"The Hole in the Ground" from 02/26/2019 is a clear match.
Beginning to read the first part of the book, will later determine if this is indeed the same book I remember reading about 40 years ago, never could remember the name of the book
They seemed to have fashioned today's episode of "From" by what I will describe here later
There was also a tweet from the "Counterpart" account that forms a match. The series had already ended by the tweet soon after describes details that are familiar to this book

From the preview I watched today, the production is updated for this modern time. So no point dwelling on that, for this streaming-video serial based on a novel that was first published in year 1951, and its effect on me as I wrote about recently, from when I first read it, 40 years ago. Assuming it's the same novel
The action starts quickly. Keyword search in the Kindle version delivers no results for 'pyrite'
Reading more, I suddenly thought back to year 2005 when I first became homeless. Thinking of that stream I parked my Jeep Wrangler near at night as I sat there asleep in the driver's seat. There was a place much higher in elevation there in the mountains but it got really cold up there at night and I would drive back down the area of that stream and sleep there until morning
I have written before about that place in the context of those two episodes from 1990s of "The Outer Limits" tv-series. "Double Helix" and "Origin of Species"
Flat Earther's are always writing about the 'earth', too narrow-minded and unimaginative to realize that 'Earth' is a proper-noun and should be written as such. It's a place. Dirt is not a place.
Maybe that's why they cast Endeavour Guy for the starring role of "Earth Abides"
Page 16 of 346 makes me think again of that key fact. Thinking that there is a better example that I will discover later
