Stargate SG-1 - "Children of the Gods" - tv series premiere Season 1 Episode 1 - 07/27/1997
Episode Summary
The System Lord Apophis launches an attack through the Stargate, tucked away by the military after the events of the movie, and the SGC program is reactivated and given a new objective - seek out and find the alien invaders and defeat them. Jack O'Neill is called out of retirement and sent to locate Daniel Jackson on Abydos.

Cheyenne Mountain Complex, the Stargate embarkation room. Fade in on an aerial shot of the Gate room, which is largely unused; all the equipment in the control room is covered in tarps, as is the equipment in the actual embarkation room itself. Near the left exit, a card table is set up, and four Air Force non-commissioned officers, three male and one female, are playing poker. A fifth crosses the room to join them. One man is dealing, and another is holding a thick cigar in his teeth.
DEALER: Oh, man, this hand's as lousy as this detail. (The fifth player sits down.) All right, everybody in or out. Chips are tossed into the center. The camera closes in on the table, moving into an overhead shot, looking straight down at the card game.
SMOKER: Not you, too.
As the non-commissioned officer dealing deals out the cards, the camera turns, the table seeming to spin as he goes around to each player.
DEALER: Seven to the deuce, nothin' there ... boss on the eight, nothing happening ... queen to the king, possible straight goin' there ... eight on the eight, and the jack gets a box. Eight's open.
The camera pans down as he deals the final card, focusing on the lone female non-commissioned officer, an attractive blonde, at the table. Behind her, covered by a gray tarp, is the inactive Stargate.
WOMAN: Aren't you guys afraid of an officer coming down here or something?
SMOKER: Trust me. Nobody ever comes down here but us.
Behind the tarp, something stirs ever so slightly. The female non-commissioned officer notices, and starts in surprise.
WOMAN: Does that thing always do that?
DEALER: (not looking up from his cards) Do what?
WOMAN: Whatever it is under the tarp! I just... (glances back at it briefly) saw it move or do something!
SMOKER: Probably the only thing it ever did was cost money.

The hoaxes perpetuated against President Donald J. Trump and his administration never stop, and today was no exception.
HOAX: A score of Fake News outlets, including Axios, CNN, The Washington Post, The New York Times, and many others, claimed President Trump's directive to temporarily pause certain federal spending was "rescinded."
FACT: No such thing took place. Instead, a memo from the Office of Management and Budget was rescinded in an effort to alleviate confusion — and Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt confirmed President Trump's order remains "in full force and effect, and will be rigorously implemented" as the administration works to root out waste, fraud, and abuse.
The hoaxes extended to the confirmation hearing for Secretary of Health and Human Services-designate Robert F. Kennedy, Jr.
HOAX: Secretary-designate Kennedy is "anti-vaccine," as multiple members of the Senate Committee on Finance claimed and the Fake News wrote before the hearing had even started.
FACT: This lie has been repeatedly debunked by Secretary-designate Kennedy himself — describing himself to the committee as neither "anti-vaccine [n]or "anti-industry," but "pro-safety." In reality, like President Trump, he is simply advocating for "good science" to enable Americans to make informed medical decisions about themselves and their families.
HOAX: As part of the Trump administration, Secretary-designate Kennedy would implement a national abortion ban and "restrict or even ban medication abortion without a single act of Congress."
FACT: Secretary-designate Kennedy pledged to implement President Trump's policies — which include leaving abortion to the states, ending barbaric late-term abortions, protecting conscientious objections, and ending federal funding for abortions.

Are the decklogs available to send to me for the USS Wainwright CG-28?
For my own personal research, I am searching for a specific activity of the ship during the period of April 1989 to September 1989
I served as enlisted crew at the time and there is an important detail I am trying to discover.
During that time period, the ship made a brief voyage to sea, for reasons I don't recall. What I remember is that Wainwright command ordered me to work temporary duty in an administrative office on Charleston Naval Station while the ship was out. I had a doctor's appointment at Charleston Naval Hospital while the ship was at sea and I had to stay on shore.
It is important to me to determine the precise date of that occurrence.
The best solution is to find it in my official medical records but I cannot find those. The national archives sent me many documents from my enlisted US Navy service record but they told me the medical records are stored at the hospital and that place is gone and the base no longer exists.
So hopefully I can find the answer in the ship's decklogs, if available to me, for my own personal interest.
If your organization knows where I can find the medical records archives then that would be appreciated.

but other times I think he was organic and then that leads me to thinking about how I wonder what is the real difference which then leads me to think about how that devalues life itself, or at least, those of use who have been duplicated. So the clone of me the clone shows up and he gives me instructions that he types out on a non-internet and non-wireless equipped computer and from those instructions I know where to find the teleportation device that will transport me into the virtual world that belongs to me, which I have been thinking for a while, contains no mirrors and there is nothing in there where I can see my reflection. So I go to that transportation device and I read through the instructions for activating it and a new aspect of the process, which I now think of from "The Terminator" is that I have to take off all my clothes before I am transported and then I am transported to my virtual world. The reason for the clothes is simply that, for me, there are factors constructed into the virtual world that creates a minor sense of hardship and indeed when I transport I am in the same location where the device is stored but there are no clothes there, or any people for that matter, and I have to walk outside in the freezing rain to find shelter. I am transported to the same location I remember but many of the buildings and structures that I would see at that location are gone in the virtual world. The road is still there but there are power lines or gas stations or many other structures that are useless in that virtual world. There are automobiles but only in new car lots and they don't require gasoline.

Kerry Burgess, in the only time I know about, because he has not returned from his second trip, was in there for a time I later presumed, because of his astronomical readings in the sky, of which I assumed was accurate in this real world. He had no clocks so he spent almost all his time, which was probably more than fifty years, trying to find a way to measure time. There were no people in that world but sometimes he would see mannequins positioned around and sometimes those mannequins would be positioned around where he had been trying to measure time, such as by chiseling marks into rock, which the mannequins were then standing in front of and that [chronology activity site] had been sabotaged.

I thought about that extensively. I think I wrote here before about how I tried to find again what I thought I wrote in my journal about it but could not find anything.
I had been there for months or longer. One day, I was passing through New York and I had the urge to drive through New York City. I was thinking that my mind was laboring with the notion I would be leaving there on that day going back to the real world and so I had taken out of my luggage my dress white US Navy uniform I was wearing that day months and months ago I found myself there in my new world. I had parked somewhere in the massive urban city and was walking along when I saw her there on the sidewalk, thinking she was a mannequin. I thought extensively of how only certain new vessels remained and I operated one US Navy ship to cross the Atlantic. We parted at a doorway after stating I would return to Charleston and I walked through a doorway before I even thought to say goodbye turning to find myself alone again.

Astronaut Michael Anderson statue to be unveiled today

A memorial bronze statue of the late Columbia space shuttle astronaut Lt. Col. Michael P. Anderson will be unveiled today at 2 p.m. in the breezeway between the Spokane Opera House and Convention Center.
The larger-than-life-sized statue by Spokane sculptor Dorothy Fowler will be visible from the Lilac Meadow in Riverfront Park. Plans call for it to be placed later at a new science center in the park dedicated to Anderson.
Anderson, a 1977 Cheney High School graduate, was one of seven astronauts who died when the Columbia disintegrated during its re-entry from space on Feb. 1, 2003.
His family will be present for the unveiling along with representatives of NASA. The public is encouraged to attend the free event.

Spokane astronaut Michael P. Anderson has been eulogized as a humble, deeply religious and inspirational man who lived out his dream.
For the past year, local artist Dorothy Fowler has used those descriptions to help her create an 8-foot-high, 600-pound bronze statue of Anderson. Her work was unveiled Sunday afternoon in the breezeway between the Opera House and Convention Center.
"It's beautiful," Anderson's widow, Sandy, said after the one-hour dedication ceremony. "She did a really good job capturing the spirit of my husband."
Anderson, a Spokane native and 1977 Cheney High School graduate, was one of seven crew members killed when the space shuttle Columbia exploded upon re-entry on Feb. 1, 2003. He was 43.
"I'm in awe of your artistry, your humbleness and your giftedness," Sandy Anderson, a 1974 Ferris High graduate, said to Fowler at the dedication.
About 300 people attended the dedication, including Anderson's daughters Sydney and Kaycee, who flew in from Houston with their mom; parents Bobbie and Barbara of Spokane; and brothers and sisters.
Several members of his NASA family, such as deputy director Frederick Gregory and Lt. Gen. Jefferson David Howell of the Johnson Space Center, flew in for the afternoon. Sen. Maria Cantwell, D-Wash., and U.S. Rep. Cathy McMorris, R-Wash., both sent representatives who read messages from the politicians. Spokane Mayor Jim West and some City Council members also attended but did not address the crowd.
"We're not going to let a little rain rain on our parade today. This is wonderful," Anne Marie Axworthy of Avista Utilities said to the crowd as a light sprinkle dampened the gowns of the Chanteuse Choir of University High School. "This memorial truly belongs to the community."
Fowler, who also sculpted three sets of bronze doors at the entrance to Spokane's Cathedral of Our Lady of Lourdes, said the statue's pose was determined after she talked to the family and met with the committee. Anderson, in space uniform, is kneeling with his helmet in one hand and a dove in the other. The words "Keeping this Dream Alive" are molded on the base. Thirty white doves from Spangle were released when the family uncovered the statue.
The pose signifies three things, Fowler said.
"The kneeling position - humility; the uplifting arm and heavenward gaze - faith; releasing a dove of peace - inspiration."
Fowler went on to say, "President Bush said this about Anderson at the memorial service: "Michael told his minister, "If this thing doesn't come out right, don't worry about me, I'm just going on higher.""
"Those words spoke to my heart and inspired my work."
The statue, which cost $125,000, was made possible through ambitious fund-raising. More than 70 percent of the money was donated by private citizens. Sacred Heart Medical Center, Avista, Washington Trust Bank and the Harriet Cheney Cowles Foundation were major donors.
The plan is to move the statue into a science center in Riverfront Park to be called Mobius at Michael P. Anderson Plaza. Construction won't begin for at least two years and hinges on successful fund-raising.
Joe Bruce, director of children's ministries at Hamblen Park Presbyterian Church, was one of the many Anderson admirers who stood throughout the program to pay his respects. A space enthusiast and instructor of a youth space program, Bruce said he met Anderson after he served on his first space flight in 1998. Anderson came to Spokane and visited four schools with Bruce.
"He was inspirational to the kids," Bruce said. "Our job is to keep students interested in science and math. The first person who will walk on Mars is in school today."

In an action by a servant for injury by negligence of the employer the jury, on special issues submitted, found against plaintiff on the only ground on which he resisted the charge of negligence. (This was furnishing, instead of copper wire asked for, wire of another metal, which in his endeavor to straighten it recoiled and destroyed his eye; which copper wire, he alleged, would not have done. The verdict found that it was copper wire which was furnished). On this verdict, unless lawfully set aside, defendant was entitled to, and moved for judgment in its favor. This the trial court denied and, on plaintiff's motion, declared a mistrial on the sole ground that the answers of the jury on special issues were in conflict.

The helicopters would open the war. They had to take out Iraq's early warning net, and they had to get it all.
At ten seconds before 2:38 in a moonless sky over Iraq, eight US AH-64 Apache helicopters zeroed in on their targets. On their forward-looking infrared screens appeared the images of two Iraqi radar sites just north of Saudi Arabia, placed there to detect intruding fighters. They were linked to four Iraqi fighter bases and to the Intelligence Operations Center in Baghdad.
The unseen Apaches hovered low, four miles south of the radars. At the controls of Number 976, 1st Lt. Tom Drew broke radio silence. "Party in ten," he said. On cue, ten seconds later, the helicopters unleashed a salvo of laser-guided Hellfire missiles. "This one's for you, Saddam ," muttered CW03 Dave Jones, the pilot of another Apache.
The shots, fired in the predawn hours of January 17, 1991, marked the start of Operation Desert Storm and were among the most critical of the war, blinding Iraq's early warning net at a key moment. US Central Command relied entirely on the Apaches and USAF special operations helicopters to do the job. "If something had happened and we didn't do 100 percent [destruction]," said one gunner, CW04 Lou Hall, "a lot of people were going to get hurt."
The Apaches did achieve 100 percent destruction, or close to it. Eyewitnesses report that, when the Hellfires hit the targets, the radar bases evaporated in clouds of smoke and flame. In the four and a half minutes it took to complete the task, the Apaches had, in the words of Gen. H. Norman Schwarzkopf, "plucked out the eyes" of Iraq's Soviet-supplied air defenses.

That the storekeeper of the defendant could not find in the storehouse of the defendant the spool upon which the wire was usually and customarily kept and picked the piece of wire which he gave to plaintiff from a tangled mass of wire, breaking the said piece of wire from said mass by beating the wire with a heavy weight. That when plaintiff received said piece of wire same was bent and curled and that it became necessary for him to straighten same, which he did attempt to do while he was carrying said wire back to the place where he had been working, and that while he was attempting to straighten the said wire, one end of said wire recoiled and struck plaintiff in his right eye, injuring and damaging same in the manner and to the extent as is hereinafter fully set out and described.
"That plaintiff had never before handled `16 gauge' copper wire, if such was the wire delivered to him by the storekeeper of the defendant, prior to this date, and did not know that same would recoil, and that the failure of the defendant, its agents, servants and employes to inform and notify the plaintiff that said wire would recoil, was negligence and that said negligence was the proximate cause of the injuries and damages by the plaintiff sustained.
"That plaintiff is informed and verily believes that the wire which he had been instructed to get and which was delivered to him by the storekeeper of the defendant was not in fact `16 gauge' copper wire, but was wire of another and different metal. That had the same been `copper' wire same would not have recoiled and would not have struck the plaintiff in his eye and injured him, and that the failure of the storekeeper of the defendant to give to plaintiff `copper' wire, was negligence, and that said negligence was the proximate cause of the injuries and damages by plaintiff sustained.

In Times Square, a man named Wendall Rickle runs through his list of personal issues in a frantic, alphabetized voiceover before pulling out a gun and shooting some seemingly random bystanders, including two police officers. He and his victims are taken to Rivervue, where Assistant District Attorney Strictler wants to talk to him on camera and get his confession for the press. Garrity is stunned and disturbed when she realizes that he came in to the hospital four days previously seeking help and she dismissed him, feeling overworked and assuming he was merely seeking drugs.
