How many people would think this reality is a simulation if not for that ridiculous 1999 "The Matrix"
Certainly, none
It is a mind-trap, perhaps for good reason
I write about it only because none of those dim-wits will ever read this explanation
People are incapable of independent-thought. They think only what they are told to think
Their belief in a "simulated reality" traps them from trying to rationalize their way out to somewhere else

I sat down there in that park for 24 hours, thinking that surely something was going to happen.

Space: Above And Beyond
"The River of Stars"

TV-series season 1 episode 11
Saratoga communications officer: No response, sir. And the T.D.R.S. system confirms our signal has been received.
Lt. Colonel McQueen: Have it pinpoint the location of the signal reception.
Saratoga communications officer: The linking tracking satellite was taken out in the firefight.
Lt. Colonel McQueen: So what you're saying is they can hear us, but we can't hear them.
Saratoga communications officer: Sir, just because a signal is being received doesn't mean there's anyone around to receive it.
Space: Above and Beyond
"The River of Stars"
Episode Number: 12
Season Num: 1
First Aired: Sunday December 17, 1995
Christmas Eve finds the 58th in dire straits: its transport vehicle, damaged in battle, is hurtling uncontrolled into enemy territory and the pilots must struggle to stay alive with no power, no weapons, and no hope of being rescued.
Lt. Colonel McQueen [ radio communication ]: We believe your radio to be in receive-only mode. We're presently conducting search and rescue operations in the Procyon System. I know you're out there. Hold on. Don't lose faith.
1LT Paul Wang: We're not in the Procyon System. We're far from it. We got knocked out in the firefight.
1LT Cooper Hawkes: We're dumping in the river.
1LT Kelly Winslow: That must be Hawkes way of trying to say that we're up a creek without a paddle.
1LT Paul Wang: Well, he's almost right. If we were on Earth, our ship would seem to be going through the Eridanus Constellation. A river of stars.
WINSLOW: Wow, I guess we caught a lucky break, a good tv show before drifting off into eternity.
VANSEN: If we ever get home we should chip in and get McQueen a good therapist.
WANG: It's not McQueen. Television signals have been inadvertently beamed into space since ... the 1940s. We're probably just intercepting it.

Somewhere in the Night (1946)
George Taylor: (wounded in hospital thinking to himself with his jaw wired shut) I won't let them know I can't remember. I won't let them dig him up!
(later)
US Marine Corps sergeant: Taylor, George W.
US Marine Corps staff sergeant: Hello, Taylor. Sit down. You're now in the process of being separated from the armed forces of the United States. You feel you have a right to know answers to a lot of questions about yourself and how you'll fit into civilian life. Those questions need not necessarily be restricted to the G.I. Bill of Rights employment, insurance and such. Oh, by the way. Before I forget. Your seabag, it's been located. Any change in your civilian address?
George Taylor: My civilian address.
US Marine Corps sergeant: I could ask one of the boys to drop it off.
George Taylor: I'll, uh - Maybe I'd better pick it up myself.
US Marine Corps sergeant: Well, why wait around? It might be this afternoon, it might be a couple of days. I imagine you'll be wanting to get back to Los Angeles. We could have it delivered to the, uh... Martin Hotel. Will you be going back there?
Somewhere in the Night (1946)
Christy Smith: How far do you think you'll get?
George Taylor: The nearest foxhole maybe. They'll be watching my hotel - all sorts of people.
Christy Smith: What's your name?
George Taylor: Taylor. George Taylor. It's all over town. I may run for dogcatcher. Look, I've gotta talk to somebody. I'll go crazy if I don't talk to somebody.
Christy Smith: I'm somebody.
George Taylor: I think you are. What do you know about amnesia?
Christy Smith: Not much. Something that happens to you. You forget who you are or where you belong. Isn't that it?
George Taylor: Yeah. Every now and then you read about it in the newspaper - a guy named John Doe was picked up in a fog. Never happens to anybody you know. It happened to me. Yeah. For all I know, I might have been born six months ago. That's a joke because six months ago I woke up in a hospital. That's where babies are born, in a hospital. Only this was different. It was in the South Pacific, and it wasn't the maternity ward.
Somewhere in the Night (1946)
George Taylor: That's a joke because six months ago I woke up in a hospital. That's where babies are born, in a hospital. Only this was different. It was in the South Pacific, and it wasn't the maternity ward. My jaw was wired. I couldn't talk. I couldn't ask who I was. I... I nearly went nuts. Then I found my wallet. There was a letter in it. No name. No signature. Just a letter. It - It told me about myself. It told me good. From then on I lived with that letter. It went around in my head like a crazy squirrel on a hopped-up treadmill. I was scared, and I was sick. Sick to my heart at what the letter said I was like... and scared of anybody finding it out. Scared I'd find it out myself. I didn't want to know anymore. So I kept my mouth shut. I got away with it, got my discharge. And I thought maybe I could start with a brand-new scorepad. But you can't just throw away - How many years of living? I don't even know. Do you know what it's like, Christy, to be alone in the world? Really alone in the whole world. A billion people, and every one of them a stranger. Or what's worse, not a stranger. Somebody maybe who knows you, hates you
