“Know your audience” are words to live by for any political figure, and that mantra applies, too, to what they choose to wear for public outings.
After wearing a bevy of designer labels during the Inaugural weekend, First Lady Melania Trump headed for California in a considerably more relatable outfit. The former model was photographed leaving the White House wearing a black watch cap, an olive green hooded Rag & Bone puffer jacket, black Levi’s jeans and Xappeal black lace-up boots. While some critics were still debating why Melania Trump wore a wide-brimmed Eric Javits hat with her Adam Lippes-designed navy silk wool crepe suit for her husband’s swearing-in ceremony, FLOTUS sported a different form of deflection Friday — wearing a pair of gold-rimmed sunglasses before departing from Joint Base Andrews. (The shades were said to be from Victoria Beckham not Ray-Ban’s “Aviator” style, which former President Joe Biden favored.)

The dressed-down look was suitable, given that they were headed to North Carolina, a state that had reportedly faced $60 billion in damages caused by Hurricane Helene. The second stop on the Trumps’ tour Friday would be California, where the total amount of damage and economic loss is upward of $250 billion, according to a new Accuweather report.
While Melania Trump noticeably toned down her dress code Friday, another first lady was known to never go that route. The former first lady Imelda Marcos, once declared, “Never dress down for the poor. They won’t respect you for it. They want their first lady to look like a million dollars,” according to Beatriz Romualdez Francia’s book “Imelda: A Story of the Philippines.” (Marcos wasn’t just a clotheshorse, she also was said to have owned 3,000 pairs of shoes.)
Choosing the right footwear matters, too, for first ladies, as Donald Trump made clear Monday, by stating publicly that his wife’s feet “hurt,” during the presidential parade. Manolo Blahnik 5-inch stilettos are usually her go-to kicks for major photo ops. In 2017, Michelle Obama learned a different lesson in choosing the right shoes. The former first lady faced some criticism for wearing $540 Lanvin sneakers for a visit to a Washington, D.C. food bank.
But back to the Trumps. Upon landing in Asheville, N.C. and being briefed about the recovery efforts for Hurricane Helene, President Trump and the first lady planned to meet with displaced families in Swannanoa, N.C. The unincorporated community of approximately 5,000 residents was severely damaged. The Asheville Christian Academy there had between $11 million and $15 million worth of damage. State officials reportedly pegged the total of the hurricane’s damage for western North Carolina public schools to be about $85 million.
For the second part of the day, the Trumps were bound for California, where the president was to be briefed about the Pacific Palisades. While the media has covered how celebrities like Paris Hilton, Mel Gibson and Anthony Hopkins lost their homes in the fires, nearly 15,900 residential properties were within the designated fire boundaries of the Palisades and Eaton Fires, with a total value of $40.3 billion. And the median value of a home inside the Palisades Fire zone was $3 million, according to a new Realtor.com report.
After an evening briefing about the Los Angeles fires, the Trumps planned to wing it to Las Vegas for an overnighter at the Trump International Hotel.

I told her we needed to keep it really casual though because all I had to wear was sweatpants. Kind of the downside to dating a homeless person I reflect now as I write this. She told me she would wear something with holes in it. I hope that was her in my dream, although the woman in the dream seemed to be someone unfamilar though. But I have noticed that happening with other people I know. They are represented, somehow, by a different person, but I think of them as someone specific. I feel like that is part of the manipulation. I have noticed something similar in real dreams, but I don't think it is the same here. I think they are disquising themselves in my dream for some reason. Anyway, if it really was her, she actually doesn't have to worry about dressing down if we were to go out. Of course, if I have my way, it would be a moot point because why would I want to go out with her when I am in such an ugly situation? At the minimum, I would want to be back to work so that I have regained some independence. And hey, next time you are in my dreams, dear imaginary girlfriend, how about wearing a bikini? Red would be good, or yellow maybe. That would be sweet!

You know what's confusing me? I thought about this for a couple minutes and my confusion must be from hallucinations.
I would have sworn I wrote in my journal about the night I put the medals in her purse without her seeing me do it. Maybe I did write about it and now I can't find it again. I don't know. I can still visualize it.
I think I am visualizing a series of thoughts from a few years ago, back in the year 2011. I keep seeing myself in Columbia in the year 1997 and I was recently promoted to lieutenant colonel and I was wearing the uniform of the United States Marine Corps and I still can visualize that line of thought of the last words I said to her when I put on my cover as I walked to the door and left and I went to Fort Jackson and I never came back.

U.S. District Court Judge Aileen Cannon, who is presiding over former President Donald Trump's classified documents case in Florida, issued an order to special counsel Jack Smith's office Tuesday scolding the prosecutors for not providing access to classified materials to the defense in an "accredited facility" within the Southern District of Florida, MSNBC's Katie Phang reports. The order follows the prosecution and defense's squabble this week over the case's discovery process, during which both parties exchange records about witnesses and evidence they may present at trial, according to The Messenger.
In a Sunday night filing, Trump's attorneys said Smith's office had not yet made around 2,400 pages of classified discovery available for review in the district and asked for an extension to file additional motions. Prosecutors, who have provided over 1.3 million pages of unclassified records in the case, partially objected to the extension request Tuesday. While they did not reject a 10-day extension regarding classified records, of which the case involves thousands of pages, they did oppose any motion to extend deadlines for unclassified discovery motions.
Experts criticized Cannon's order online. "Shouldn t we just refer to her as Trump defense counsel Cannon?" Norman Ornstein, an emeritus scholar at the American Enterprise Institute, said on X, formerly Twitter. "I'm trying to think of a single time in a case involving classified information that my convenience or proximity to access to the relevant [sensitive compartmented information facility] was a consideration," national security lawyer Bradley Moss added. Phang pointed out that Cannon also recently scolded a prosecutor on Smith's team in Trump co-defendant Walt Nauta's contentious conflict-of-interest hearing that was rescheduled for Friday. "I am interested to see how Judge Cannon reacts to the DOJ at this hearing on Friday." Phang tweeted. "Her very visible irritation and dressing-down of the Special Counsel s team last week was remarkable, to say the least."

I started thinking this morning about a jacket I used to wear long ago. I bought it around the time Lynn and I started bicycling, which I think was in 1999. I wore that jacket every time I went cycling and some parts of it were green and other parts blue. I remember one time, after I had been wearing it for a long time, I noticed that the logo emblem on one side of the chest was labeled as "Brooks." I can remember feeling something like surprise that it was labeled "Brooks."
