This has probably always been a truth about people, especially here in the First World.
The problem with fiction and the problem with celebrities associated with fiction
The more glamorous a celebrity as messenger then the less likely the biased masses with see through to the message

(Ragnar Anchorage - Adama and Leoben are in some sort of room with lots of pipes and steam. Leoben is extremely pale and sweaty now.)
Leoben: What is it about this place? What's it doing to me?
Adama: Must be your allergies.
Leoben: I don't have allergies.
Adama: I didn't think so. What you got are silica pathways to the brain, or whatever it is you call that thing you pretend to think with. It's decomposing as we speak.
Leoben: It's the storm, isn't it? It puts out something. Something you discovered has an effect on Cylon technology. That's it, isn't it? And this is a refuge, that's why you put a fleet out here. Last ditch effort to hide from the Cylon attack. Right, well, that's not enough Adama. I've been here for hours. Once they find you, it won't take them that long to destroy you. They'll be in and out before they even get a headache.
Adama: Maybe. (He grabs Leoben, pushes him up against the wall.) But you, you won't find out, because you'll be dead in a few minutes. How does that make you feel? If you can feel.
Leoben: Oh, I can feel more than you could ever conceive of, Adama. But I won't die. When this body dies, my consciousness will be transferred to another one. And when that happens, (he collapses to the ground with a groan) I think I'll tell the others exactly where you are, and I think that they'll come, and they'll kill all of you. And I'll be here watching it happen.
Adama: You know what I think? I think if you could have transferred out of here, you woulda done it long before now. I think the storm's radiation really clogged up your connection. You're not going anywhere. You're stuck in that body.
Leoben: Doesn't matter. Sooner or later, (he smiles) the day comes when you can't hide from the things you've done.

Connectify
From Wikipedia [retrieved for first time by me, Kerry Burgess, on 05/26/2026]
Founded 1 October 2009
Connectify is an American software company that develops networking software for consumers, professionals and companies. Connectify Hotspot is a virtual router and Wi-Fi repeater software for Microsoft Windows. Speedify is a mobile VPN bonding service and app with channel bonding capabilities, that helps combine Wi-Fi, 4G, 5G, Ethernet, Starlink and Satellite connections at the same time. Powered by Speedify delivers embedded solutions for routers, networking appliances, and smart devices.
History
Connectify launched their first product, Connectify Hotspot, in October 2009. It can enable a Windows PC to serve as a router over Ethernet or Wi-Fi. Along with a Windows 10 or higher certified Wi-Fi device it can act as a wireless access point. This enables users to share files, printers, and Internet connections between multiple computing devices without the need for a separate physical access point or router.

From Wikipedia
History
Public access wireless local area networks (LANs) were first proposed by Brett Stewart at the NetWorld+Interop conference in The Moscone Center in San Francisco in August 1993. Stewart did not use the term "hotspot" but referred to publicly accessible wireless LANs.
The first commercial venture to attempt to create a public local area access network was a firm founded in Richardson, Texas known as PLANCOM (Public Local Area Network Communications). The founders of the venture, Mark Goode, Greg Jackson, and Brett Stewart dissolved the firm in 1998, while Goode and Jackson created MobileStar Networks. The firm was one of the first to sign such public access locations as Starbucks, American Airlines, and Hilton Hotels. The company was sold to Deutsche Telecom in 2001, who then converted the name of the firm into "T-Mobile Hotspot". It was then that the term "hotspot" entered the popular vernacular

Excuse me. Why don't we just jump back to earlier in the war?
The Jumplink doesnt work that way.
Jumplink?
Its the temporal displacement device housed in a fortified location
Time only flows in one direction. Its like a river. The Jumplink placed two rafts on that river, 30 years apart.
Now, we can jump back and forth between them, but both rafts will always keep moving forward.
So, why cant we just build more rafts?
The Jumplink tech is held together with chewing gum and chicken wire.
We've barely managed to make one very rudimentary wormhole. If we werent in an extinction-level event, we'd still be jumping lab rats.

Baltar: Yes, well, you helped a bit.
Six: I rewrote half your algorithms.

The one sleeping dream I have been aware of all day after getting out of bed was the same type of recurring-dream that plagues me so many nights: an elevator that won't stop on the floor I want it to.
Corridors, hallways, passageways, stairwells.
No matter how many times I push that damn button, it just won't stop on my floor.
And it's always different. Vividly different scenes, different people, different locations, and the elevator won't stop on my floor.
And that makes no sense. Even back in the 878 Days, there were no elevators. I cannot recall the last time I was on an elevator. I don't think about elevators during my waking hours. There's nothing in my waking hours that makes me think of elevators.

Adama: Stand by to execute battle plan.
Tigh: Sir.
(The ships begin to pull out.)
Tigh: Weapons grid to full power. Stand by enemy suppression barrage.
(Galactica's guns come out. The Cylon ships leave the base star.)
Gaeta: Incoming, 72 Cylon fighters, closing at one two zero mark four eight.
Adama: Enemy suppression fire, all batteries execute.
Tigh: All batteries, commence firing.
(Galactica fires, takes out some of the fighters.)
Gaeta: Perimeter established.
Adama: Launch Vipers.
Dualla: Vipers, clear to launch.
(Vipers launch)
Apollo: Broken formation, razzle dazzle, don't let them use their targetting computers and for frak's sake, stay out of Galactica's firing solution.
Doral: You mixed the samples up! I'm human!
(CIC)
Dualla: (using some kind of scanner) It's not hot, sir.
Tigh: Very well. Remove it.
Gaeta: Ahh, I don't see anything in the maintenance records about it, sir, but I'm pretty sure I first noticed it about a week ago.
Tigh: And you didn't say anything? Didn't investigate a new piece of equipment that just appeared in CIC?
Gaeta: No, sir. I just assumed that it was part of the museum. Sorry, sir, there's no excuse.
Tigh: You're not alone, Lieutenant. Any one of us should have seen the perfectly obvious staring us in the face. Especially the ship's XO.
Dualla: What should I do with it, sir?
Tigh: Take it to Dr. Baltar. I've given him clearance - he's become our resident Cylon expert. Have him take it to the lab, figure out whether it's a bug, or whatever the hell it is. In the meantime, I want every inch of this ship searched for any other equipment that just appeared in the last week.
(Tigh, Apollo and Baltar are gathered around a table.)
Tigh: Ship's doctors say that at first glance, everything in Leoben's body appears human. Internal organs, lymphatic system, the works.
Baltar: Right, well the tissue sample yielded unique chemical compounds during the cremation that reveal the nature of the sample to be synthetic. (He feigns surprise.) So he was a Cylon?
Adama: Yes, he was. And now we have a problem.
Tigh: A big one.
Adama: If the Cylons look like us, then any one of us could be a Cylon.
Baltar: That's, that's a very frightening possibility.

The following events occurred in May 1966:
May 19, 1966
The XB-70 Valkyrie strategic bomber became the first vehicle to hold a sustained (more than half an hour) in excess of Mach 3. Literally moving faster than a speeding bullet, at three times the speed of sound, the six-engine jet aircraft was flown at its "triplesonic" speed of more than 2,000 miles per hour for 32 minutes by test pilot Al White of North American Aviation, and his co-pilot, USAF Colonel Joe Cotton. Friction from the air heated the outside of the aircraft to 620 degrees Fahrenheit. As the plane returned to Edwards Air Force Base in California, the two pilots discovered that the landing gear would not lower because of a short circuit; Colonel Cotton reportedly "used a paper clip to short circuit an electrical terminal" to lower the gear, sparing the crew from having "to bail out and abandon the $500 million craft".

Valkyrie
From Wikipedia
In Norse mythology, a valkyrie (from Old Norse: valkyrja, lit. 'chooser of the slain') is one of a host of female figures who guide souls of the dead to the god Odin's hall Valhalla. There, the deceased warriors become einherjar ('single fighters' or 'once fighters'). When the einherjar are not preparing for the cataclysmic events of Ragnarök, the valkyries bear them mead. Valkyries also appear as lovers of heroes and other mortals, where they are sometimes described as the daughters of royalty, sometimes accompanied by ravens and sometimes connected to swans, boars or wolves.
Etymology
The word valkyrie derives from Old Norse valkyrja (plural valkyrjur), which is composed of two words: the noun valr (referring to the slain on the battlefield) and the verb kjósa (meaning "to choose"). Together, they mean 'chooser of the slain'.

Charon
From Wikipedia
In Greek mythology, Charon or Kharon is the ferryman of the Greek underworld. He transports the souls of those who have been given funeral rites across the river (often called Acheron or Styx) that borders the underworld. Archaeology confirms that, in some burials, low-value coins known generically as Charon's obols were placed in, on, or near the mouth of the deceased, or next to the cremation urn containing the ashes. In Virgil's epic poem, Aeneid, the dead who could not pay the fee, and those who had received no funeral rites, had to wander the near shores of the Styx for one hundred years before they were allowed to cross the river.

THE KILLERS
"Spaceman"
It started with a low light,
Next thing I knew they ripped me from my bed
And then they took my blood type
It left a strange impression in my head.
You know that I was hoping,
That I could leave this star-crossed world behind
But when they cut me open,
I guess I changed my mind.
And you know I might
Have just flown too far from the floor this time
Cause they're calling me by my name
And the zipping white light beams
Disregards the bombs and satellites
That was the turning point
That was one lonely night
The star maker says, "It ain't so bad"
The dream maker's gonna make you mad
The spaceman says, "Everybody look down
It's all in your mind"
Well now I'm back at home, and
I'm looking forward to this life I live
You know its gonna haunt me
So hesitation to this life I give.
You think you might cross over,
You're caught between the devil and the deep blue sea
You better look it over,
Before you make that leap
And you know I'm fine,
But I hear those voices at night sometimes-
They justify my claim,
And the public don't dwell my transmission
Cause it wasn't televised
