Secret Service Official To Head Navy Probe Unit

Roy Nedrow, director of Secret Service investigations, has been chosen director of the embattled Navy Criminal Investigative Service, the Navy said Thursday.
Nedrow, 50, has been with the Secret Service for 22 years. Before joining the Secret Service, he was a police officer in Berkeley, Calif.
Acting Navy Secretary Sean O'Keefe reorganized the service Sept. 24 and began looking for a new director because of controversy over some of its investigations, particularly the one involving the Tailhook sex harassment scandal.
Navy investigators said they were unable to identify more than a few of the Navy pilots accused of molesting women in a Las Vegas hotel hallway at the Tailhook convention last year because the fliers and their officers refused to cooperate.

Political Flak May Fly With President's New Jet

WASHINGTON - How do you hide a $330 million airplane? One that weighs 836,000 pounds, features an operating room, 85 telephones and a main deck that rivals the size of a fancy home?
You don't. And that's a potential problem for the White House and President Bush's political advisers.
The new Air Force One, a giant Boeing 747-200B with all those features and many more, was quietly delivered to Andrews Air Force Base just outside Washington late yesterday afternoon.

KENNEBUNKPORT, Maine - The government took delivery Thursday of the jumbo jet that will become Air Force One - a longer-range craft that seems destined to feed President Bush's peripatetic nature.
"Look out world, here we come," said White House spokesman Marlin Fitzwater as he announced delivery of the specially outfitted Boeing 747 to the Air Force.
"This thing doesn't go extraterrestrial, does it?" Fitzwater jokingly asked aides.
Fitzwater said the cost of the two planes, which will bristle with security and intelligence equipment, and the new hangar at Andrews will cost $410 million on a fixed-price contract with Boeing.

LOS ANGELES -- Mounting evidence links former football star O.J. Simpson to the slayings of his former wife and a man who was a waiter at a trendy Brentwood restaurant, Los Angeles police sources said Tuesday.
Much of the investigation Tuesday was focused on bloodstains -- both at Simpson's Brentwood mansion and at his former wife's townhouse two miles away, where the crime was committed late Sunday.
Police officers also combed Simpson's Tudor-style home for clues, taking away a pair of running shoes and towing a Ford Bronco parked outside.

Police said Tuesday that Nicole Simpson and Goldman, a waiter at a Brentwood restaurant she frequented, were not linked romantically. Friends said he apparently was just in the wrong place at the wrong time, returning a pair of glasses she had left at the restaurant, when the attack occurred.
Neither the coroner's office nor police would release further details about the nature of the stab wounds or the weapons used to inflict them, but a source close to the investigation said the woman's throat was slashed and Goldman's wounds
