Battlestar Galactica - Dr. Gaius Baltar

(Cut to a tv screen, where a reporter, whose name is given as Kellan Brody, is talking to a man, Dr. Gaius Baltar.)

Brody: For those of you just joining us from the pyramid game on Geminon, welcome to The Spotlight, our weekly interview program devoted to people making news on Caprica.

(Gaius is looking out the window and then looking at his watch.)

Brody: Today, we're talking to Dr. Gaius Baltar, winner of three Magnet Awards over the course of his career, a media cult figure and a personal friend of President Adar's. He is currently working as a top consultant for the ministry of defense on computer issues, but he's perhaps best known for his controversial views on advancing computer technology. (The camera pans around so that we can see that Baltar is giving the interview from his home. Nice place.) Dr. Baltar, again, welcome.

Baltar: Thank you, Kellan. And first may I say how lovely you're looking, and secondly, what an absolute pleasure it is to be on the show.

Brody: Well, we're delighted to have you with us. Could you summarize your views for our audience?

Baltar: Yes, I'd be happy to. My position is very simple. (Off to the side, we see Number Six walk into the house and put a metal box down on a table.) The ban on research and development into artificial intelligence is, as we all know, a holdover from the Cylon Wars. Quite frankly, I find this to be an outmoded concept. It serves no useful purpose except to impede our efforts.

(Number Six smiles. We cut to her and Baltar kissing; she pushes him against the wall. They stumble into the bedroom, pulling off their clothes.)

Six: Miss me?

Baltar: Can't you tell?

Six: Your body misses me, but what about your heart, your soul?

Baltar: Yeah, those too.

Six: Do you love me, Gaius?

Baltar: What?

Six: (grabbing his face) Do you love me?

Baltar: Are you serious? (She smiles; they go back to kissing.) You had me worried there for a minute.

Six: (tossing him on the bed and straddling him) I'm hot, Gaius. (She undoes her bra.) I'm so hot. (We can see her spine glowing as they have sex.)

Original Airdate: Dec 29, 1966

(from internet transcript)

(tv-series episode begins:)

[Bridge]

(Enterprise is orbiting a very green planet, and a young female Yeoman is getting a signature from the Captain.)

KIRK: Anything from the landing party?

SPOCK: They should be sending up a report momentarily, Captain. (Kirk stretches and groans) Something wrong?

KIRK: A kink in my back. (behind his back the Yeoman starts to massage it) That's it. A little higher, please. Push. Push hard. Dig it in there, Mister

(Spock steps forward and Kirk realises who is massaging his lower back)

KIRK: Thank you, Yeoman. That's sufficient.

TONIA: You need sleep, Captain. If it's not out of line

KIRK: I have enough of that from Doctor McCoy, Yeoman. Thank you.

SPOCK: Doctor McCoy is correct, Captain. After what this ship has been through in the last three months, there is not a crewman aboard who is not in need of rest. Myself excepted, of course.

KIRK: Have Doctor McCoy's report channeled to my quarters, Lieutenant.

UHURA: Aye, aye, Captain.

[Planet surface - Glade]

SULU: Beautiful, beautiful. No animals, no people, no worries. Just what the doctor ordered. Right, Doctor?

MCCOY: I couldn't have prescribed better. We are one weary ship.

SULU: Do you think the Captain will authorise shore leave here?

MCCOY: Depending upon my report and that of the other scouting parties. You know, you have to see this place to believe it. It's like something out of Alice in Wonderland. The Captain has to come down.

SULU: He'd like it.

MCCOY: He needs it. You've got your problems, I've got mine. He's got ours, plus his, plus four hundred and thirty other people's. Where are you going?

SULU: To get some cell-structure records. A blade of grass, a bush, a tree, a flower petal. With these, we can tell the whole planet's biology.

(As Sulu crouches down behind some pampas grass, McCoy turns and looks straight at a white rabbit in a check jacket, yellow waistcoat, and looking at a gold pocket-watch.)

RABBIT: Oh, my paws and whiskers! I'll be late.

(It heads off down a hole. Then a young girl comes running up, wearing a blue dress with a white apron.)

ALICE: Excuse me, sir. Have you seen a rather large white rabbit with a yellow waistcoat and white gloves here about?

(Wordlessly, McCoy points in the direction the rabbit went. The girl curtseys nicely)

ALICE: Thank you very much.

(She runs off after the rabbit)

MCCOY: Sulu!

SULU: What is it? What's the matter?

MCCOY: Did you see them?

SULU: See what? I don't see anything. What is it, Doc?

from my private journal, as me, Kerry Burgess, typed after being released from the USA Veterans Affairs psychiatric hospital enduring many months sitting in a grungy two-computer room in a homeless shelter on the waterfront in downtown Seattle:

I can’t remember the exact date I actually got that passport, but I believe it was in July 2002. I remember it was the day I got it that I went into Kirk Tavener’s office, he wanted me to let him know when I got it, and told him something illegal was going on in his office. That was after he showed me that pornographic video, which I believe was sometime in July 2002, although I can’t remember the day. My passport has been stamped for one trip I have taken out of the country. It was stamped 23.01.03 Amsterdam Schipol

The typical United States American is childish and naive.

Your feeble, dim-wit mind always thinks that movies, especially action, are always about *somebody*.

Americans, in their pathetic lives, are incapable of seeing through the messenger to the message.

The Terminator (1984)

Quotes

Sarah Connor: [in a stolen car] Reese. Why me? Why does it want me?

Kyle Reese: There was a nuclear war. A few years from now, all this, this whole place, everything, it's gone. Just gone. There were survivors. Here, there. Nobody even knew who started it. It was the machines, Sarah.

Sarah Connor: I don't understand.

Kyle Reese: Defense network computers. New... powerful... hooked into everything, trusted to run it all. They say it got smart, a new order of intelligence. Then it saw all people as a threat, not just the ones on the other side. Decided our fate in a microsecond: extermination.

Sarah Connor: Did you see this war?

Kyle Reese: No. I grew up after. In the ruins... starving... hiding from H-K's.

Sarah Connor: H-K's?

Kyle Reese: Hunter-Killers. Patrol machines built in automated factories. Most of us were rounded up, put in camps for orderly disposal.

[pulls up his right sleeve, exposing a mark]

Kyle Reese: This is burned in by laser scan. Some of us were kept alive... to work... loading bodies. The disposal units ran night and day. We were that close to going out forever. But there was one man who taught us to fight, to storm the wire of the camps, to smash those metal motherfuckers into junk. He turned it around. He brought us back from the brink. His name is Connor. John Connor. Your son, Sarah... your unborn son.
