I was thinking about these times when the hood flew up on my red Ford as I was traveling down Hicks Road. It was lucky we didn't crash. The woman holding the torch during the intro for Columbia pictures looks a lot like a girlfriend I used to have. 1980. That was the year we moved from DeQueen to Ashdown. I think it was '81 when we moved onto Hicks Road. I started school at Ashdown Jr. High in '80. We had our 10 year reunion in '94 at the junior high school. I was teaching myself how to read Russian that year.

I've been thinking for a while that the dreams I have are literal. They are the foreign dreams I used to write, the dreams produced by the manipulators of my thoughts. Don't know what to say about that last one. Jumbled, disturbing, painful. Somebody put in a lot of effort to make me forget those memories, if it is real. There was a scene there straight out the opening of "Saving Private Ryan" except that it seemed to be in the Middle East. And it was something like a pyramid I was running into, and I was by myself and every gun, there were countless guns, was turning towards me. It was sort of like a pyramid I was rushing onto, except that it was elogated, like a castle wall. In another scene, a two-star general or admiral was captured by the enemy. Back in the stretched-pyramid, I was fighting off an attack. Grenades were flying in on me, but I don't recall them going off. Then, I and some of my fellow soldiers seemed to be cleaning the place. A lot of
other stuff that is fading from my mind. I feel sad, very sad.
I was thinking again last night about that American Legion award from my symbolic memory. I received it towards the end of my Junior year at Ashdown. I allegedly went to Iraq in my Junior year at the Academy in 1981. I wonder if it represents the Medal of Honor.

Also on my earnings report from the Social Security Administration is my after-school job from the 80's. Lately, I decided that the name "Mills" refers to the military. I pondered over whether there was any symbolism to connect my "memories" of working at Mills Store for 4 years and my theory that I attended the U.S. Naval Academy for 4 years. My theory was these details represent my attendance at the Academy when I focused on a seemingly important detail from my 3rd year working at Mills Store. It was during that 3rd year that my employer, Donald Mills, was elected mayor of the town. That summer, he was granted some funds from the federal government for road maintenance in the town and he put me in charge of a group of people to fix the potholes in the street. We worked all day fixing the pavement and then I put in a few more hours at his store after I let the crew off for the day. According to my "memories," that all occurred when I was in school and
after my fourth year working for Mills Store, where the M.S. probably represents 'Midshipman,' I "remember" going on active duty in the U.S. Navy. It was around that same time, at the end of my third year at Ashdown, just before the beginning of my last year at that school, that I recieved the American Legion award, which was a medal. I believe that time period represents how the Osirak strike was in the summer of 1981 and I graduated from USNA that next summer, meaning that I went to Iraq around the end of the equivalent of my junior year at the USNA.

After I awoke from a nap this afternoon, I felt compelled to write about a dream I had just before I woke up but then did not write about it. I started feeling that need to write about it again but may have forgotten some details by now. I have started thinking that the dreams I have just before waking up mean something in their own right.
In the dream, I was wearing a Navy uniform. I didn’t have anywhere to go though and seemed to be just walking around what I guess was a Navy installation. I decided to go into a building to ask if another Commander was still there even though I knew he wasn’t there. I spoke to a Navy enlisted person who appeared to be an Airman judging by his three green stripes although I couldn’t make out his rating symbol. He asked me a question but I didn’t hear his question and I asked him to repeat it by saying “Sir?” to him with an inquisitive tone. He asked me how I could not know that the other Commander was already deployed and I said something about how I just did not know. I left and walked down and out on some kind of spiral staircase, although that part isn’t that clear and I find myself wondering about that part. There was another spiral staircase ahead of me, there seemed to be dual staircases on either side of the front door to that
building, and a Lt. j.g. came down the other side. I want to say he was someone I should know but I can’t picture him as someone I knew. I want to say it was him that spoke something to me at that point but I also want to say the voice came from behind me. He said, or someone else said, something about me being “a little off.” I wondered if he meant that I was wrong about some of these details. Then I wondered if he meant I was a little crazy, but I think I started thinking that last one after I woke up. I think after he or someone said that, it made me start thinking about the uniform I was wearing. I found myself thinking after I awoke that it seemed to be a Marine Corps officers dress uniform. I seemed to be wearing the dark blue Marine uniform with white pants. But I am confused about one detail as it seemed I looked to my left shoulder and saw Navy shoulder boards with Captain stripes. Or was it just an epaulet, I am not sure, but there was a
pair of sunglasses clipped under it. I was walking down the sidewalk and there were two people ahead of me. One may have been that Lt. j.g. Another was a female officer, Navy I guess. Somewhere along there I realized I had forgotten to wear the appropriate cover for that uniform and realized that I was still wearing a ball cap, although I had actually taken it off as I went outside. I realized I couldn’t return anyone’s salute. Then I started thinking that the ball cap had USS Wainwright printed on it but I don’t remember actually looking at it and I may remember that detail in the sense that someone was reading details to me, they were telling me what the name was on the cap. I also remember that it had a frayed bill just like the Nike cap I have now. I remember I was walking very slowly. It was hard to walk and I was limping. I have thought several times before that if I do start wearing the uniform again, I should use a cane until I get my leg
back in better shape. Then I was in a parking garage and I had to cross a street into a parking lot, I guess to find my car.

WASHINGTON - A New Hampshire high school teacher, calling her planned flight aboard a January space shuttle mission "the ultimate field trip," was selected Friday from more than 11,000 applicants to become the first private citizen to travel into space.
Sharon Christa McAuliffe, 36, a social studies instructor at Concord High School in Concord, N.H., was chosen from a final field of 10 teachers, Vice President George Bush announced in a White House ceremony. Barbara R. Morgan, an elementary school teacher from McCall, Idaho, was chosen as a backup to McAuliffe.
McAuliffe said in her application to the National Aeronautics and Space Administration that she hoped to "humanize the technology of the Space Age" by keeping a journal of her experience and bringing the details home to both children and adults.
"I cannot join the space program and restart my life as an astronaut, but this opportunity to connect my abilities as an educator with my interests in history and space is a unique opportunity to fulfill my early fantasies," she wrote in the application.
McAuliffe will get that opportunity on a planned Jan. 22 flight of the shuttle Challenger, on which she will accompany five astronauts.

Halley's comet is the primary target of a major viewing and study project for the first space shuttle flight next year.
The United States is not sending a probe to the comet, but scientists have devised a wide range of experiments involving the space shuttle. The first of these is a big part of a flight scheduled for Jan. 22, 1986.
This also will be the first shuttle mission to carry a citizen passenger into space, schoolteacher Sharon Christa McAuliffe of Concord, N.H.
In addition to the science mission, Challenger will be used to launch the second tracking and data relay satellite for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration. Once this satellite is in position over the Pacific Ocean, NASA will be able to shut down many tracking stations now used to communicate with the shuttle.
Lead flight director Randy Stone said the seven-day flight is set for launch at 1:40 p.m. Houston time from Kennedy Space Center.
Members of the crew are commander Dick Scobee, pilot Michael Smith and mission specialists Ellison Onizuka, Ronald McNair and Judy Resnik. Payload specialists are Gregory Jarvis, a Hughes Aircraft Co. engineer, and McAuliffe.

"The successful launch rate and the excellent results demonstrate that the shuttle system matured in 1985," said Jesse Moore of NASA, director of the shuttle program.
The new year will start with a Jan. 22 launching that will feature teacher Christa McAuliffe of Concord, N.H., in the crew of seven. She was selected from more than 10,000 teachers who applied in a NASA private-citizens in space program. A journalist will be picked in April for a flight later in the year.
The teacher flight will be the first from a new shuttle launch pad here, doubling the launch capacity. It also will be the first of two missions to view Halley's comet, with the second slated in March.

Columbia is scheduled to land at Kennedy Space Center, the first landing there since last April.

CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. - The launch of Challenger with a schoolteacher passenger will be delayed one day until Sunday because sand is obscuring visibility at an emergency landing site in Africa, NASA announced, as bad weather once again disrupted the shuttle program.
Meanwhile, Columbia - racing to make up time lost by record delays in both its launch and landing - left Edwards Air Force Base, Calif., a day early on the start of its Boeing 747 ferry flight to Cape Canaveral.
Challenger's liftoff was rescheduled for 8:36 a.m. Houston time Sunday and added a second emergency landing site at Casablanca, Morocco, to the one at Dakar, Senegal, that is affected by the desert sand.
Earlier, NASA directed teacher Christa McAuliffe and her six crewmates to remain at the astronaut training center in Houston an extra day.
If the shuttle developed trouble a few minutes after liftoff the pilots would have to abort the mission, cross the Atlantic and land on a commercial airport runway in North Africa.
NASA also said the possibility of poor weather in Florida on Saturday played a role in the decision. Conditions were expected to be better on Sunday.
The crew includes McAuliffe, a 37-year-old high school social studies teacher, the first to fly in NASA's citizen-in-space program. She was selected for the flight from 11,146 teachers who applied.
During the fifth day of the six-day mission, she will teach two 15-minute lessons that will be beamed to classrooms in the United States and broadcast on television by Public Broadcasting Service.
The first lesson, titled "The Ultimate Field Trip," will take viewers on a tour of the shuttle and describe life in orbit. The second, "Where We've Been, Where We're Going," will explain why and how people use and explore space and will look to the future.
The other crew members are commander Dick Scobee, pilot Michael Smith, Judy Resnik, Ellison Onizuka, Ron McNair and Greg Jarvis. In addition to releasing the satellite to view Halley's comet, they will launch a powerful communications satellite to serve as part of NASA's worldwide shuttle tracking network.

Launch of the space shuttle Challenger was delayed today by problems with the door on the craft but officials still hoped to get the shuttle into space.
The door had two problems: First, technicians were unable to get the round hatch to close properly. Secondly, they were unable to remove a handle from outside the door.
The launch was delayed while technicians used a drill to remove a bolt so that they could take off the handle before flight.
Weather conditions at Kennedy Space Center cleared during the countdown although for a time the launch director was concerned over high winds four miles above the launch site. As the countdown proceeded, the winds abated making the launch possible.
Challenger, with a crew of seven, originally was scheduled for launch at 8:36 a.m. Houston time.
Mission highlights include the presence of high school teacher Christa McAuliffe, a detailed study of Halley's comet using a free-flying box of instruments, and the launch of the second satellite in the agency's new communication network.

IBM Personal Computer
The IBM Personal Computer, commonly known as the IBM PC, is the original version and progenitor of the IBM PC compatible hardware platform. It is IBM model number 5150, and was introduced on August 12, 1981. It was created by a team of engineers and designers under the direction of Don Estridge of the IBM Entry Systems Division in Boca Raton, Florida.
At the time, Don Estridge and his team considered using the IBM 801 processor and its operating system that had been developed at the Thomas J. Watson Research Center in Yorktown Heights, New York (The 801 is an early RISC microprocessor designed by John Cocke and his team at Yorktown Heights.) The 801 was at least an order of magnitude more powerful than the Intel 8088, and the operating system many years more advanced than the DOS operating system from Microsoft, that was finally selected.
The original PC had a version of Microsoft BASIC —IBM Cassette BASIC— in ROM.

Dr. Jeffrey "Jeff" Webber was a fictional character on the popular ABC daytime drama General Hospital. He was portrayed by Richard Dean Anderson from 1976 until 1981.
Character history
Dr. Jeff Webber was first introduced in the spring of 1976 when he arrived in Port Charles after graduating from medical school. Newlyweds Jeff and his wife Dr. Monica Bard Webber (Leslie Charleson) planned to join the staff of General Hospital following in the footsteps of Jeff's older brother, Rick Webber, who had reportedly been killed in a plane crash over Africa. Steve Hardy tapped the young married Webbers for a bold new experimental program at the hospital called Mr. and Mrs. Intern. For Steve, the Mr. and Mrs. Intern experiment was a noble gamble. He believed that Jeff and Monica were a perfect choice. It was six months into their marriage and Steve assumed they were ideally happy, but in actuality, their marriage was a wreck, and Jeff feared everyone at GH was comparing him to his dead brother, Rick. He missed his brother greatly, as did his wife Monica, who had once been engaged to Rick.
Suddenly, Rick appeared alive, revealing that he had been captured by African revolutionaries during a civil war and held prisoner for ten months.
