REDMOND, Wash. -- What a difference a year and a lot of executive bullshit make. Eight out of 10 geeks now want to tell their managers to "pack sand."
Last year, after no appreciable agitation in Febuary, geek morale was high and the sandpack was at 26 percent of normal. Last March tenth the state Ecology Department issued a drought of bullshit proclamation.

Hey........why do I "remember" that I had burgundy sheets on that waterbed I had in my bedroom in that apartment at Westchase in Charleston? That's when I was assigned to the Wainwright. Why would I "remember" such a trivial detail? I didn't think of that until just a few minutes ago as I was washing my laundry and I realized that I specifically wanted burgundy sheets when I bought them a few weeks ago and that wasn't the first time either. I remember thinking to myself when I was in Fred Meyer that I like burgundy sheets and they are relaxing. The color is similar to the ribbon on the Good Conduct Medal I wrote of the other day, but why I would that be important? U.S. Navy officers don't receive that medal; only enlisted USN sailors receive it.

I was thinking last night again about how some thoughts I used to have now make sense. Thoughts about traveling through space by myself on a spacecraft. Those imaginative thoughts may represent my trip to Mars.
I have also thought several times about that part in “Raid On The Sun” where he describes how one of the pilots cut off the finger of a glove. He did it to watch for a change of color in his fingernail which meant he was slowly starving of oxygen. That’s how Gagarin bought it. I have wondered for a while if someone purposely killed him.
Also, I was having some thoughts a while back similar to what I described earlier today. But in those other thoughts, it was I that was trying to keep the aircraft stable enough to eject. I was thinking about how difficult it would be to pull in your arms and legs in preparation for ejection when letting go of the controls for an instant could cause the aircraft to flip upside down or start rolling.

NEW YORK - Call it a photo flop.
The White House [ NAZI PROPAGANDA ]late Monday apologized for a photo-op and military training exercise involving two low-flying aircraft - a presidential plane and an F-16 fighter jet just above downtown Manhattan that sparked fears and panic of another Sept. 11.
The New York Police Department knew. The 911 dispatchers knew. And Mayor Mike Bloomberg's citywide event coordination and management director, Marc Mugnos, knew. In fact, the FAA and several other public agencies knew.
Administration officials said planning started in mid-March and told the FAA to make the airspace available.
But the mayor abruptly found out about Monday morning's fighter jet photo-op and military training mission via complaints sent to his BlackBerry, as thousands of New Yorkers fled several lower Manhattan buildings and made frantic phone calls.
Because Mugnos didn't tell the mayor about the planned flyover, he has been reprimanded and a disciplinary letter has been placed in his file, a Bloomberg spokesman said Monday.
An Obama administration official said the photo-op was intended to update a photo of Air Force One with the Statue of Liberty. An administration official last night said "the president was furious when he heard about the flight."
Bloomberg later said had he known about the flyover, he would have moved to stop it. Bloomberg also blasted the White House for signing off on a publicity stunt it should have known would backfire.
"I'm annoyed - furious is a better word," Bloomberg said. "Why … the Defense Department wanted to do a photo-op right around the site of the World Trade Center catastrophe defies imagination."
By late Monday, the White House had apologized.
"While federal authorities took the proper steps to notify state and local authorities in New York and New Jersey, it's clear that the mission created confusion and disruption," said Louis Caldera, director of the White House Military Office. "I apologize and take responsibility for any distress that flight caused."
The exercise seemed well-intentioned enough: An F-16 fighter jet, tailing a presidential Boeing 747, known in the military as a VC-25 aircraft and used by President Barack Obama, would race through the skies over lower Manhattan, allowing Air Force photographers to take pictures with the Statue of Liberty in the background.
To save money, it was done in coordination with a military training exercise, said a White House official.
But many New Yorkers, completely unaware, reacted as if terrorists were about to strike. People in several buildings evacuated.
The NYPD said witnesses put the height of the planes at no more than 500 feet. That's substantially less than the 1,000 to 1,500 feet the planes were supposed to fly, according to a classified letter sent by the Federal Aviation Administration to a number of agencies last Friday.
That left New Yorkers on their own to figure out what was happening. "We thought we were under attack again," said Laorie Crystal, 50, of Battery Park City, walking her dog at the time. "It was very scary."

NEW YORK (CNN) -- A "furious" President Obama [ NAZI PROPAGANDA ]has ordered a review of the decision to fly a Boeing 747 frighteningly close to the lower Manhattan skyline, White House press secretary Robert Gibbs said Tuesday.
The review will focus on "why that decision was made and to ensure that it never happens again," Gibbs said.[ NAZI PROPAGANDA ] Jim Messina, a deputy chief of staff, will lead the effort.
On Tuesday, Obama [ NAZI PROPAGANDA ]told reporters, "It was a mistake. It was something we found out about along with all of you. And it will not happen again."
Officials said that when Obama first found out about the incident, he was "furious."
The incident has led to a large amount of criticism from New Yorkers and politicians.

Witnesses reported seeing the plane circle over the Upper New York Bay near the Statue of Liberty before flying up the Hudson River.
The YouTube video shows dozens of people standing in a parking lot, watching the plane approach. As it nears, they begin to run. Someone unleashes an expletive. "Run, run!" says one person. "Oh my God," cries another.
A 911 call released by the Hudson County Sheriff's Department in New Jersey shows the panic caused by the plane.
"There's a plane falling, there is a big aircraft falling like 9/11," a man says to the operator. "Everybody is running and people are crying and panicking."

Navy commissions destroyer honoring Coronado's Stockdale

PORT HUENEME, Calif. — The U.S. Navy commissioned its newest guided-missile destroyer Saturday in a ceremony honoring Coronado's own Vice Adm. James Stockdale, the ship's namesake.
Four thousand folding chairs stood on the dock at the Naval Base Ventura County near Oxnard, in front of a gray behemoth there to be christened the USS Stockdale, in remembrance of one of the Navy's most highly decorated officers.
Most of those seats were filled before the hour-long ceremony began under a bright, cloudless sky at 11 a.m. Attendees reserved their loudest applause for the dozens of veterans and prisoners of war on hand, a group that included four Medal of Honor recipients.

Hope faded Thursday of finding 11 missing offshore workers alive as the sun set on a second day of searching and the massive drilling rig that exploded into flames late Tuesday night sank into the Gulf of Mexico.
With the fire doused and the rig submerged, the Coast Guard launched a sweeping effort to clean up petroleum spewed into the water and seal off a well at the sea floor that may have still been leaking oil.
As it did, investigations began and questions continued to swirl about the cause of the accident at the Deepwater Horizon, a half-billion-dollar rig owned and operated by Swiss-based Transocean that was under lease to BP.

Cowardice
Cowardice describes a personality trait which is typically viewed as a negative characteristic and has been generally frowned upon (see norms) within most, if not all global cultures, while courage, typically viewed as its direct opposite, is generally rewarded and encouraged.
"Cowardice" can be difficult to define outside of specific social contexts. In general terms, it is the perceived failure to demonstrate sufficient bravery in the face of an adverse situation. Cowards are usually seen to have avoided or refused to engage in a confrontation or struggle which has been deemed good or righteous by the wider culture in which they live.
On a more mundane level, the label may be applied to those who are regarded as too frightened to defend their rights or those of others from aggressors in their lives.
Etymology
According to the Online Etymology Dictionary, the word "coward" comes from an Old French word coart (modern French couard), a combination of the word for "tail" and an agent noun suffix. It would therefore have meant "one with a tail" — perhaps one in the habit of turning it, or it may be derived from the dog's habit of putting its tail between its legs when it is afraid.
