So my guess now is that they, who ever "they" are, will reply to me personally when they intend to attack again.

My guess is they will send me an email the day before, perhaps, they intend to explode an atomic bomb somewhere in the United States.

You see, they *have* to do that.

That is the whole point of their conspiracy.

For some reason, they believe they have to commit war atrocities and they believe they have to tell me about it. But it's something also about how they have to demonstrate that I am not stopping them. That I can't stop them.

Somehow I am not helping them though. I am not helping them to create the historical record they *need.*

They *need* to create some kind of historical record.

That is the premeditation aspect of their criminal activities, such as the show trial for the willing participant Bradley Manning.

Someday in the future they are planning to point back at all that and use it to subjugate the masses.

I guess I am supposed to be Orwell's "Big Brother." Something like that.

They'll bring you into it as well. Doesn't matter what you want.

And yet, there was no disappointment on his face, Dmitriy Arkadeyevich saw. What the hell was this all about?

"What went wrong in this case?" the boss asked.

Popov shrugged. "They were willing, but they made the mistake of underestimating the skill of the police response. It was quite skillful indeed," he assured his employer. "More so than I expected, but not that great a surprise. Many police agencies across the world have highly trained counterterror groups."

"It was the Austrian police?…"

"So the news media said. I did not press my investigation further. Should I have done so?"

A shake of the head. "No, just idle curiosity on my part."

So, you don't care if these operations succeed or fail, Popov thought. Then, why the hell do you fund them? There was no logic to this. None at all. That would have been Should have been troubling to Popov, yet it was not seriously so. He was becoming rich on these failures. He knew who was funding the operations, and had all the evidence-the cash-he needed to prove it. So, this man could not turn on him. If anything, he must fear his employee, mustn't he? It kept coming down to the same thing, the former KGB officer told himself: What the hell was this all about? Why was he plotting the deaths of people, and asking Popov to-was he doing this to kill off the world's remaining terrorists? Did that make sense? Using Popov as a stalking horse, an agent provocateur, to draw them out and be dealt with by the various countries' highly trained counterterror teams? Dmitriy decided that he'd do a little research on his employer.

When these guys are deployed, sometimes they're leaving the family behind, and we want to make sure they get support.

And then the reason the two older gentlemen are here is, as I was mentioning, barbershops are where a lot of men still come, and we want to work with them—we want to work with barbershops to figure out how we can get better information to fathers about resources that are available to them, where they can find job training programs, they can find support groups for fathers. Because the more information we're getting out there to folks about how they can take responsibility for their kids, make sure that they're in their child's lives, help support their mother even if they're not living with the mother—it makes a huge difference.

It turns out that with the father being involved, the kids are less likely to do drugs, they're less likely to—girls are less likely to have teen pregnancy. And so that message is something that we want to make sure gets out there. And barbershops are a good place to do it, so—because that's where everybody has to come, right?

So the—although I was teasing these guys, cutting their hair wouldn't be that complicated. [Laughter] You just take a—[laughter]. Isn't that right? I was just saying you got to give these guys a discount if they come in for a haircut, because that will only take 5 minutes. [Laughter]

So—all right, guys, thank you. Let—we're going to eat in peace now.

The Vukovar massacre, also known as Vukovar hospital massacre or simply Ovcara, was a war crime that took place between November 20 and 21, 1991 near the city of Vukovar, a mixed Croat/Serb community in northeastern Croatia. A mostly Croatian group of 263 men and 1 woman (including civilians and POWs), of whom 194 have been identified, were murdered by members of the Serb militias following the Yugoslav People's Army (JNA) withdrawal from Ovcara after it brought those patients there from the Vukovar hospital. The murders occurred at the end of the Battle of Vukovar.


Aftermath

Exhumation and remembrance

The Ovcara mass grave lies northeast from the facilities, one kilometer from the Ovcara-Grabovo road. It belongs to the category of the mass graves with the remains of men prisoners of war and civilians executed in the immediate vicinity or at the very place of the grave. Exhumation started on September 1, 1996 and lasted 40 days. 200 bodies were found, of which 194 were identified. Among those executed were Croatian Radio Vukovar journalist Siniša Glavaševic and his technician Branimir Polovina, both civilians.

Pursuant to the Act for Marking Mass Graves from the Croatian War of Independence, passed by the Croatian Parliament in 1996, the Ovcara Monument was the first such monument. Made by Slavomir Drinkovic and uncovered on December 29, 1998, it is a grey obelisk with a sculpted dove and the inscription:

In remembrance of 200 wounded Croatian men defenders and civilians from the Vukovar hospital who were executed in the Greater Serbian aggression against the Republic of Croatia.

There is also a memorial centre near the site of the massacre.

The father of four daughters and a son, Robert Yates Jr. led a relatively ordinary and unremarkable life that was characterized by exemplary military service. Yates grew up on Whidbey Island, Washington, where his mother died while he was still in high school. Records show that he was allegedly repeatedly sexually abused by an older neighbor boy when he was approximately six-years-old, and it isn't clear whether he received psychiatric help or counseling. Following graduation from high school, he enrolled at Walla Walla College but dropped out after only two years. In 1975 he obtained a job as a guard at the Washington State Penitentiary in Walla Walla, where he worked for only six months. The following year he married a young woman named Linda, and later enlisted in the Army where he served his country for 19 years as a helicopter pilot, opting to leave less than a year before becoming eligible for retirement benefits. He flew an OH-58D Kiowa, the type of helicopter that the Army uses for reconnaissance missions. Yates served in Germany, participated in Desert Storm, served in relief efforts after the devastation of Hurricane Andrew, and flew in a UN peacekeeping mission to Somalia. In addition to holding a military pilot's license, Yates was also rated commercially to fly transport planes and helicopters. During his military service, Yates received a number of distinguished awards and medals including three meritorious service medals, three Army commendation medals, three Army achievement medals, and two Armed Forces expeditionary medals. After receiving an honorable discharge, Yates went to work for an aluminum smelter. He also joined the Washington National Guard.

While serving in the National Guard, Yates attained the rank of Chief Warrant Officer 4 and was the only commander the Guard had east of the Cascade Mountains for the OH-58 Kiowa scout helicopter, making him a valuable commodity, so-to-speak. He was characterized by his fellow guardsmen and guardswomen as a true professional who was very proficient in his job. He was also characterized as brave, and it became well known that he scouted hostile territory, often drawing enemy fire, while serving in Somalia.

TACOMA -- Robert Yates Jr. must now fight for his own life.

A Pierce County jury yesterday found Yates -- already one of the state's most prolific serial killers -- guilty of aggravated murder in the deaths of two more women.

On Tuesday, the jury will begin hearing evidence on whether Yates, who is already serving 408 years in prison for killing 13 people, should die for murdering two others, Melinda Mercer and Connie LaFontaine Ellis.


Jurors deliberated for about 5 1/2 hours Wednesday and about two hours yesterday. Finally, after taking an early lunch, they announced that they had reached a verdict.

The jury found there were three aggravating factors in each death that escalated the killings from premeditated first-degree murder to aggravated murder: They said Yates robbed the women; he killed them as part of a common scheme or plan; and he killed them to cover up another crime.

Aggravated murder is the only crime in the state for which prosecutors can seek the death penalty.

Prosecutors say Yates murdered the woman because he loved to kill and enjoyed having sex with their corpses.

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama is celebrating Father's day a few days early by having an impromptu lunch with two members of the military and two local barbers.

Obama is touting a mentoring initiative aimed at reaching out to fathers with positive parenting advice from barbers and barbershops.

He ate a barbecue lunch of ribs, collard greens and corn bread, telling his Capitol Hill lunch guests that "barbershops are a good place" to share advice on taking responsibility for children.

The Health and Human Services initiative is called "Fatherhood Buzz." It reaches out to dads with positive parenting advice through barbershops.

Joint Terrorism Task Force (JTTFs) members, including the state and local members, are responsible for maintaining awareness of possible threats to their respective jurisdictions. To manage and provide accessibility to the significant number of assessments conducted by the JTTF, each task force member has access to Guardian, a web-based counterterrorism incident management application that was launched in July 2004. In Guardian, threat and suspicious activity incidents are entered, assigned, and managed in a paperless environment and allows terrorist threats and suspicious activities to be viewed instantaneously by all system users. The primary purpose of Guardian is to make immediately available threat and suspicious activity information to all system users and to provide all users with the capability to search all incidents for threat trend analysis.
