Stargate SG-1 - "Avenger 2.0" - television series Season 7 Episode 9 - Aired Aug 08, 2003

Episode Summary

Dr. Felger creates a virus that will disable other gates, but after a test run, the virus spreads, disabling the entire gate network.

(from internet transcript)

INT—SGC—FELGER'S LAB

[Felger is going through the printouts when his cell phone rings. He takes it out, looks at the caller ID, and puts it back in his pocket, unanswered. The desk phone rings next, and he picks it up.]

FELGER
Stargate Command, Felger speaking. Mom, Mom, no, no, I told you not to call me here. No, you're not even supposed to have this number. I'm sorry I didn't call, I had to work late, something came up. If you must know, Mom, I screwed up again. Yeah, and I think this is the worst one yet. No, no…it's worse than that one.

[Carter enters the lab, but Felger doesn't notice.]

FELGER
No, worse than that one too, Mom. Mom, I don't need a list of my personal failures right now, okay? I mean, to tell you the truth, Mom, I don't even know if I can fix this one.

FELGER
Right. What—what exactly are you saying?

HAMMOND
I'm saying it may be time for the Air Force to rethink your position here.

FELGER
Okay, you know, that-that would be a mistake. Because, um, you know, it just so happens that I'm working on a, uh, a line of research, and it's, uh, it's…well, really, I'm on the verge of a major breakthrough, really.

HAMMOND
Oh, really?

FELGER
Really, yes, yes., and it's-it's gonna be huge! Huge, this thing…and it's gonna make the plasma weapon look like a squirt gun, sir.

CARTER
What is it?

FELGER
Hmm?

CARTER
What is it?

FELGER
What is it? It's—it's, uh, well, really, you know, I'm not ready for a formal presentation just yet. You know, I still gotta…you know, crunch a few numbers and dot a few i's and…I could probably have something ready for you by the, uh, end of next week.

HAMMOND
You have twenty-four hours.

FELGER
More than enough time.

[He starts to leave, then turns back to salute Hammond.]

HAMMOND
Dismissed.

FELGER
Thank you.

INT—SGC—FELGER'S LAB

CHLOE
What were you thinking?

FELGER
I don't know! I had to say something, they were going to fire me! Besides, what's the big deal? All we have to do is think of something that's going to change the balance of power in the galaxy by noon tomorrow.

CHLOE
You have anything in mind?

FELGER
As a matter of fact, I do. Avenger.

CHLOE
You've got to be kidding.

FELGER
No, it's perfect!

CHLOE
It's nowhere near ready! It's just an idea!

FELGER
We can make it work.

CHLOE
Oh, Jay, this is exactly your problem. You try so hard to impress people that you always bite off more than you can chew.

FELGER
Okay. Yes, you're right. I have to start setting more realistic goals for myself. Right after this project. Okay?

He sits down at his computer and starts typing.

FELGER
It should have worked!

EXT—ESTABLISHING SHOT OF THE MOUNTAIN

INT—SGC BRIEFING ROOM

[Hammond and Carter are talking in front of the window overlooking the Stargate.]

HAMMOND
Have you and Dr. Felger made any progress?

CARTER
I can't find him.

HAMMOND
Excuse me?

CARTER
Apparently, Dr. Felger has left the base. I think the pressure was getting to him.

HAMMOND
I thought you said all he needed was a little support.

CARTER
Yeah…I may have been wrong about that. Okay, I admit it, he's a complete screw-up. He makes rash decisions based on sketchy evidence, he's clumsy in the lab, he's always late and quite frankly, it wouldn't kill him to ease up on the after-shave, But, the fact is, sir, he's at Stargate Command because he's a brilliant scientist. And no one understands that virus better than he does.

HAMMOND
Then, I suggest you get him back.

CARTER
Yes, sir.

There was that dream I had the other night, where I was inside a missile. I remembered today the similarity with this movie, in that Cochrane converted an ICBM into his warp ship. But why would someone create a connection between me and Cochrane? I didn't create warp drive in the past only to have someone block my memory of that, did I? It's funny, when I read something the other day about Data arguing with Einstein, it reminded me of something I was writing in my journal back in the early '90s. I was wondering why it was impossible to travel faster than the speed of light. A couple years ago I was writing about it again. The idea presented itself to me about why it was impossible, something about atoms not being able to work because electrons could not transfer energy faster than the speed of light. I wondered if it was possible to create some kind of process to transfer energy to those atoms, not unlike a cell's mitochondria works. Today I have been wondering if anything I remember about the past is real. Do I have a different past? Am I really who I think I am? The stuff I imagine happening to me sometimes, did that stuff really happen?

HAMMOND
Be advised, Colonel. Major Carter has gone to P5S-117. She's attempting to get the Gate system back on line.

O'NEILL
That's occupied territory, sir.

HAMMOND
Yes, it is.

O'NEILL
What team did she take?

HAMMOND
Major Carter didn't want to risk stranding anyone else.

O'NEILL
She went alone?

HAMMOND
Not entirely. Dr. Felger's with her.

O'NEILL
I'm inspired with confidence.

EXT—GATE AREA ON P5S-117

[Felger has taken the cover off the DHD and attached leads from his laptop, which he's typing into while sitting on a stone. Carter rejoins him.]

CARTER
There's no sign of any Jaffa activity in the area.

FELGER
I'm in. I'm in. Whoo…Just a sec, just a sec. Okay, something's wrong.

CARTER
What?

FELGER
This isn't Avenger. I mean, it's Avenger, but something's hinky. It's been altered.

CARTER
Hinky?

FELGER
The point is, this isn't the program I wrote. It's been tampered with since it was sent.

INT—SGC CORRIDOR

[Carter and Felger are walking. She looks at the file containing his proposal.]

CARTER
A computer virus?

FELGER
Yeah…see, when you think about it, the—the Gate network is nothing more than a bunch of linked computers. I mean, delivering the virus is as simple as dialing the target Gate and uploading the program.

CARTER
The virus would then scramble the DHD's established coordinates.

FELGER
Yeah, so the symbols no longer correspond with the proper coordinates, you see? It's like rearranging the letters on your keyboard.

CARTER
Then the target Gate would be useless.

FELGER
Yeah, I mean, sure, the Goa'uld have ships, but…you know, they-they still rely heavily on Gate travel and that would be a real tactical advantage for us, don't you think? What do you think?

CARTER
It's interesting.

FELGER
Really?

CARTER
But you don't have a finished program.

FELGER
Uh, well, uh, finished, not finished, per se, no. But I really still have to, you know, just—

CARTER
Crunch a few numbers, dot a few i's…

FELGER
That's really it. Exactly, yeah.

CARTER
Well, I'll take a look at it. If it shows promise, I'll take it to General Hammond.

FELGER
Oh, yes! Okay…

CARTER
Whoa, whoa…don't celebrate just yet. This is far from a done deal.

FELGER
No, no. Of course not, of course not.

[Carter continues walking. Felger waits until she disappears around a corner, then pumps his fists.]

FELGER
Yes! Yes!
(He starts to walk away, then comes back and looks all around.)
Where am I? How'd she get me here?

(He walks off in the other direction.)

INT—SGC—HAMMOND'S OFFICE

[Carter places the completed report on the virus on the desk in front of him.]

CARTER
We think the virus is ready, sir. Of course, other than computer simulations, there's no real way to test it, except on another Gate.

HAMMOND
Do you have a target in mind?

CARTER
P5S-117. It's one of Ba'al's principal naquadah mining sites. If we could disable the Gate, we could seriously disrupt his supply network.

HAMMOND
How will we know if the test is successful?

CARTER
There's a Tok'ra operative on the planet who will be able to relay the results of the test through their sub-space communication network.

What makes "Stargate" seem to me a compelling solution is because it allows polluters to go elsewhere, somewhere off the planet so that their pollution is less-concentrated.

Sounds good, but even if I ever do get the ultimate secret figured out, isn't going to happen.

Why?

Why not is because the USA gov't will never allow a mass-exodus from this country.

In fact, they want more polluters stuffed in the borders of USA

Because loss of people is loss of tax revenue

I also have these unexplained thoughts that I was a fighter pilot in the U.S. military, although I'm not sure which service, but I may have been in two different branches over time. I am also confused about thoughts that I may have been a helicopter pilot. What's next? A space shuttle pilot? Seems like a lot for someone that is only 40. And, while I am not sure when this divergence happened, I am reasonably certain it was before I turned 33. So I must have been a pretty busy guy. Especially because I have thoughts that I was some kind of mathmetician too. I have these thoughts too that I was captured by enemy forces at some point and tortured while in captivity.

and I had thoughts that I studied music as well at Princeton.

This sounds very interesting. In my memory of taking Physics my Senior year at Ashdown, I remember being very interested in the class, but we didn t cover such an interesting topic.

http://www.princeton.edu/main/about/present/

Ayan Chatterjee (left) and Mark Daly measure piano strings as part of a lab project for professor Pierre Pirou 's freshman seminar on "Sound, Music and ... Physics."

9/28/2006 7:37 PM

I think I even have memories of the graduate degree process. I am not sure of the terms to describe the process.

9/28/2006 7:47 PM

I actually do remember... something... I can t explain it. It feels that I am holding an unmarked, undistinguishable book that I don t know the name of or the contents but I know I have read it already.

9/28/2006 8:34 PM

A few minutes ago I started thinking that maybe I started at Princeton University in 1972. I would have been 13 at the time as Thomas Ray. I remember that Kerry Burgess started first grade in 1972. But then I decided that I probably started Princeton earlier than 1972 and maybe 1972 was the year I completed my first major degree. Or 1972 doesn t really mean anything in particular to Thomas Ray; rather it is there for continuity sake for the life of Kerry Burgess.

Salesman

Also, "Salesman." I saw that in a dream while sleeping recently. I saw myself going through an induction process in the United States Marine Corps and I woke up understanding that I was dreaming of my actual experience in 1990. I saw a document that indicated I was being inducted to the United States Marine Corps with the officer grade of Chief Warrant Officer 2. I saw in the dream another document associated with my induction and that document indicated I had been assigned the informal name "Salesman."

"Evolution" Part 2

TV-series season 7 episode 12, 01/09/2004

(from internet transcript)

EXT—REBEL CAMP, DAY

[Daniel is escorted out of the shack he and Lee were locked up in. He walks slowly, and the rebels repeatedly shove him in the back.]

CHALO
Apúrate gringo. Rápido. Apúrate.

Translation: Hurry up, gringo. Faster.

INT—REBEL COMMAND SHACK

[Daniel is shoved into the shack and forced to sit in a high-backed wooden chair. In front of him is a table with fresh fruit and water. Rafael pours the water from a pitcher into a metal canteen cup.]

RAPHAEL
(slurping noisily from the cup)
You've not had water or food for two days.
(eating a piece of pineapple)
Ahh. Hmm. Muy delicioso. Pick of the season. This is very good. Today, we're going to start slow. I'm going to ask you, again…

[He removes a cloth, revealing the cube-shaped Telchak device.]

RAPHAEL
What is this?

[Daniel takes a deep breath and stares straight ahead.]

RAPHAEL
And this is the part where you do not talk. Okay.

[He takes a bite from a piece of pineapple then waves the remainder in front of Daniel's face.]

RAPHAEL
Hmm? For you…

[He touches the pineapple to Daniel's lips then takes it away. Daniel looks at it and takes a deep breath.]

RAPHAEL
And your friend, if you tell me what this is.
(he sighs)
I don't know how long someone can go without food, but I believe the human body needs water every three or four days.
[He takes another drink of water.]

DANIEL
(subdued)
It's an ancient artifact.

RAPHAEL
An artifact?

DANIEL
Yeah. I'm an archaeologist, that's what I do, I look for... artifacts.
(laughing nervously)
And now, uh, found one. Seriously, I'm an archaeologist. You guys can look me up on the internet if you want.
(looking behind him at the other men in the room)
You have a computer?

RAPHAEL
It all makes perfect sense. You're nothing more than an archaeologist, and you find and study artifacts.

DANIEL
Makes perfect sense.

RAPHAEL
Mmm. I'm going to ask you one last time. What is this? And again, you're not so talkative. What gives you the right to come into our country and steal valuable artifacts? You call yourself a scientist? You're nothing but a thief. And you think you're better than me. But I have reasons for what I do.

DANIEL
I don't doubt that.

RAPHAEL
(getting angry)
Chalo.

[Chalo moves to the side of the shack and uncovers a contraption of copper wires and jumper cables attached to a battery. He rubs the two jumper cable ends together, making them spark. Daniel flinches in the background.]

RAPHAEL
And here's something else you should not doubt, compadre. You will tell me what I want to know.

INT—REBEL COMMAND SHACK

[Daniel is seated in the wooden ladder-back chair. His wrists are tied at his sides, at the back side of the chair, with plastic tie wraps. He appears to have been there for a while, undergoing interrogation. All of Rafael's rebels look on.]

RAPHAEL
(angry, intense)
If you value the life of your friend, you will tell me what I want to know.

[Daniel spits blood from his mouth.]

RAPHAEL
Your friend told me this device may be the origin of the Fountain of Youth myth.

DANIEL
Yeah, it may be.

[Chalo kisses the religious medal on a chain around his neck.]

RAPHAEL
How does it work?

DANIEL
I don't know!
(flinching from Rafael's raised fist)
Look, you grabbed us five minutes after we found it.

[Raphael appears very agitated and hyperactive as he speaks.]

RAPHAEL
Who is this Telchak?

DANIEL
He's a mythological figure, a Mayan god that may or may not have lived here thousands of years ago.

RAPHAEL
So this device is many thousands of years old?

DANIEL
Possibly.

RAPHAEL
And this Mayan god brought this device to his temple. For what purpose?

[Daniel refuses to answer, and Rafael punches him hard in the face.]

DANIEL
Ah! To hide it, to use it, I don't know!

RAPHAEL
Use it. On whom?

DANIEL
People. Mayan people.

RAPHAEL
And what would it do to them?

DANIEL
Look, the research I used to find it just gave a cryptic warning the device was dangerous, even harmful. That's all I know.

RAPHAEL
(grabbing Daniel's face in one hand)
I do not think it is so harmful. I have never in my life felt as strong as I do right now.

[Rafael uncovers the device, which is still glowing with a white light.]

DANIEL
(horrified)
You turned it on?

RAPHAEL
Yes.

DANIEL
(pleading, intense)
Turn it off. You don't know what you're dealing with. The effects of the device may be unstable. It's very dangerous. Look, it's beyond our comprehension! Turn it off.

RAPHAEL
You're lying.

CHALO
What if he isn't? The device is cursed. Raphael; we should turn it off.

RAPHAEL
Turn it off? Do you not feel different, as well?

CHALO
I do, and it scares me.

(from internet transcript)

LEE
We won't get a hundred yards before they kill us.

DANIEL
Yeah, if we stay, they'll definitely kill us. I saw the short-term affects of that device. I know what a sarcophagus does to a person's sanity, and this is far more powerful. I don't think we want to stick around to find out what long-term exposure does.

[A plank pops loose.]

INT—REBEL COMMAND SHACK

[The Telchak device is still glowing as Chalo's body rests on a bed near it. He begins to move. His eyes are white, like those of a Kull Warrior.]

INT—SYMBIOTE LAB IN ANUBIS' BASE

CARTER
Judging by the number of holding tanks in this room, Anubis must be planning to have the Queen spawn thousands of Goa'uld. But why? A symbiote is spawned with the genetic memory of the maternal bloodline. They're egomaniacal and power hungry. That's not exactly a good combination for a foot soldier.

JACOB
That's right. But look at this. This Queen, whoever she is, must be in league with Anubis. She's preparing for a spawn cycle, yet her brainwave pattern is minimal. She has no intention of passing on her genetic memory. The symbiotes will be blank slates.

TEAL'C
Much like Egeria on Pangar.

JACOB
And Anubis will be free to imprint them however he sees fit. No free will - they're drones. They make the perfect soldier. Deadly, fearless, unquestioning loyalty.
