I remember well that day 2/1/2002. I was riding my bicycle from Bellevue, Washington, along the regular route I followed to the office I worked at in the Microsoft building in Issaquah, Washington. I was crossing a small bridge next to the Costco building in Issaquah and within sight of the Microsoft building when my bicycle literally flipped end-over-end and I went face first into the concrete sidewalk. I was left sprawled out on my back on the sidewalk among the wooded area of that bridge and dazed for a few minutes. I got up after a few minutes and rode my bicycle the remaining mile or so to the office and noticed a short time later that I had a black eye forming from where my left eye brow seemed to have hit the concrete just before my helmet absorbed the rest of the impact which was painful in itself to my head. I would later think that someone had caused that accident to happen and that it was something similar to that scene in the 1963 film "The
Great Escape" where Steve McQueen stretches the thin wire across the road to knock the German soldier off his motorcycle.
I thought about that 2/1/2002 accident more because the only other accident I had was a few weeks earlier on 12/23/2001 where my bicycle suddenly flipped out from under me. The road was icy but it didn't seem that icy. I also pondered over how December 23rd is Admiral Stockdale's birthday and I wondered if I had been targeted somehow for an accident that day.

Some time later I was riding along about 15 miles per hour on a bicycle trail in Redmond, Washington, and as I passed between two people walking in the opposite and the guy on my right side leaned in and shouldered me as I passed by him. The impact was much too great for it to be an accident. The force of the impact knocked me upright, knocked my shoe out of it clipped pedal, and knocked my hand on the handlebar. Even with that impact, I still managed to avoid crashing although I did veer abruptly into the othe side of the lane which would have caused another cyclists to run into me if one had been about to pass me at the time which happened often along that straight stretch. I believe it was only my excellent bicycle-handling skill that kept me from crashing and that the person who shouldered me was deliberately trying to cause me to crash while I was traveling at a high-speed. I dropped my bicycle onto the other side of the bicycle trail and I turned
around to see that the male who shouldered me was approaching me when my back was to him and I was about to stomp him into the pavement but he stopped walking just before the point I was going to use physical force to subdue him. I yelled at him for a few seconds and he did not make any further aggressive moves so I started thinking they might have staged that event around me because they had hidden cameras somewhere. The purpose would have simply to record me using physical force to subdue the aggressor without showing the video of him leaning in and shouldering me with the intent of inflicting on me serious bodily harm. There wasn't much else I could do and so, especially considering that I was then, as I am now, tasked with the primary duty of observing the criminal activity around me, so I continued riding my bicycle back to my apartment in Redmond and I considered filing a report at the Redmond city police department but I had already lost
confidence in the local police force of the cities in King County after my car had been stolen in Bellevue in 2001. I filed a police report but found that 3 days later that the car was sitting on the lower level of the parking garage because the thieves could not get it started and the police had obviously not even gone down there to look around. Earlier I had caught an employee of the apartment complex using a key to unlock my apartment and to enter my apartment at a time when they did not think I would be in my apartment.

I have written several times about those two bicycle crashes I had a few years ago. The first was on 12/23/2001 which left my shoulder injured for a few weeks afterwards. The second was on 2/1/2002 and gave me a black eye after I hit my head on the concrete sidewalk. I wondered for a while why I retained the dates of those two “accidents” for so long. As I wrote the other day, I think there is a date encoded in the “Military Education” section of my DD-214 and that it reflects Vice-Admiral Stockdale’s 68th birthday on 12/23/91. This morning I realized that when I had that bicycle crash on 12/23/2001, that was his 78th birthday.

We were somewhere, maybe in the Caribbean, and we were conducting a sonar exercise with one of our submarines. Navy commissions destroyer honoring Coronado's Stockdale

PORT HUENEME, Calif. — The U.S. Navy commissioned its newest guided-missile destroyer Saturday in a ceremony honoring Coronado's own Vice Adm. James Stockdale, the ship's namesake.
Four thousand folding chairs stood on the dock at the Naval Base Ventura County near Oxnard, in front of a gray behemoth there to be christened the USS Stockdale, in remembrance of one of the Navy's most highly decorated officers.
Most of those seats were filled before the hour-long ceremony began under a bright, cloudless sky at 11 a.m. Attendees reserved their loudest applause for the dozens of veterans and prisoners of war on hand, a group that included four Medal of Honor recipients.

Mars Odyssey has been orbiting the Red Planet since 2001, returning data and images of the Martian surface and providing relay communications service for Mars Rovers Spirit and Opportunity.

As a US Treasury agent he was charged with the task of bringing notorious Chicago crime boss Al Capone to justice in 1929. To that end he assembled a select team of nine agents nicknamed "The Untouchables", famous for the reputation that--unlike many law enforcement officers of the era--they could not be bought off or scared off. Contrary to popular belief, however, they were not directly involved in bringing up Capone on the income-tax evasion charges that finally sent him to prison. However, their war against Capone did cause a great deal of damage to his organization, and they had built up a formidable case against Capone involving various violations of the Volsted Act (Prohibiton), which were held in abeyance in the event that Capone managed to beat the tax evasion charges. Cowardice
Cowardice describes a personality trait which is typically viewed as a negative characteristic and has been generally frowned upon (see norms) within most, if not all global cultures, while courage, typically viewed as its direct opposite, is generally rewarded and encouraged.
"Cowardice" can be difficult to define outside of specific social contexts. In general terms, it is the perceived failure to demonstrate sufficient bravery in the face of an adverse situation. Cowards are usually seen to have avoided or refused to engage in a confrontation or struggle which has been deemed good or righteous by the wider culture in which they live.

According to the Online Etymology Dictionary, the word "coward" comes from an Old French word coart (modern French couard), a combination of the word for "tail" and an agent noun suffix. It would therefore have meant "one with a tail" — perhaps one in the habit of turning it, or it may be derived from the dog's habit of putting its tail between its legs when it is afraid.
