I had a very clear dream of me back in uniform and given a new assignment on a base. I can remember seeing that I was wearing the USN Captain insignia on my khakis. I walked into a room where a change of command was going on. I'm not sure if I was told this in the dream or if I am assuming that is what's happening. I know or assume that the two officer's in the change of command were subordinate officers to me and that they were Commander's. Their command was a subordinate command to mine. I remember from the dream shaking hands with one of them and introducing myself as Captain. I can't remember the name I gave her but I think I said Captain Thomas Ray. There is also some kind of element to that part of the dream; something about it seeming silly to introduce myself by stating my rank because that was obvious or I was stating the obvious. And another unusual part was that they wouldn't tell me which one of them was taking command during that ceremony
and which one was relinquishing command. I felt comfortable being back in that role, but yet, I felt as though I was still missing a few too many pieces of the jigsaw puzzle that is my mind, for my comfort. I probably serve better now for a while as an independent operative rather than an officer in charge of a large command where subordinates have certain expectations of their Captain.

KOMO-TV anchor Kathi Goertzen having another brain surgery

Kathi Goertzen, one of the most recognizable broadcasters in town, would so much rather be story teller than story subject. But here she is, on the eve of yet another brain surgery, being interviewed in her newsroom, stopping to field hugs from co-workers.
The KOMO-TV anchor is scheduled to have surgery Thursday morning to remove part of a tumor that has regrown at the base of her brain. It'll be the third time she's undergone the procedure in the past 10 years.
"I hate putting everyone through this again. I really do especially my friends, my family and loved ones," says Goertzen, 49. "It really stinks."
During an interview, under exceedingly difficult circumstances, she is warm and open, gently cursing at herself when she feels like she's about to weep — "Where's the freaking Kleenex?" — and funny.
"What did someone say the other day? It's like I'm giving it a little haircut," she says about her tumor and the pending surgery. "I'm going in for a little trim."
Says Eric Johnson, KOMO-TV news and sports anchorman: "She's so strong and I think it buoys all of us."

"Third time's a charm, right?" she wrote in an e-mail to her newsroom earlier this week, wanting to make sure she told the staff first before talking publicly.
During an interview, under exceedingly difficult circumstances, she is warm and open, gently cursing at herself when she feels like she's about to weep — "Where's the freaking Kleenex?" — and funny.
"What did someone say the other day? It's like I'm giving it a little haircut," she says about her tumor and the pending surgery. "I'm going in for a little trim."
This time, rather than Goertzen breaking the news of her surgery on TV as if it were any other story, she pretaped a five-minute segment in the living room of her Seattle home, on the couch with Johnson, weather anchor Steve Pool and her longtime co-anchor Dan Lewis. Goertzen and Lewis have anchored the evening newscasts for 20 years.
The emotional segment led Wednesday night's 5 p.m. newscast.

A message from Kathi Goertzen:
Dear Friends,
I am so sorry to have to tell you this again. I have had a recurrence of my brain tumor.
The experimental drug I used following my recent surgery was not successful and the tumor has grown back.
On Wednesday, September 24th, I will once again have surgery to remove as much as possible. The surgery will be followed by radiation treatment.
