The Kingdome was an indoor sports and entertainment arena owned and operated by King County, Washington. WASHINGTON — When Vice President Dick Cheney's former chief of staff goes on trial today on charges of lying about the disclosure of a CIA officer's identity, members of Washington's government and media elite will be answering some embarrassing questions as well.
The estimated six-week trial of I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby will pit current and former Bush administration officials against one another and, if Cheney is called as expected, will mark the first time a sitting vice president has testified in a criminal case.
The case has largely played out in below-the-radar court hearings as prosecutors and defense lawyers have mapped the boundaries of the trial. Despite speculation that Bush would pardon Libby to avoid the spectacle of a trial, the date has arrived.

WASHINGTON — Richard Armitage, the former No. 2 State Department official, acknowledged Thursday he was a columnist's primary source in the disclosure that retired U.S. Ambassador Joseph Wilson's wife worked at the CIA.
The revelation touched off an investigation and led to the indictment of Vice President Dick Cheney's chief of staff.
Armitage, former deputy secretary of state, said the disclosure was inadvertent and that he cooperated fully with Justice Department Special Counsel Patrick Fitzgerald.
Fitzgerald, he said, had requested that he not talk about his role, a restriction that was lifted Tuesday.
"I called the special counsel on Tuesday of this week to ask if I could end this nightmare. He said yes," Armitage said.

Cheney was of military age and a supporter of the Vietnam War but he did not serve in the war, applying for and receiving five draft deferments. In an interview with George C.
