This Is What I Think.

by me, Kerry Burgess, 06/25/2026 12:59 PM

Two items of interest in mainstream-media and because there is "more to every story" I am "connecting the dots" to make it mean what I want it to mean.

On 6/23/2026, the USA congress released the transcripts of their conversation with Bill Gates. The CBS News presented the equivalent of a "mug shot" of that repugnant female, posing as a male, which it never was.

On 6/23/2026, jury deliberations began and despite branded as a pathological-liar by the trial prosecutor in the Spokane courtroom, the former Spokane County sheriff's deputy Clay Hilton was quickly found not-guilty by a jury for excessively beating the bejesus out of a guy suspected of a minor-offense

Because of words spoken by Hilton's attorney during tv-news coverage of the trial, I am looking closer at this. I looked back through my notes and see I already examined this calendar-day 06/23/2026 for another reason, with no thought at the time of the two items described above this line. I am trying to forget some stuff that doesn't seem to be helping me to remember. Going back into it because it is a legacy of this blog by me and my blog-posts here.

Another point in the trial coverage, they broadcast a video they say is after the trial was over. The defendant, cleared of the prosecutor's charges, is shown with his back to the camera. Apparently to me, he is not aware the camera is recording the interaction, what strikes me about the demeanor of the trial prosecutor is that while he seems to be speaking to the former defendant, seems to me the prosecutor is avoiding eye-contact as the former defendant stands there looking directly at him.

from my private journal as Kerry Burgess: July 29, 2006

When Tavener showed me that video back in July 2002, I told Vince later that I wanted to kick his ass but it would as easy as beating up a little girl and I didn't find any thing comforting about that.

1954 Army-McCarthy Hearings

During the peak of the Red Scare, when Americans worried about the spread of world communism, Wisconsin Sen. Joseph McCarthy heightened people's fears with his allegations that hundreds of Communists had infiltrated the State Department.

Using his platform as chairman of the Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations, McCarthy conducted several hearings hoping to purge the federal government of alleged Communists and Soviet spies.

McCarthy then turned his accusations toward the Army, where he conducted nationally-televised hearings lasting from April until June of 1954.

On June 9, 1954, during one of the sessions, a dramatic moment occurred between McCarthy and Joseph Welch, the lawyer representing the Army in the hearings. McCarthy accused one of Welch's attorneys of harboring ties to a Communist organization.

"Until this moment, Senator, I think I never really gauged your cruelty or your recklessness," Welch shot back, defending his employee. "Let us not assassinate this lad further, senator. You have done enough."

On this day: The Senate censures Joseph McCarthy

December 2, 2020 | by NCC Staff

December 2nd is a landmark day in Senate history, marking that chamber’s historic censure of Joseph McCarthy for his conduct during public hearings.

A censure is a public rebuke of a member by the Senate as a body and not the expulsion of a Senator. But a censure vote can have a powerful effect on a Senator’s public image and his or her ability to participate in Senate decisions.

The constitutional precedent for the censure motion comes from Article 1, Section 5, Clause 2, which says that “each House may determine the Rules of its Proceedings, punish its Members for disorderly behavior, and, with the Concurrence of two thirds, expel a Member.”

However, there is nothing in the Constitution about Congress having the ability to pass a censure motion against a member of another branch of the government. And the word “censure” doesn’t appear in the Constitution.

In McCarthy’s case, his political power had gone mostly unchallenged since 1950, when he made a Lincoln Day speech in West Virginia, claiming that Communists had infiltrated the State Department.

“I have in my hand 57 cases of individuals who would appear to be either card-carrying members or certainly loyal to the Communist Party, but who nevertheless are still helping to shape our foreign policy,” McCarthy reportedly said. (There is some dispute about the actual number of alleged Communists he cited in the live speech.)

McCarthy’s controversial remarks found welcoming ears in those early Cold War years. Republican leaders appointed McCarthy as chairman of the Senate Committee on Government Operations in 1953, which included the Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations.

Later that year, McCarthy pressed for hearings on Communist infiltration into the U.S. Army. But in 1954, the Senate Subcommittee on Investigations held its own hearings about accusations exchanged between McCarthy and the Army. The hearings were watched on TV by more than 20 million Americans.

In a dramatic moment, Army counsel Joseph Welch lashed out at McCarthy after the senator refused to produce a list of Communists and instead attacked a young attorney on Welch’s staff who wasn’t at the hearing.

“Senator; you’ve done enough. Have you no sense of decency, sir? At long last, have you left no sense of decency?” Welch said to an ovation from the Senate gallery.

By the summer of 1954, the Senate decided to take action against McCarthy. On July 30, 1954, Ralph Flanders, a Republican, introduced a censure motion that his conduct as chairman of the Senate’s Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations was “contrary to senatorial traditions.”

McCarthy verbally abused some of his colleagues during hearings that started in August. The Senate then reconvened in a lame-duck session after the November election to consider two charges. And McCarthy again attacked committee members who leveled the challenges. But Republican Arthur Watkins of Utah, who led the selected committee, spoke about how McCarthy violated the Senate’s dignity.

On December 2, 1954, the Senate voted on a motion said that McCarthy “acted contrary to senatorial ethics and tended to bring the Senate into dishonor and disrepute, to obstruct the constitutional processes of the Senate, and to impair its dignity; and such conduct is hereby condemned.” The motion passed by a 67-22 vote.

The effective punishment came against McCarthy in a separate motion, where he lost a key committee chairmanship.

But after December 2nd, McCarthy faded away as a major player in national politics.

Address to the Nation on National Security

February 26, 1986

One cannot sit in this office reviewing intelligence on the military threat we face, making decisions from arms control to Libya to the Philippines, without having that concern for America's security weigh constantly on your mind. We know that peace is the condition under which mankind was meant to flourish. Yet peace does not exist of its own will. It depends on us, on our courage to build it and guard it and pass it on to future generations. George Washington's words may seem hard and cold today, but history has proven him right again and again. ``To be prepared for war,'' he said, ``is one of the most effective means of preserving peace.'' Well, to those who think strength provokes conflict, Will Rogers had his own answer. He said of the world heavyweight champion of his day: ``I've never seen anyone insult Jack Dempsey.''

Hilton was charged with second-degree assault and false swearing after an August 2023 arrest, where prosecutors say he beat Kevin Hinton so badly the jail wouldn't book him.

"There's no question, my client did exactly what he was trained to do," said Hershman after the verdict was handed down. "He did exactly what was within the bounds of the law to do. The complaining witness in this case resisted, put my client's welfare in jeopardy, and he reacted appropriately."

WA’s transgender prisoner policy is target of new federal investigation

May 19, 2026 Updated Tue., May 19, 2026 at 6:47 p.m.

By Jake Goldstein-Street

Washington State Standard

The Trump administration on Tuesday launched an investigation into Washington state’s practice of housing transgender women in its women’s prison.

In a letter to Gov. Bob Ferguson, the U.S. Department of Justice cited allegations that the Washington Corrections Center for Women in Gig Harbor has “failed to protect female prisoners from sexual and physical violence, harassment, voyeurism, and intimidation from male prisoners who identify as female.”

The Justice Department argued this could violate the Eighth Amendment to the Constitution’s protections against cruel and unusual punishment. The Washington State Constitution also prohibits cruel conditions specifically for prisoners.

The inquiry follows a lawsuit filed last month against the state by a woman held at the Gig Harbor women’s prison, alleging a transgender woman physically attacked her. The woman alleged several other transgender women were held at the prison.

“This is not a case where he was defending himself," said Yakima County Deputy Prosecutor Joe Brown. "This is not a case where he was using force lawfully. This is a case where he lost control.”

The case is being tried by the Yakima County Prosecuting Attorney's Office, the same one that investigated Hilton's conduct during the arrest and charged him with assault and false swearing, after then-Spokane County Prosecuting Attorney Larry Haskell passed on the investigation. It marks the first time a Spokane County Sheriff's deputy has been charged with a crime committed on duty.

Defense attorney Bryan Hershman argued that Kevin Hinton's actions were criminal and defiant during the arrest.

Hershman maintains Hilton's actions were a reasonable use of force and consistent with his law enforcement training. He's expected to claim self-defense at trial.

"You’re going to see a polite and professional law enforcement officer dealing with a belligerent and dismissive gentleman. A good size gentleman at that, taller than my client," Hershman told jurors during his opening remarks.

"It is a crime to be in the park after hours. This is considered the park," the sergeant says. "Alright, I'll go find another place to watch a movie," the 62-year-old responds."

I woke up this morning and I guess I had just then been dreaming about a story I was writing about those two. I was feeling as though the details were something I had been thinking of before I awoke. I awoke thinking about how if there were ever in this world two little kids that needed firearms then those are the two. I thought about how little Alex had an Uzi and he opened up on Susan Smith with that Uzi and he ripped a full clip at her and that stupid kid only hit the cat nearby on the floor which exploded into a big splatter of blood and hair over the wall and he got Susan in the foot with one bullet from that full magazine but that isn't surprising because 15-month-old kids can't aim firearms very well and Michael was banging away at her with a pair of Colt .45 semiautomatic pistols and he emptied both clips and only got her in the leg one time. So I don't know what I was dreaming of. Maybe that was something from part of something I wrote a long time ago after I found those kids in the lake.

Carter Announces Bosnia Cease-Fire Agreement : Balkans: Truce begins Friday, he says after shaky start with rebel Serbs. Diplomats remain skeptical.

December 21, 1994 DEAN E. MURPHY TIMES STAFF WRITER

SARAJEVO, Bosnia-Herzegovina — The Bosnian Serbs and the Muslim-led Bosnian government have agreed to begin a cease-fire on Friday as a small first step toward ending the 32-month civil war, former President Jimmy Carter announced Tuesday.

The modest agreement--one of many proposed cease-fires over the course of the war--came after an unscheduled second round of meetings between Carter and the Bosnian Serb leadership in nearby Pale. Carter called the extra session after conflicting claims about the results of their high-profile talks on Monday threatened to sink his entire peace mission.

Carter announced Monday that Bosnian Serb leader Radovan Karadzic had agreed to an immediate cease-fire, but Karadzic backed away from the claim a few hours later.

The Bosnian government was so angered by the theatrics that President Alija Izetbegovic refused to meet with Carter when he returned to Sarajevo late Monday, choosing to make the former U.S. President wait until morning, sources said.

"We have had this character 2 1/2 years, and he lies every day," said Bosnian Vice President Ejup Ganic, referring to Karadzic. "Make sure that you know with whom you deal."

Carter, said to be alarmed and betrayed by Karadzic's antics on Monday, made Tuesday's cease-fire announcement in Pale standing shoulder to shoulder with him.

After driving the mountainous road to Sarajevo, Carter repeated the announcement at the airport en route to Belgrade, where he plans to hold talks with Serbian leaders.

"There will be a complete cease-fire in all of Bosnia-Herzegovina, including Bihac, to go into effect at noon on Dec. 23," Carter said. "This cease-fire is to be completely monitored, without interference, by UNPROFOR (U.N. Protection Force) troops, interposing themselves between the opposing military units wherever necessary."
