, Concord, Lincoln, Menotomy (Arlington), and Cambridge, near Boston. The battles marked the outbreak of open armed conflict between Great Britain and its thirteen colonies in the mainland of British North America.

The battles, particularly the skirmish at the North Bridge, are known as the "shot heard 'round the world", described in Ralph Waldo Emerson's Concord Hymn. The battle of Lexington lasted just 8 minutes.

Secret Agent Man

You know I live a life of danger
For the fbi
Keeping tabs on our nation
On the land, on the sea, in the sky
But every single night
Before I go to bed
I get down on my knees
And thank god
Im a secret agent man
* secret agent man
Secret agent man
Theyve given me a number
But theyve taken way my name
I got one hell of a job to perform
For the u. s. of a.
Got the responsibility
Of our nations top security
But every night and day
I salute the flag and say
Thank you jesus
Cause im, Im a secret agent man
( * repeat)

You know they got me doin this
Doin that
And a little bit of something else
Fighting cavities of evil
Safe-guarding americas health
But not an afternoon pass
I dont get up off my ass
Thank you god
Cause im, Im a secret agent man
( * repeat 2 times)

The F-22 Raptor is a fifth generation fighter aircraft which utilizes fourth generation Stealth technology.[3] It was originally envisioned as an air superiority fighter for use against the Soviet Air Force, but is equipped for ground attack, electronic warfare and signals intelligence roles as well. Faced with a protracted development period, the prototype aircraft was designated YF-22 and, as F/A-22 during the three years before formally entering United States Air Force service in December 2005 as the F-22A. Lockheed Martin Aeronautics is the prime contractor and is responsible for the majority of the airframe, weapon systems and final assembly of the F-22. Along with Lockheed Martin, partner Boeing Integrated Defense Systems provides the wings, aft fuselage, avionics integration, and all of the pilot and maintenance training systems.

Remarks on Signing a Resolution and a Proclamation Declaring National P.O.W.-M.I.A. Recognition Day, 1981

June 12th, 1981

Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to what I think is a very important and worthwhile little signing ceremony here in the Rose Garden. I am pleased that I'm going to sign a joint resolution and a proclamation designating July 17th, 1981 National P.O.W.-M.I.A. Recognition Day.

The brave men and women who fought for our country should all know that America does remember and is grateful and will always be proud of their courage and honor on the battlefield. And it's fitting that we pay this special tribute to those who so heroically endured the hardships and torture of enemy captivity—unusual in any war in our history, because it was the longest period that American fighting men have ever been held in captivity. Just the thought of the terrible pain that they suffered and endured should be seared in our memories forever. And let us remember, too, that 6 years after American involvement in Vietnam, in the war, we still don't have a full accounting of our missing servicemen from that conflict, an accounting that was guaranteed in the Paris peace accords that brought the fighting there to an end, an agreement which has been violated.

Recently there have been reports that Americans are still being held captive in Indochina. None of these reports, I'm sorry to say, has been verified, but the world should know that this administration continues to attach the highest priority to the problem of those missing in action. We intend to seek the fullest possible account from the governments involved.

I'm grateful that we have with us here today one of America's outstanding heroes from the Vietnam war, one of the former prisoners of war, and now the Senator from Alabama, Jeremiah Denton, accompanied by his lovely wife Jane. July 17th, it is just 16 years—or that will be—to the day that he was shot down over Southeast Asia. Now, lest someone think that there's a little confusion there, he was shot down on July 18th, 1965, but when it was the 18th there, on this side of the dateline it was the 17th. Jeremiah Denton. Who will ever forget on that first night in that first plane that arrived at Clark Field in the Philippines, and he was the first man we saw come down the ramp from the plane, salute our flag, ask God's blessing on America, and then thank us for bringing them home.

They're joined here by leaders of the House and Senate, many of their colleagues, Cap Hollenbeck and Bob Dornan, John LeBoutillier and Bill Hendon and John Paul Hammerschmidt and Tom Lantos from the House, and Senators Dennis DeConcini and Bob Dole, along with Senator Jeremiah Denton.

And now, I'm going to have the happy task of signing the proclamation and the bill.

Note: The President spoke at 3:02 p.m. at the signing ceremony in the Rose Garden at the White House.

As enacted, S.J. Res. 50 is Public Law 9713, approved June 12.

Jeremiah Andrew Denton Jr. (born July 15, 1924 in Mobile, Alabama) is a retired U.S. Navy admiral and a former U.S. senator of the Republican party. He spent almost eight years as a prisoner of war in Vietnam and later wrote a book about his experiences.

Military career

Denton attended McGill Institute and Spring Hill College and graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 1946. His 34-year naval career included service on a variety of ships, in many types of aircraft, including airships (blimps). His principal field of endeavor was naval operations. He also served as a test pilot, flight instructor, and squadron commander. In 1957, he was credited with revolutionizing naval strategy and tactics for nuclear war as architect of the "Haystack Concept," while serving on the staff of Commander, South Fleet, as Fleet Air Defense Officer. Denton graduated from the Armed Forces Staff College and the Naval War College, where his thesis on international affairs received top honors by earning the prestigious President's Award. In 1964, he received the degree of Master of Arts in International Affairs from George Washington University.

While serving as Naval aviator during the Vietnam War, Denton was shot down and captured on July 18, 1965. He was held as a prisoner of war for almost eight years, four of which were spent in solitary confinement. Denton is best known for the 1966 North Vietnamese television interview he gave, as a prisoner, in Hanoi. During the interview he blinked his eyes in morse code to spell out the word "torture" to communicate that his captors were torturing him. He was also questioned about his support for the U.S. war in Vietnam, to which he replied: "I don't know what is happening now in Vietnam, because the only news sources I have are Vietnamese. But whatever the position of my government is, I believe in it, I support it, and I will support it as long as I live." For his continuous resistance and leadership, even in the face of torture and inhumane conditions, he would be awarded the Navy Cross.

Finally in 1973, he was released from prison and on stepping off the plane, as a free man back in his home country, he said: "We are honored to have had the opportunity to serve our country under difficult circumstances. We are profoundly grateful to our Commander-in-Chief and to our nation for this day. God bless America."

"The Navy Cross is presented to Jeremiah A. Denton, Rear Admiral, U.S. Navy, for extraordinary heroism while serving as a Prisoner of War in North Vietnam from February 1966 to February 1973. Under constant pressure from North Vietnamese interrogators and guards, Rear Admiral Denton (then Commander) experienced harassment, intimidation and ruthless treatment in their attempt to gain military information and cooperative participation for propaganda purposes. During this prolonged period of physical and mental agony, he heroically resisted cruelties and continued to promulgate resistance policy and detailed instructions. Forced to attend a press conference with a Japanese correspondent, he blinked out a distress message in Morse Code at the television camera and was understood by United States Naval Intelligence. Displaying extraordinary skill, fearless dedication to duty, and resourcefulness, he reflected great credit upon himself, and upheld the highest traditions of the Naval Service and the United States Armed Forces."

POWs will get another homecoming, 30 years later

By Brian Kelly
Herald Writer

OAK HARBOR -- Two words. A snippet of a sentence, a phrase that lifted them higher than the lumbering Air Force C-141 could ever soar.

"Feet wet!" came the call. And in plane after plane, shouts of joy erupted as each "Hanoi Taxi" crossed the coastline of Vietnam.

Thirty years ago today, the first wave of prisoners of war came home from Vietnam. Dubbed "Operation Homecoming," it saw the release of almost 600 of the 801 Americans captured during the war.

Today at Whidbey Island Naval Air Station, the freedom flights will be marked by a symposium and panel discussion hosted by a half-dozen or so Vietnam POWs. It's a hot ticket for people in uniform: Roughly 400 or more sailors and Marines are expected to attend.

Richard "Skip" Brunhaver, the pilot of a Navy A-4 Skyhawk, recalled being on the second flight out of Hanoi on Feb. 12, 1973. He spent 2,729 days, more than seven years, as a prisoner of war, most of them in Hoa Lo prison, better known as the "Hanoi Hilton."

He was 25 when he was captured -- his fighter-bomber went down because of mechanical trouble in August 1965 -- and 33 when he went home as part of Operation Homecoming.

No cheers came from on board when his plane took off from Vietnam, bound for Clark Air Force Base in the Philippines.

"We had developed so much cynicism over such a long period of time, you never knew," Brunhaver recalled. "You thought there might be some trick going on."

Brunhaver, now 62, said the mood changed once the plane crossed the coast.

"When we hit 'feet wet,' we knew it was for real. About that time, your brain clicked over and said it's time to start living again."

DURAN DURAN LYRICS

"Rio"

Moving on the floor now babe you're a bird of paradise
Cherry ice cream smile I suppose it's very nice
With a step to your left and a flick to the right you catch that mirror way out west
You know you're something special and you look like you're the best

Her name is Rio and she dances on the sand
Just like that river twisting through a dusty land
And when she shines she really shows you all she can
Oh Rio, Rio dance across the Rio Grande

I've seen you on the beach and I've seen you on TV
Two of a billion stars it means so much to me
Like a birthday or a pretty view
But then I'm sure that you know it's just for you

Her name is Rio and she dances on the sand
Just like that river twisting through a dusty land
And when she shines she really shows you all she can
Oh Rio, Rio dance across the Rio Grande

Hey now woo look at that did she nearly run you down
At the end of the drive the lawmen arrive
You make me feel alive, alive alive
I'll take my chance cause luck is on my side or something
I know what you're thinking I tell you something I know what you're thinking

Her name is Rio and she dances on the sand
Just like that river twists across a dusty land
And when she shines she really shows you all she can
Oh Rio, Rio dance across the Rio Grand
Her name is Rio she don't need to understand
And I might find her if I'm looking like I can
Oh Rio, Rio hear them shout across the land
From mountains in the north down to the Rio Grande

It's funny - well, not that funny - how people don't start talking something until after they got caught about how they were trying to make a point about something for which they were busted.

I have is that I am pretty certain navy.mil had some photos of a Midshipman flying a fighter jet a long time ago that I noted but that I can't remember when I saw it. I can still visualize that one photo about the Midshipman at the controls of the jet. He might have taken the photo or someone in the backseat made it look like it was from his perspective. They were sitting on the runway about to take off.

This photo shows the Midshipman Lt.j.g., according to the chart I found. I haven't found a Midshipman Ensign, but I would assume that the Midshipman Ensign has the same stripe as the Midshipman Lt.j.g. and the j.g. is definitely more narrow that the standard U.S. Navy Ensign shoulderboards.

Bono

That license plate from the car Forest Whitaker drives in the 1982 "Fast Times At Ridgemont High" not only has what appears to be a 1793 on the end of the sequence, but that could also be a clue about Princeton University. I have also noted a similar color scheme with certain F-14 Tomcat squadrons. I think this represents that I was flying secretly with the U.S. Navy Blue Angels while a U.S. Naval Academy midshipman, though. I have artificial and symbolic memories that suggest the Superintendant Waller of the Academy either did or did not want me to fly with the Blue Angels while I was a Midshipman. The U.S. Navy Flight Demonstration Team was flying the A-4 Skyhawk back at that time and were painted blue with yellow highlights. The U.S. Navy jets are normally painted with a gray color. Whitaker's character also wore a 33 on his football jersey.

I have also been thinking this is a photo with me in. I think I am the person wearing the blue flight suit in the image below, which is from the larger image of the Pegasus rocket on the wiki site. The hair style looks familiar, but then, I really do not know what I would have looked like before 1998. I can only assume I had a similar appearance. I could have had red hair until I was 20 years old, for all I know.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pegasus_rocket

The Pegasus rocket is a winged space booster developed by Orbital Sciences Corporation (Orbital). Three main stages, filled with solid propellant, provide most thrust. The vehicle is launched from another aircraft at approximately 40,000 feet (12,000 m). The vehicle is capable of placing small payloads into low altitude orbits; launch is approximately US$30 million, depending on additional services.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bono

In 1976, Bono responded to an advertisement by fellow student Larry Mullen, Jr. to form a rock band, as did The Edge (David Howell Evans), Dick Evans, and Adam Clayton. After Dick (nicknamed 'Dik') Evans left the group, the remaining four officially changed the name from "The Hype" to "U2". Initially Bono sang, played guitar, and wrote the band's songs. When The Edge's guitar playing improved, Bono was relegated mostly to the microphone, although he occasionally still plays rhythm guitar and harmonica.

Bono writes the lyrics for almost all U2 songs, often rich in social and political themes.[1] Frequently his lyrics allude to a religious connection or meaning, evident in songs such as "Gloria" from the band's album October and "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For", from the The Joshua Tree album.[5] During the band's early years, Bono was known for his rebellious tone which turned to political anger and rage during the band's War, The Joshua Tree and Rattle and Hum eras.[1] Following the Enniskillen bombing that left 11 dead and 63 injured on 8 November 1987, the Provisional IRA paramilitaries threatened to kidnap Bono. IRA supporters also attacked a vehicle carrying the band members. These acts were in response to his speech condemning the Remembrance Day Bombing during a live performance of Sunday Bloody Sunday.[3] The singer had been advised to cut his on-stage outburst from the Rattle and Hum film, but it was left in.[25]

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Provisional_Irish_Republican_Army

Provisional Irish Republican Army (PIRA; more commonly referred to as the IRA, the Provos, or by some of its supporters as the Army or the 'RA.[2]) is an Irish Republican, left wing[3] paramilitary organisation that, until the Belfast Agreement, sought to end Northern Ireland's status within the United Kingdom and bring about a United Ireland by force of arms and political persuasion. But since the signing of the Belfast Agreement have sought to use purely political ways to achieve it's aims. Since its emergence in 1969, its stated aim has been the overthrow of Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland and their replacement by a sovereign socialist all-island Irish state.[4]

The organisation is classified as an illegal terrorist group in the United Kingdom[5] and as an illegal organisation in the Republic of Ireland.[6] However it is not currently listed as a "Foreign Terrorist Organization" by the United States of America.

Hey Rudy,
I found several credited to you on this website:
http://www.dodmedia.osd.mil/

The one that caught my attention is listed below, along with the caption on the photo. Can you confirm that the cruiser in the background is actually the Jouett?. I magnified the image and I am quite certain the number on the hull is a '28' and not a '29.' There is a little shadow on the second number that indicates to me that it has the closed lower loop of an eight and a nine wouldn't have that shadow. Or more properly, it is the painted on shadow that produces the effect of raised numbers. I was on the Wainwright during the 1988 Persian Gulf deployment as an FC2 and I thought this might be a good artifact to add to the Wainwright Veteran Association.

Hi Kerry, I was out of the office the last three days. Yes, The hull number looks like a "28". I don't remember the USS JOUETT around when I was onboard the Roberts. I spent 18 hours onboard the Samuel B. Roberts photographing the damage and video taping interviews and I was trying to catch a ride on any ship in the area going back to Bahrain. I did hear the The USS Wainwright was in the area but not going my way.

That photo was taken the morning after and I was burning off the last shots in the camera before a helicopter flight out.

Thanks for the info Rudy. Yeah, it was one hell of a ride on the Wainwright after that. We had stopped in Bahrain earlier, but we didn't touch ground again until a liberty port on our way back to Charleston. We stopped at Palma Mallorca and it was quite the extreme, going from Bahrain to the topless beaches of Palma. I was certainly also glad to see Charleston again. I saw your name on the credits for that Clooney vampire flick from a few years ago. Sounds like you've done pretty well for yourself. Going from a photographer to, I assume from your email address, to working for Paramount Studios. That's a pretty good recruiting story for the Navy. Take care, Kerry

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sullivan_brothers

The Sullivan brothers were five siblings who all died during the same incident in World War II, the sinking of the light cruiser USS Juneau (CL-52), the vessel on which they all served.

The Navy named two destroyers The Sullivans to honor the brothers: The Sullivans (DDG-68) and The Sullivans (DD-537). These were the first American navy ships ever to be named after more than one person. The motto for both ships was the very motto of the Sullivan brothers, "We stick together."

Lofton R. Henderson (b. 24 May 1903, Lorain, Ohio – 4 June 1942) was a naval aviator in the United States Marine Corps during World War II. He was the commanding officer of VMSB-241 at the Battle of Midway and is recognized as the first Marine aviator to die during that battle while leading his squadron to attack the Japanese carrier forces.

Navy Cross citation

The Navy Cross is presented to Lofton R. Henderson, Major, U.S. Marine Corps, for extraordinary heroism as Squadron Commander of Marine Scout-Bombing Squadron TWO HUNDRED FORTY-ONE (VMSB- 241), during action against enemy Japanese forces in the Battle of Midway on June 4, 1942. With utter disregard for his own personal safety, Major Henderson, with keen judgment and courageous aggressiveness in the face of strong enemy fighter opposition, led his squadron in an attack which contributed materially to the defeat of the enemy. He was subsequently reported as missing it action. It is believed he gallantly gave up his life in the service of his country.

Royal Gun Salutes mark special royal occasions. On these days salutes are fired from locations in London and other authorised stations in the United Kingdom and the Union flag is hoisted on government buildings.

In London, salutes are fired in Hyde Park and at The Tower of London however, on State Visits, at the State Opening of Parliament and for The Queen's Birthday Parade, Green Park is used instead of Hyde Park.

The number of rounds fired in a Royal Gun Salute depends on the place and occasion. The basic salute is 21 rounds. In Hyde Park and Green Park an extra 20 rounds are added because they are a Royal Park.

Royal Gun Salutes in Hyde Park:

Salutes are fired by the King's Troop Royal Horse Artillery (41 Gun Royal Salute) in Hyde Park at 12.00 noon. They occur on the following Royal anniversaries, however gun salutes are not fired on Sundays, so if the date falls on a Sunday, the salute will take place the next day.

I assume that Lieutenant j.g. is there because he resembled me somewhat, at least from that angle. I guess I wore a moustache back then. In my artificial and symbolic memory, I "remember" that I had a moustache ever since leaving home and going into the Navy. I don't know if that means I did or did not have a moustache in reality. I can "remember" kissing a girlfriend who must not have liked it because she said something about how she was kissing my moustache. I wonder if that is actually some kind of symbolic and artificial memory about how actors and actresses kiss in movies, in that they don't really, at least not usually, kiss each other on the mouth. I have noticed that lately in some navy.mil photos. For some reason, I felt compelled to shave off my moustache after I completed my official United States federal undercover assignment at Microsoft Corporation. I also do not know if that means I usually wear a moustache or do not wear a moustache. I have artificial and symbolic memories of my younger sister telling me one time in 1995, which was the one time I had stopped wearing a moustache since 1984, in the context of my artificial and symbolic memory, that I should grow back my moustache. I also cannot tell from that artificial and symbolic memory whether I normally wear a moustache. I have been thinking I will wait to find out if my wife wants me to wear a moustache when I am allowed to return home from this official United States government assignment of prosecuting the insurrection against the United States of America.

That officer appears to be U.S. Coast Guard, judging by that shield crest on his shoulder boards. The U.S.C.G. has very similar uniforms to the U.S. Navy, except that they use that shield instead of the star for a U.S. Navy line officer. I would graduated from the U.S. Navy Academy a few months earlier and I was probably a Lt. j.g. by that time or would be before the end of the year.

The caption on this next photo says that the officer is a senior Midshipman but I'm not sure about that. At first glance, I would say he has already been commissioned as a U.S. Navy Ensign, judging by the shoulderboards. There is a Midshipman Ensign though, that I found on the internet, that has a similar shoulderboard. The Midshipman also wear shoulders boards, but the non-Brigade Midshipman officer, if I am using the correct terminology, wears a shoulderboard that has a narrower stripe and is easily distinquished from the commissioned officer rank of Ensign. The telling feature may be that the officer appears to have a moustache and I doubt any grade of Midshipman could wear facial hair while attending the U.S. Naval Academy. I also am quite certain that is a photo of me after I had graduated with the Class of 1982 and was commissioned as a U.S. Navy Ensign.

As I look at the image of the Midshipman insignia, it could be that the Midshipman Ensign has the same narrow gold stripe on the shoulderboard as the Midshipman 1/C. The only difference may be that the Midshipman Ensign has the star on the shoulderboard while the Midshipman 1/C has the fouled anchor. If that is all true, then the Midshipman Ensign shoulderboard would be easily distinquishable from the U.S. Navy Ensign shoulderboard and the officer in this photo would obviously be a commissioned officer. And if that is me, I wonder if the date stamp is correct. The Falklands War would have been over by then but I wonder if I was in Lebanon at that time.

And every time I look at that U.S. Navy Ensign standing as he is and how I think he is me, I think I am standing like Jim Morrison of The Doors would pose in a photo. Every time I look at that photo, I think that.

I also think of how my step-sister, Deana, asked me if she could have a football jersey I wore my first year on the De Queen football team. That jersey looked just like those shirts the Plebes are wearing, except that my jersey and the number 62 in the standard location for football jerseys and did not have that U.S. Naval Academy crest on it. I found a photo of Phoebe where she seems to be recording a song and she is also wearing a shirt like those Plebe shirt, except that hers doesn't have the crest on it either, which of course, could have been edited from the photo. I am quite certain that my step-sister, Deana, is a stand-in in my artificial and symbolic memory for Phoebe. It is from when Phoebe and I were friends long before we started dating. The photos of Phoebe from the early 80's resemble Deana. She would be my step-sister, in the context of my artificial and symbolic memory, because the Apollo and Phoebe figures from mythology were brother and sister. I can't "remember" how my step-sister looks though. I just have some kind of unexplained sense that is the reason for that artificial and symbolic memory.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Midshipman

In the United States Navy a Midshipman is for all intents and purposes an officer cadet, although the rank of Midshipman is still an appointed line officer rank in the Navy, similar to the Royal Navy. The rank of Midshipman is utilized by the U.S. Naval Academy, U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, and Naval ROTC. Midshipmen wear uniforms similar to those of U.S. Navy officers, with rank insignia which varies by school year. A Freshman (Midshipman Fourth Class or "Plebe") wears no collar insignia, a Sophomore (Midshipman Third Class or "Youngster") wears a single fouled anchor on the right collar point, a Junior (Midshipman Second Class) fouled anchors on each collar point, and a Senior (Midshipman First Class or "Firstie") wears fouled anchors with perched eagles, or a Midshipman officer rank. Marine Corps options wear enlisted Eagle, Globe, and Anchors in place of the anchors or crows. Shoulder boards have a gold anchor (or Marine Option EGA), and stripes, slanted or horizontal, indicating rank, except for Midshipman officers, whose shoulder boards have a small gold star and horizontal stripes indicating their rank. Midshipman officer ranks are those of the U.S. Navy, but the collar insignia are gold bars, for the ranks of Midshipman Ensign (one bar or stripe) to Midshipman Captain (six bars or stripes) in the Brigade of Midshipmen at the U.S. Naval Academy and in Naval ROTC, with the second highest Midshipman grade being Midshipman Commander, which is the highest rank at the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy. A Naval Academy Midshipman receives about $850 a month for expenses, but it is usually greatly reduced by books, barber, and uniform bills. NROTC Midshipmen receive a $250 to $400 monthly stipend if they are on scholarship or advanced standing after their sophomore year. All NROTC Midshipmen are issued uniforms, typically service dress blues, service khakis, summer whites and dress whites. Some NROTC units may issue camouflauge utility uniforms to the majority of students, but all NROTC Marine Option Midshipmen and Naval Academy Midshipmen receive them.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ensign_%28rank%29

In the United States Navy, the rank of "Ensign" superseded in 1862 that of "Passed Midshipman". Ensign is the most junior commissioned officer in the United States Navy, the United States Coast Guard, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Commissioned Corps and the Public Health Service Commissioned Corps ranking below Lieutenant Junior Grade. It is also equivalent to a Second Lieutenant in the United States Army, United States Marine Corps and the United States Air Force. A typical Ensign is at specialty training for up to two years after receipt of the commission, depending on specialty, and after that is a division officer, leading a group of petty officers and enlisted personnel in a division. Even this billet, however, is for training purposes, as the division officer's duties and responsibilities are specifically designed to familiarize the "Div-O" with the appropriate naval systems, programs, and polices. U.S. Navy and Coast Guard Ensigns wear a collar insignia of a single gold bar, hence their nickname of "butterbars" (shared with Army, Air Force and Marine 2nd Lieutenants).

I wonder if I "remember" this in terms of not being able to make it back home in time for Melissa's wedding because I was getting leave until later that month, which was for my transfer to the USS Taylor. I think it was 12/1/1984 when Bobby and Melissa married and I must have only missed it by a few days. I can still visualize the wedding photo in the paper and thinking I wished I could have been there to be in the photo.

I want to say it was 12/4/1984 when I made it home on leave and then I reported to the Taylor on 12/19/1984. I didn't understand my orders, which indicated that the ship was in Bath, Maine, because the orders indicated the home port was Charleston, so I flew there. I can still "remember" flying in to that old airport. I can "remember" going to the Charleston base to check in and waiting for a while until they told me the ship was in Bath, Maine. My original orders indicated the ship was in Bathe, Maine, and I had no idea what that meant. I can "remember" taking the taxi back to the airport. The taxi driver told me to not forget to give him a tip. A few months later, after the Taylor had moved to Charleston as the home port, I was on liberty and I got in the taxi again with one of the drivers from that first night and I was talking about that mix up.

I don't know if that artificial and symbolic memory means that I did make it to her wedding or I did not make it to her wedding in 1984.

Some other subjects I was thinking about again:

John Tower is 33 years, 5 months, 3 days, older than me, suggesting to me that President Reagan was trying to create a 33-59 connection to me. I assume that Iran-Contra was really about why I was missing and presumed dead and I guess he was taking heat for it. I am quite certain he knew I was still alive though, for certain periods of time, but he couldn't send in any forces to extract me. And when he could, the traitors would sabotage the rescue attempt somehow. It was all part of the effort to pirate my identity. I see signs of it happening still today and it is evidence that Microsoft-Corbis-Al Qaeda has corrupted certain public officials in the United States of America, in support of their insurrection against the United States of America.

John Goodwin Tower (September 29, 1925 – April 5, 1991) was the first Republican United States senator from Texas since Reconstruction. He served from 1961 until his retirement in January 1985, after which time he was the chairman of the Reagan-appointed Tower Commission that investigated the Iran-Contra Affair.

The report was highly critical of the Reagan administration and of the National Security Council's dealings with both Iran and the Nicaraguan Contras.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_Trade_Center_bombing

In the 1993 World Trade Center bombing (February 26, 1993) a car bomb was detonated by Islamic terrorists in the underground parking garage below Tower One of the World Trade Center in New York City. The 1,500-lb (680 kg) urea nitrate-fuel oil device killed six and injured 1,042 people. It was intended to devastate the foundation of the North Tower, causing it to collapse onto its twin.

Agents and bomb technicians of the U.S. Treasury Department's Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF) responded to the scene of the blast. An ATF bomb technician subsequently found the axle in the bomb crater with the VIN of the Ryder truck that was used to contain the explosives. Further investigation by ATF found that the vehicle had been rented by a Palestinian named Mohammad Salameh. Yousef's friends reported the van was stolen in an attempt to slow investigators down.

On March 4, 1993 authorities announced the capture of Salameh. In March 1994, Salameh, Nidal Ayyad, Mahmud Abouhalima and Ahmad Ajaj were each convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment for the World Trade Center bombing.

I pondered over whether STS-26 would point to my experience in Africa because I was 26.95 years old on 2/14/1986, which is the date I recognize as when I was shot down by anti-aircraft fire. I turned 27 when I was a Prisoner of War in Libya, if I have this all figured out correctly. I would have been 28 when I finally got home, having completed my escape on 5/13/1987. It is suspiciously similar to 10 years earlier. I spent my entire 17th year in outer space. I recognize that I spent my entire 27th year missing Africa.

The space shuttle flight STS-26 returned to Earth 3.586 years after my 26th birthday. The following day was 3.589 years after my 26th birthday. If the shuttle flight STS-26 had landed 2 days later, it would have been 3.59 years after my 26th birthday. The time period from my 26th birthday to when STS-26 landed is 1310 days. That landing was only 2 days off from creating a perfect 3-59 clue pointing to me.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/STS-26

Launch: September 29, 1988
Landing: October 3, 1988

STS-26 was a space shuttle mission by NASA using the Discovery. It was the 26th shuttle mission, and the seventh for Discovery. It was the "Return to Flight" mission, being the first mission after the Space Shuttle Challenger disaster. This was the first mission to use the original Space Transportation System numbering system since STS-9, and the first to have all crew members wearing pressure suits for launch and landing since STS-4.

Space Shuttle Discovery lifted off from Pad B, Launch Complex 39, Kennedy Space Center, at 11:37 a.m. EDT on September 29, 1988, 975 days after the Challenger disaster. Launch of America's return-to-flight mission was delayed for 1 hour and 38 minutes because of unseasonable and unusual light winds aloft, and to replace fuses in the cooling systems of two crew members' flight suits. The suits were repaired, and a waiver was issued for the wind conditions after officials determined there was a sufficient safety margin for wind loads on the orbiter wing leading edges. The 26th Shuttle flight was the seventh for Discovery.

The primary payload for the STS-26 mission, a Tracking and Data Relay Satellite (TDRS), was successfully deployed, and 11 scheduled middeck scientific and technological experiments were carried out. The orbiter sustained only minor Thermal Protection System tile damage and the redesigned solid rocket boosters showed no signs of leakage or overheating at any of the joints.

Two minor problems occurred during the flight. After ascent, the Flash Evaporator System for cooling the orbiter iced up and shut down, increasing the crew cabin temperature to approximately 87 degrees Fahrenheit. The problem was resolved on Flight Day 4 and cooler temperatures resulted. A Ku-band antenna for communications was successfully deployed on Flight Day 2, but it failed to respond properly and had to be stowed for the remainder of the mission.

Besides conducting the various experiments, crew members practiced suiting up in new partial-pressure, or launch-and-entry, flight suits, and unstowing and attaching the new crew escape system. On Oct. 2, the day before the mission ended, the five-man crew paid a moving tribute to the 51-L Challenger crew.

Discovery landed on Runway 17, Edwards AFB, CA, at 12:37 p.m. EDT on Oct. 3. Mission duration was 4 days and 1 hour. Capsule Communicator Blaine Hammond Jr. welcomed the crew, saying it was "a great ending to a new beginning."

The space shuttle flight STS-27 launched 33.59 months after 2/14/1986. I recognize the date 2/14/1986 as when I was shot down by anti-aircraft fire somewhere in Africa. I would have turned 27 years old while a Prisoner of War of Libya.

STS-28

Launch: August 8, 1989
Landing: August 13, 1989

Fourth mission dedicated to United States Department of Defense, and first flight of Columbia since mission STS-61-C. Due to the nature of this mission, details are classified. Believed to have deployed two satellites, possibly including one second-generation Satellite Data System relay.

It has been reported that STS-28 also deployed an Advanced KH-11 photo-reconnaissance satellite that used an all-digital imaging system to return pictures. The satellite was placed into a low earth orbit with a high-inclination to the equator to allow coverage of most of the Earth's surface. The KH-11 series is a digital imaging photo- reconnaissance satellite with both visual and infrared sensors.

The pioneering Space Shuttle Orbiter Columbia (OV-102), the first operational reusable spaceship in NASA's fleet, lifted off from Pad 39B, Launch Complex 39, KSC, on 8 August 1989. Liftoff time was 8:37 a.m. EDT. It was the 30th flight of the Space Shuttle, and the first flight of the refurbished Columbia since the 61-C mission on 12 January 1986. Landing was at Edwards AFB, CA, at 9:37 p.m. EDT. The mission lasted for 5 days and 1 hour.

During the flight, the crew shut down a thruster in the reaction control system (RCS) because of indications of a leak. Also, an RCS heater malfunctioned.

Post-flight analysis of STS-28 discovered unusual heating of the thermal protection system (TPS) during re-entry. A detailed report ([1] identified protruding gap filler as the likely cause. This filler material is the same material which was removed during a spacewalk on the STS-114 Return to Flight mission in 2005.

They - whoever 'they' are - were going to let my "Nova" visit me in my cage but I have been thinking that a friend observed that I didn't recognize him and told Phoebe she should wait until I have completely regained conscious awareness of my real identity. If this mental condition was permanent, then we would get back together - for better or worse, as we certainly once promised - but this condition is not permanent so at this point, we might as well wait. I'm not sure how much control I have over the conscious awareness of recognizing my real identity. It seems to come and go. I want her to have as little exposure to the dangerous world I live in of the criminals I prosecute that are actively engaged in an insurrection against the United States of America. Some of the criminals that are actively engaged in insurrection against the United States of America are Microsoft Corporation, Corbis, Rudy Guiliani, Bernard Kerik, Dave Reichert, George W. Bush, Dick Cheney, Robert Mueller, to name a few.

I've been undecided about when the comet would have hit the Earth if I had not successfully diverted it on 7/4/1976. Sometimes I want to say it would have been in 1978 but other times I want to say the comet would have hit the Earth in late 1976. Those comets move pretty fast through the solar system....and that always comes back to mind for some reason. I always come back to that. I don't know why. If it was going to be in 1978, then I assume the comet was going to circle around the Sun and then hit Earth on the second round.

But why do I keep thinking I would have had time to return to Earth for repairs? I can't reconcile that part, but yet, I feel as though I did have time to return before setting out again. The part about it getting closer all that time would still be true, as well as what I wrote about it being impossible to divert if I had not hit it while it was so far out in the solar system. I also keep thinking it was high above the ecliptic.

There is also the fact that there would be a speed limitation on my ship. I could travel very fast, but there would be a maximum to that ship. I could have only traveled a certain distance over a certain period of time with the maximum expenditure of the propulsion system. So if I left the Saturn moon Phoebe on 6/7/1976 and intercepted the comet on 7/2/1976, then it must not have been very far from Saturn, relatively speaking. Especially considering that I made it to Saturn from Earth in 7 months, 5 days. I intercepted the comet precisely 8 months after leaving Earth. Considering that I did not travel in straight lines along the eliptic plane, I must have traveled well over a billion miles to get to Saturn. What that means is that I must have left a tremendous amount of radioactive material in my wake to travel such a long distance in such a short period of time. I guess as long as I did not travel along the elliptic, then that radioactive material would drift harmlessly through the solar system and beyond because it would dissapate before it reached another solar system. But I don't know. It is a factor that would have to be considered before using again that type of propulsion system.

“Tiny Literary Giant”

Diane Sawyer---Good Morning America

On Good Morning America, Diane Sawyer called Adora Svitak a ‘Tiny literary giant.” The title seems astute when you measure her diminutive stature against her accomplishments. Though only four feet tall, seven-year-old Adora has written over 250,000 words this year alone. Try that one on for size.

She may be small, but she has big ideas, and, thanks to writing, she has the means to express them. At an age when most kids are still eking out simple sentences; Adora is staggeringly prolific. Her grasp of grammar, structure and syntax would be considered advanced in most high school classrooms, and her complex and intriguing plots lead readers to wonder what else Adora has up her sleeve. Hearing a seven-year-old casually use words like ‘fatalistic' and ‘immolate' is so startling, it's almost humorous, but once you get used to it, it's easy to slip into a conversation about books or politics and forget that the person you are talking to rides a bike with training wheels and sleeps with a stuffed bear.

Adora started to read chapter books at three-and-a-half. Since her first chapter book (“ Bug Inspector ”), she has never looked back, and tends to gravitate towards challenging materials. Discovering historical fiction cultivated a passion for history. The history book she cherishes the most, The Century for Young People , was a gift from author Peter Jennings, and is inscribed ‘Adora and Adrianna, you are the future!'.

It has been studied and noted that literary prodigy is far less common than aptitude in music or math. We credit Adora's achievement to her immense desire to know and understand history and human nature, and her desire to help others. Despite her rather macabre interest in piracy and despots, her simple and sincere wish is for human beings to live in peace and harmony. She has a huge kind heart and she wants to do many things in her life.

The paparazzi on television also thought this was funny when I spoke out loud about it when I was sitting alone in my room a while back. Can you even begin to understand how crazy it is that people on television know what you say when you sit alone in your apartment? These paparazzi-types are literally Nazi's and those paparazzi-insurrectionists will certainly be arrested on federal charges.

New Blog!

If you have been waiting to hear from me, you will have to wait no longer! Today is my grandma's birthday, so I'm just scraping up a little time to write this. Unfortunately, we were informed of the special occasion just before we were about to eat our dinner, so we were not prepared and all I could give my grandma was an extra-large pinecone. I was not terribly hungry, so I skipped the meal and chose to write this instead. Write back later!

This was a pleasant surprise. I was disappointed though when I first saw them that they were preparing to leave. I think this is the one at the link below. I love these ships. Who needs a parade when you can watch a U.S. Navy warship getting underway? If I could choose any ship I wanted for a personal yacht, it would be a Burke-class destroyer.

[I went down to lunch here in the shelter and I picked up a cup for some milk. I reached around another person and without looking at it, picked up the cup and went to sit down. I turned the cup around and on it was printed "Canberrra World Cruise 1988" with an emblem on it of their travels through the Pacific and approaching the Persian Gulf. I looked it up here on the internet, thinking of how it seemed a Lost-esque messages in a bottle.]

Canberra started her illustrious career in 1961, taking emigrants to a new life in Australia, but as global transportation and travel habits evolved, so did Canberra. In the early 1970's she was almost scrapped. The need for passenger liners diminished as both air travel and oil prices increased. A last minute reprieve saw the ship transferred to the growing cruising market. She never looked back.

In 1982 Canberra became an national heroine as she transported British troops into the war zone of the Falkland Islands. After the conflict, "The Great White Whale" as she had become known, returned home to a fantastic welcome in Southampton. After this, her popularity reached new heights and she became the country's favourite ship.

I have been pondering Greg Kinnear's role as a helicopter pilot in that movie since I first watched the movie. That might have been my actual role in that battle. I might have been flying in the helicopter as co-pilot with Major Crandall.

It seems hard to imagine that I was flying a helicopter for U.S. forces in combat during this battle because I was not even quite 7 years old back on 11/14/1965. But if I have this all figured out correctly, I had won at least 2 gold medals in the Olympics almost 2 years earlier, so I must have had very good reflexes and capabilities. I recognize the date 5/1/1967 as when I first flew a fighter jet by myself and it would seem I could fly helicopters before that.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Ia_Drang

The Battle of Ia Drang was the first major battle of the Vietnam War between the United States Army and the People's Army of Vietnam (PAVN). The two-part battle took place between November 14 and November 18, 1965, at two landing zones (LZ's) northwest of Plei Me in the Central Highlands of South Vietnam. The battle derives its name from the Drang River which runs through the valley northwest of Plei Me, in which the engagement took place. "Ia" means "river" in the local Montagnard language.

Representing the American forces were elements of the 1st Battalion 7th Cavalry, the 2nd Battalion 7th Cavalry, and the 1st Battalion 5th Cavalry of the United States Army. The communist forces included the 33rd, 66th, and 320th Regiments of the People's Army of Vietnam (PAVN), as well National Liberation Front (NLF) of the H15 Battalion.

The battle is the subject of the critically acclaimed book We Were Soldiers Once ... And Young by Harold (Hal) Moore and Joseph L. Galloway. In 2002, screenwriter Randall Wallace depicted the first part of the battle in the film We Were Soldiers starring Mel Gibson.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sullivan_brothers

The Sullivan brothers were five siblings who all died during the same incident in World War II, the sinking of the light cruiser USS Juneau (CL-52), the vessel on which they all served.

The Sullivans were natives of Waterloo, Iowa. They were:

George Thomas Sullivan, 27, Gunner's Mate Second Class
Francis "Frank" Henry Sullivan, 25, Coxswain
Joseph "Joe" Eugene Sullivan, 23, Seaman Second Class
Madison "Matt" Abel Sullivan, 22, Seaman Second Class
Albert "Al" Leo Sullivan, 19, Seaman Second Class

As a direct result of the Sullivans' deaths, the U.S. War Department adopted the Sole Survivor Policy.

The Navy named two destroyers The Sullivans to honor the brothers: The Sullivans (DDG-68) and The Sullivans (DD-537). These were the first American navy ships ever to be named after more than one person. The motto for both ships was the very motto of the Sullivan brothers, "We stick together."
