First Things First: Astrology is not Astronomy…
Astronomy is the scientific study of everything in outer space. Astronomers and other scientists know that stars many light-years away have no effect on the ordinary activities of humans on Earth.

I also have these unexplained thoughts that I was a fighter pilot in the U.S. military, although I'm not sure which service, but I may have been in two different branches over time. I am also confused about thoughts that I may have been a helicopter pilot. What's next? A space shuttle pilot? Seems like a lot for someone that is only 40. And, while I am not sure when this divergence happened, I am reasonably certain it was before I turned 33. So I must have been a pretty busy guy. Especially because I have thoughts that I was some kind of mathmetician too. I have these thoughts too that I was captured by enemy forces at some point and tortured while in captivity.

TEAL'C: They rule by force. Their numbers were very few but they are growing.
KENNEDY: How many worlds do they control?
TEAL'C: Many hundreds. Perhaps more.
KENNEDY: And should we expect to encounter these Goa'ulds everywhere we go?

TEAL'C: It is possible. But there are many more worlds the Goa'ulds have no use for. On those worlds the people are abandoned and left to fend for themselves.
KENNEDY: Is there a leadership or Government with which we could negotiate a peace.
TEAL'C: Some, like Apophis, are great Kings and rule over many worlds as their Gods but they have no need for peace. If they could kill you, they would.
KENNEDY: Could they? They have spacecraft, right?
TEAL'C: Yes. Without a Stargate, such a journey would take many months, perhaps even years. It would take many vessels, many slave armies.
O'NEILL: We're not that much of a nuisance, just yet.

Shuttle Crew Toasts Telescope's Release

HOUSTON — As a stronger, smarter Hubble Space Telescope drifted farther away Wednesday, the shuttle Discovery's astronauts couldn't wait to get back home Friday to celebrate their service mission.
"I'll buy for the whole crew, and they're going to take me up on that," chief spacewalker Mark Lee said as his six crew mates cheered. "Up here, we've got some orange mango drink and some lemonade, but that's about as stiff as it gets. So I'm ready for a margarita."
Discovery is scheduled for a rare nighttime landing at Kennedy Space Center in Florida.
The $2-billion Hubble observatory, anchored for nearly a week in the shuttle's open cargo bay, was set free to rousing music after being modernized and repaired in five wearying spacewalks, conducted one night after another.
"It's been sitting in the mother's nest in the shuttle quite comfortable, and now our little baby's out on its own," said NASA's chief Hubble scientist, Ed Weiler.
The orbiting Hubble will undergo an eight- to 10-week checkout by ground controllers before it can start gazing deeper into the universe with its new infrared eyes and two-dimensional imaging sensors.
"These are all instruments built in 1990s with today's technology and far surpass anything we have on the old space telescope," Weiler said. "We just don't know what we're going to see with these new instruments."
The first images are to be released in May.
"Thanks to you . . . the window on the universe is about to be open just a little bit more," NASA Administrator Daniel S. Goldin told the crew.
Hubble and Discovery parted company 385 miles above Africa's western coast, the highest orbit ever for the telescope thanks to a gradual, gentle lift on the shuttle.
It was the second service call to the Hubble, which was put in orbit in 1990.
In 1993, spacewalking astronauts fixed the Hubble's blurred vision, caused by a defective mirror.
The latest mission was nearly flawless.
"From my viewpoint, we did more than we set out to do," John Campbell, a Hubble manager, said. "I'd say we're 110% successful."
One big surprise was peeling insulation on Hubble's sun-drenched side.
The astronauts covered the six gaping holes with jury-rigged patches during their fifth spacewalk, added specifically to repair the insulation.
In 1999, astronauts will return to equip Hubble with a new camera, computer, thermal insulation and solar wings. NASA hopes to keep operating Hubble until at least 2005.

Galileo arrives in Rome to face charges of heresy
On this day in 1633, Italian philosopher, astronomer and mathematician Galileo Galilei arrives in Rome to face charges of heresy for advocating Copernican theory, which holds that the Earth revolves around the Sun. Galileo officially faced the Roman Inquisition in April of that same year and agreed to plead guilty in exchange for a lighter sentence. Put under house arrest indefinitely by Pope Urban VIII, Galileo spent the rest of his days at his villa in Arcetri, near Florence, before dying on January 8, 1642.
Galileo, the son of a musician, was born February 15, 1564, in Pisa, in what is today known as Italy. He entered the University of Pisa planning to study medicine, but shifted his focus to philosophy and mathematics. In 1589, he became a professor at Pisa for several years, during which time he demonstrated that the speed of a falling object is not proportional to its weight, as Aristotle had believed. According to some reports, Galileo conducted his research by dropping objects of different weights from the Leaning Tower of Pisa. From 1592 to 1630, Galileo was a math professor at the University of Padua, where he developed a telescope that enabled him to observe lunar mountains and craters, the four largest moons of Jupiter and the phases of Venus. He also discovered that the Milky Way was made up of stars. Following the publication of his research in 1610, Galileo gained acclaim and was appointed court mathematician at Florence.
Galileo’s research led him to become an advocate of the work of the Polish astronomer Nicolaus Copernicus (1473-1543). However, the Copernican theory of a sun-centered solar system conflicted with the teachings of the powerful Roman Catholic Church, which essentially ruled Italy at the time. Church teachings contended that Earth, not the sun, was at the center of the universe. In 1633, Galileo was brought before the Roman Inquisition, a judicial system established by the papacy in 1542 to regulate church doctrine. This included the banning of books that conflicted with church teachings. The Roman Inquisition had its roots in the Inquisition of the Middle Ages, the purpose of which was to seek out and prosecute heretics, considered enemies of the state.
Today, Galileo is recognized for making important contributions to the study of motion and astronomy. His work influenced later scientists such as the English mathematician and physicist Sir Isaac Newton, who developed the law of universal gravitation. In 1992, the Vatican formally acknowledged its mistake in condemning Galileo.

Space Shuttle Astronauts Pedal Around World

KENNEDY SPACE CENTER, Fla. — The space shuttle Columbia's astronauts got an orbital workout Friday as they pedaled at full speed around the world to see how their bodies were holding up after nearly two weeks in space.
One by one, the crew members worked their way from 30% of maximum exercise capacity on the shuttle's stationary cycle to 60% and then to 100%. They breathed into a tube connected to a gas analyzer as they cycled; their heart rates and blood pressures also were monitored.
"This may not feel so good to do, but it's very important in understanding the absolute capacity of our cardiovascular system to deliver oxygen to the tissues of the body, particularly the muscles," astronaut-physician David Wolf said before hopping on the cycle.
Muscles weaken in weightlessness, as do bones. Wolf and the three other scientist-astronauts aboard ingested and injected one another with calcium Friday to see how it is absorbed by the body in space.
Researchers involved in Columbia's 14-day medical mission want to know whether bone loss in weightlessness is caused by increased bone destruction, decreased bone formation, or both.
The dissections today of some of the 48 rats aboard the shuttle--a space first--should help answer that question.
The remaining animals will be killed for dissection after the flight.
The flight, the longest ever for a shuttle, is due to end Monday with a landing at Edwards Air Force Base in California.
Medical Research in Space
Astronauts aboard the space shuttle Columbia have been performing experiments in medical disciplines ranging from neuroscience to cardiovascular physiology during their two-week mission. Some of the notable projects include:
Weightlessness: A study of the effects of weightlessness on the cardiovascular system. The experiment requires astronauts to spend time in a vacuum sack that forces blood and other body fluids from their chests into their legs. Researchers want to see if the treatment keeps them from becoming dizzy once they are back on Earth, a common complaint of returning astronauts.
Muscle mass: A determination of how protein metabolism is changed in space--an effort to determine why muscle mass decreases during long space flights. Each crew member is weighed daily and a log is kept of all fluids and total nitrogen intake, among other things.
Body fluids: An examination of how space flight affects body fluids and disturbs body electrolytes. Zero gravity causes a fluid shift toward the head, which causes a perceived increase in the body's blood volume. Measurements of blood, urine and saliva are being taken.
Calcium loss: Tests to determine how space flight causes a loss in the body's calcium level. Researchers believe that significant changes in hormones may be associated with calcium loss.
Sensory organs: A probe into how the body handles the loss of information, such as the loss of the sense of gravity, when it has redundant paths of such information. Space sickness, which affects many astronauts, is believed to be related to the brain's confusion when it receives conflicting information from the inner ear and from other sensory organs.
Animal testing: The Columbia carried 48 rats into space as part of a study of life processes in zero gravity. Astronauts will use a laboratory guillotine like this to behead and dissect six of the rats in space so that their systems will not readjust to gravity. The other 42 rats will be kept alive for examination on Earth. Among other things, NASA wants to see how zero gravity affects calcium levels and hormones in the rats' internal systems.

I wake up from a dream and I ponder over it for a while but what I am wondering most about right now again is why I feel compelled to record certain dreams and why I feel a certain sense of being compelled to not record other dreams. I wonder if that is some kind of mechanism in my mind to keep my real memory from returning to conscious awareness. I also ponder over the nature of having dreams that are from the mind that is based on artificial memory. Dreams are puzzling enough but then to have dreams while living with artificial memory.

I woke up from a dream and then starting feel concerned that my dream could have been some kind of warning from my real memory about someone that was in danger. I wonder if I read something that only my subconsious mind understood and then it appeared in my dream in a context that was not necessarily threatening.

I was steering a boat along a river that looked kind of green and then I came to a point where I had to drag the pontoon boat onto the ground because the river seemed to end. I could see a large lake off to the right but I could not figure out how to get there with the boat. The river seemed to have stopped very near to a cliff as I could see the cliff I was standing at and that lake was at a much lower elevation than I was at. I don't know where the water was going. I didn't see a waterfall. I guess the river channel had just stopped and it was some kind back-channel that was not flowing.

I have been trying hard to remember the part of the dream that leads up to the point I remember dreaming about but as usual I cannot remember. The first part I remember is that I was steering the pontoon boat along the river and I seemed to be alone but details from later in the dream suggest I was not. On the bank to the right, I saw a group of people and there might have been another river channel leading off in that direction that they were on. I remember a woman saying "How dare you" but I don't know who she was referring to and I cannot actually remember seeing her. One person in the group started swimming in the river and crossed behind the boat towards the other side. Then there was something about a sign posted in the middle of the river channel that cautioned about a buried cable and then something about how people seldom used caution about that particular buried cable or about any other buried cable. I am not certain if the detail I heard from some unseen person was about that particular buried cable or about how people seldom use caution with buried cables in general. I might have cranked up the speed right about then but I am fuzzy on that part. The next part I remember was about dragging the boat out of the water and after being awake for a while I started to wonder if that has something to do with the portage area I was reviewing all those times at Allyn, Washington, but I do not think that is it although it could be some general reference to portage for boat. But I don't know. I don't think that is it.

Life
Werner Forssmann was born in Berlin, where he also studied medicine. As a newly educated doctor, he served in Eberswalde and conducted his Nobel Prize-awarded experiment there in 1929. His experimentation met resistance, however, which impeded continued research in the field. After being chief surgeon in Dresden and Berlin, Werner Forssmann served as a doctor in the army during World War II. After the war ended, he worked as a district medical officer, among other things. Werner Forssmann and his wife, also a doctor, had six children
Work
In 1929 the physician Werner Forssmann saw a picture in a book showing how a tube was inserted into the heart of a horse through a vein. A balloon at the other end of the tube showed changes in pressure. He was convinced that a similar experiment could be carried out on people. Despite the fact that his boss forbade him, Werner Forssmann conducted the experiment on himself. From the crook of his arm he inserted a thin catheter through a vein into his heart and took an X-ray photo. The experiment paved the way for many types of heart studies.

Plot
Marine Sergeant Bob Lansing has just completed a tour of duty in the Pacific and is off to study at the Officer's Academy in Annapolis if he passes the entrance exam. He soon finds out that his younger brother, Jimmy Lansing, just recently made sergeant as well, will also be taking the exam with him. The Lansing brothers are hard working and patriotic military men and both deserve to be accepted into the Academy, but they learn there is only one spot available. As entrance into Annapolis is dependent both on their exam results and their record, they are encouraged by the base colonel to enter into a friendly rivalry for the three weeks on the base prior to the exam. They also enter into a friendly rivalry for the affections of Penelope Hayworth, the admiral's daughter. The more gregarious Jimmy believes he has the upper hand in the latter competition if only because of his more outgoing nature. Ultimately, both Bob and Jimmy have to decide if being an officer, getting Penelope or brotherly loyalty is most important.
