Before Spokane Mayor Dave Condon cut the ribbon Saturday to signal the reopening of the revamped Looff Carrousel, hundreds of post-Junior Lilac Parade patrons strolling through Riverfront Park were given a quick history lesson.
On a jumbo screen near the Carrousel, a short video clicked through highlights in the city’s history. “It’s your turn to take a ride back into Spokane history,” said Spokane Parks director Leroy Eadie, speaking from the screen.
The Carrousel is indeed one of Spokane’s older artifacts, having arrived in Spokane in 1909, retired halfway through the century only to be brought back after Expo ’74. Now, housed in a new $7 million glass rotunda, it is a highlight of the recent redevelopment in Riverfront Park.
Since the Carrousel’s closure last year, the ride has been repainted and refurbished, a feature that impressed carousel expert and consultant Bette Largent.
“This is one of the best openings I’ve seen,” Largent told the crowd. “Spokane has set a precedent for carousels.”
Hundreds rode the steeds Saturday, the sunny skies and nearby festivities boosting the opening. Rides cost $2.
The Looff Carrousel features 54 horses, two Chinese Dragon chairs, a giraffe, a tiger and a and a go-round version of ring-toss.
“This has been a special place with memories for thousands of people in the Spokane area, including myself,” Condon said. “And that will continue.”

The first time I published details about 25 December 1991 was on 09 May 2011 so that doesn't really fit in with the pattern I am trying to narrow down. But I was still using the tag "From 11/2/1965 ( date hijacked from me:the birth date in Antlers Oklahoma USA of the known official Deputy United States Marshal Kerry Wayne Burgess & my birthdate as legally bound" during that time period in May 2011 and that was because I was still thinking I might be Thomas Reagan or some other completely different person, some other third person, a clone of the original Kerry Wayne Burgess.
The date 28 May 2011, as best I can tell, is the day I dropped all pretenses and took out that "as legally bound" crap.
So, I don't know. I don't know what to expect.
I am more certain that if I write that something will *not* happen then I feel certain that will come true.
The power is in making true observations.

In the United States Army, the United States Air Force and the United States Marine Corps, lieutenant general (abbreviated Lt Gen in the Air Force, LtGen in the Marine Corps and LTG in the Army) is a three-star general officer rank, with the pay grade of O-9. Lieutenant general ranks above major general and below general. Lieutenant general is equivalent to the rank of vice admiral in the other uniformed services.
Appointment and tour length
The three-star grade goes hand-in-hand with the position of office to which it is linked, so the rank is temporary. Douglas MacArthur, who served as four-star general and Army Chief of Staff, reverted to two stars after his CoS tour ended but chose to stay on active duty in the United States Army.
The practice of using lieutenant general and general grades as a temporary rank continues, with the President and the Department of Defense creating temporary or indefinite three and four-star assignments, with fixed term of office, with the approval of the Senate. Even with the temporary status, such officers are also almost always granted permanent retirement in the last grade they held with the satisfactory completion of at least two or three years in grade.

THE MEDIUM altitude shot fired this morning off Johnston Island concludes our present atmospheric test series in the Pacific. Underground nuclear weapons tests, free from fall-out, are continuing in Nevada.
I hope that in the next months we can conclude an effective test ban treaty, so that the world can be free from all testing. Agreement in this area would be an important first step toward our continuing goal of workable disarmament arrangements which can cut down the threat of war. Last March 2 I offered to stop further nuclear tests, if the Soviet Union would accept an effectively verified test ban treaty. This offer still stands. We shall devote our best efforts to conclude such a treaty and hope all others will do the same.
