I find myself thinking about this time a long time ago. I may have been in the 4th grade at the time, I don't remember. One of us, maybe me, accidentally made up the fold-out sofa bed with the dog still in it. She stayed in there all day. I came home from school and sat down on the sofa wondering where she was. Then I started hearing her faintly crying out, but I couldn't tell where the sound was coming from. This other neighbor kid was sitting on the couch too, we had to have been crushing her. Eventually I realized she was inside the couch and let her out. She jumped out and ran to the water bowl. I can certainly understand how that dog must have felt.

Computerworld — Malware has managed to get off the planet and onto the International Space Station, NASA confirmed today. And it's not the first time that a worm or virus has stowed away on a trip into orbit.
The attack code, which space news site SpaceRef.com identified Monday as "W32.Gammima.AG," infected at least one of the laptops used on the station, an international effort headlined by the U.S. and Russia. NASA spokesman Kelly Humphries declined to identify the malware, saying only that anti-virus software detected a worm on July 25.

Stowaway computer virus sent into orbit

Nasa has confirmed that computer viruses have made it into space, after finding that computers on board the International Space Station were harbouring a malicious worm.
The worm, known as W32.Gammima.AG, was found on laptops used by astronauts to relay e-mail to mission control in Texas. Nasa said that the infected computers were not linked to any of the space station’s control systems or to the internet.
“The bottom line is it is a nuisance for us,” Kelly Humphries, a Nasa spokesman, said. “The crew is working with teams on the ground to eradicate the virus and look for actions to prevent that from happening in the future.”
Mr Humphries said that the virus had no effect on the running of the space station, which orbits 217 miles above the Earth.
W32.Gammima.AG is described as low risk by Symantec, the online security company, which said that the worm spreads through removable storage devices. This has led to speculation that astronauts introduced the virus onto the space station on a memory stick carrying photographs, music or other data.
The virus lurks on infected computers, monitoring keystrokes and scouring the system for online gaming passwords. Without an internet connection, it would have no way of relaying information it found to its creators.
Gammima.AG was first detected in August last year and appears to have taken nearly a year to escape the Earth’s gravitational pull. It was detected on board the space station on July 25

Hope faded Thursday of finding 11 missing offshore workers alive as the sun set on a second day of searching and the massive drilling rig that exploded into flames late Tuesday night sank into the Gulf of Mexico.
With the fire doused and the rig submerged, the Coast Guard launched a sweeping effort to clean up petroleum spewed into the water and seal off a well at the sea floor that may have still been leaking oil.
As it did, investigations began and questions continued to swirl about the cause of the accident at the Deepwater Horizon, a half-billion-dollar rig owned and operated by Swiss-based Transocean that was under lease to BP.
