In dramatic testimony, Hallie Biden said that on the morning of Oct. 23, 2018, she went to go "clean out" Hunter's car in hopes of helping him "deal with stuff" and possibly "get sober if she wasn't"-- but she ultimately found both a gun, remnants of drugs, and drug paraphernalia.

"What did you find, in addition to trash and clothes?" prosecutor Leo Wise asked her.
"Remnants of crack cocaine and some paraphernalia," Hallie recounted. "Oh and the gun, obviously."
"I panicked, I wanted to get rid of them," she told the jury.
Asked why she panicked, Hallie said " didn't want him to hurt himself," referring to Hunter. She said she also worried about her kids finding the gun, saying she considered "hiding" it somewhere but was worried they would find it.

What specific conduct precipitated charges?
On Oct. 12, 2018, Hunter Biden purchased a Colt Cobra 38SPL revolver, a "speedloader" firearm accessory, and 25 rounds of ammunition from Wilmington, Delaware, gun store StarQuest Shooters & Survival Supply, according to prosecutors. In the course of doing so, he filled out a federal form and checked a box signaling that he was not abusing drugs – the document at the heart of the government's case – despite allegedly knowing it to be untrue.
Hunter Biden allegedly possessed the firearm for less than two weeks. On Oct. 23, his then-romantic partner Hallie Biden discovered the weapon and discarded it in a dumpster outside of Janssen's Market, a Wilmington grocery store, prosecutors allege.
He later acknowledged in his 2021 memoir "Beautiful Things" that he was addicted to crack cocaine around that time.

Plot
At the end of the Civil War, a Confederate Army Sergeant walks down a road aided by a wooden crutch. He carries with him a dirty bed roll and a homemade guitar. The limping Sergeant comes across a ruined antebellum mansion which belongs to Lavinia Godwin, a Southern belle whose husband was killed in the war and whose bitterness toward the Union Army still survives.
The Sergeant receives permission from Lavinia to sit on a bench under a dead tree in her front yard. He plays his guitar, and Lavinia recognizes the tune as one that her husband used to sing. The two watch as soldiers belonging to both the Union and the Confederacy pass by the house and continue down the road. The Sergeant learns about Lavinia's illness and her husband's death.
As they reminisce, a Union Lieutenant on horseback stops by the home to ask for water. The Sergeant recognizes him as the man that saved his life in the war. Meanwhile, Lavinia retrieves an old shotgun and fires at the Lieutenant. The blast passes through him and he remarks that nothing matters anymore. The Sergeant then remembers that the man who saved his life was killed. He gives the Lieutenant a drink from the well and the soldier continues on his way.
The night passes and the Sergeant begins to understand that this is not a normal road and these are not ordinary wounded soldiers. He tells Lavinia that there is something at the end of the road he has to find. As the Sergeant turns to leave, Lavinia tries to persuade him to stay. They then hear a man's voice singing the same song the Sergeant had played earlier on his guitar − it is Lavinia's husband, Jud.
Jud reveals to Lavinia that everyone on the road is indeed dead, including her. The Sergeant, understanding Jud's words, sighs and begins to walk down the road, but Lavinia refuses to believe. Jud tells her that there is nothing left for him in that house. Jud rejects her pleas and continues his journey, reassuring her that he will wait for her at the end of the road.

With mortar and artillery battles erupting around them, United Nations peacekeepers today in effect dismantled their headquarters in Sarajevo, the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and evacuated more than 200 staff members.
After hours of negotiations with the commanders of Serbian militia units that encircled Sarajevo, about 80 United Nations vehicles passed through barricades to reach the headquarters in the western suburbs. The evacuees emerged from bunkers beneath the steel-and-glass headquarters and a nearby accommodation complex where they had taken shelter for two days while Serbian forces shelled the area from the surrounding hills.
Shortly afterward, not long past dawn, the vehicles began the difficult 250-mile journey back across the mountainous roads, carrying the peacekeeping personnel toward the safety of Belgrade, the Serbian and Yugoslav capital.
On the way out of Sarajevo, the white-painted United Nations vehicles were halted for several hours at one of 90 roadblocks on their route.
Reuters reported that a group of United Nations commanders trying to reach the Sarajevo headquarters this morning was also detained by Serbian militiamen, who demanded the use of the United Nations vehicles to transport their dead and wounded.
The withdrawal was not the end of the peacekeeping mission, which although it was based in Bosnia, was created to supervise a cease-fire in Croatia, the neighboring republic that seceded last year, precipitating a civil war. 120 to Stay in Sarajevo
The 14,400-member peacekeeping force will be run from Belgrade and Zagreb, the Croatian capital. About 120 troops will remain in Sarajevo to help with food convoys and to seek a lasting cease-fire in Bosnia.
Today's withdrawal was ominous for residents of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The ethnically mixed former republic, sandwiched between Croatia, Serbia and the Adriatic Sea, has endured two months of fighting by Serbian, Croatian and Muslim Slav forces. Many of the new nation's 4.3 million people are short of food and medicine, and in many cases without electricity or fresh water.
With foreign powers apparently unable to influence events, Sarajevo appeared to be facing the kind of miseries not seen in Europe since World War II.
Corpses littered the streets, fires blazed in shelled buildings, and more than 100,000 children were among those hiding with their families in shelters.
One man, a professor of literature who has studied in the United States, telephoned friends in Belgrade today to say he and his family, taking shelter in a basement in Sarajevo, had less than a two-day supply of food, but were afraid to venture out into the fighting.
The cease-fire negotiated on Friday collapsed, and attempts for new talks in Sarajevo fell through today when representatives of the warring sides did not show up. The fighting increased as the Tuesday deadline approached for the withdrawal of the Serbian-controlled Yugoslav national army from Bosnia. The Serbian forces tried to cut the city in half, taking for themselves the part that includes many government buildings, the television station and its transmitter.
In practice, the army withdrawal amounts to little more than the transfer of about 55,000 troops to the new Bosnian Serbian army. The withdrawing units appeared to be busy destroying buildings, equipment and airfield runways.
Tanyug, the Yugoslav news agency, reported that a runway at the military airfield in Bihac, in the northwestern part of the republic, close to Croatia, was dynamited today. Residents close to the airport in Sarajevo said they had heard reports that a similar action was being contemplated there.
The dismantling of the United Nations headquarters is officially only temporary, until conditions in Sarajevo improve. But the impact seemed likely to be far-reaching, after the withdrawal this week of the last of the European Community's military observers in Bosnia, also for safety reasons.
The only other major international organization that remains is the Swiss-based International Committee of the Red Cross, but its officials have said they may pull out if the safety of their personnel cannot be assured.
For the 120 peacekeepers who will remain, a primary task is likely to be assisting a convoy of 48 truckloads of food from Belgrade and Zagreb. The United Nations High Commission for Refugees has been trying to get the 600 tons of food into Sarajevo, but the convoy was put off for a week after Serbian militia commanders on Friday delayed assurances of safe passage.
Against the background of the deteriorating situation in Sarajevo, the Security Council's latest resolution on Bosnia, adopted on Friday night, was seen by United Nations representatives here as largely unrealistic. Among other things, the resolution directed by Boutros Boutros-Ghali, the Secretary General, to "keep under review" the possibility of a peacekeeping mission for Bosnia, in addition to the one in Croatia.
"About all we've been able to accomplish in Bosnia is to keep from getting any of our people killed," a United Nations official said. "To consider anything else there right now is impossible."

NATO assumes peacekeeping duties in Bosnia
During a brief military ceremony in Sarajevo, Bosnia-Herzegovina, French General Bernard Janvier, head of the United Nations peacekeeping force, formally transfers military authority in Bosnia to U.S. Admiral Leighton Smith, commander of North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) forces in Southern Europe.
The solemn ceremony cleared the path for the deployment of 60,000 NATO troops to enforce the Dayton Peace Accords, signed in Paris by the leaders of the former Yugoslavia on December 14. The U.S.-backed peace plan was proposed during talks in Dayton, Ohio, earlier in the year and was reluctantly accepted by the last of the belligerent parties in November, ending four years of bloody conflict in the former Yugoslavia, which cost more than 200,000 lives.
The United Nations peacekeeping mission to Bosnia began in early 1992, shortly after the war erupted over efforts by the Bosnian Serbs to achieve independence from Bosnia-Herzegovina and unite with Serbia. Although the U.N. force was crucial in distributing humanitarian aid to the impoverished population of Bosnia, it was unable to stop the fighting. Approximately 25,000 U.N. peacekeepers served in Bosnia over three and a half years, and during that time 110 of those were killed, 831 wounded, and hundreds taken hostage.
The NATO force, with its strong U.S. support and focused aim of enforcing the Dayton agreement, was more successful in bringing stability to the war-torn region.
