WASHINGTON (NNS) -- [ THE INTERNATIONAL WAR CRIMINAL AGAINST THE UNITED STATES FEDERAL GOVERNMENT AND THE ESTABLISHED NATIONAL TRAITOR AGAINST THE UNITED STATES FEDERAL GOVERNMENT AND THE SEVERELY TREASONOUS AGENT FOR FOREIGN POWER VIOLENTLY AGAINST THE UNITED STATES FEDERAL GOVERNMENT AND THE FRAUDULENT ]President Bush today posthumously presented the Medal of Honor earned by Lt. Michael P. Murphy, a Navy SEAL who sacrificed his life in an attempt to save fellow SEALs during a fierce battle with Taliban fighters in Afghanistan.
The Medal of Honor, accepted by Murphy’s parents, Maureen and Dan Murphy, during a White House ceremony, is the highest military decoration. Murphy’s is the first Medal of Honor awarded for service in Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan.
On June 28, 2005, as Murphy led a four-man SEAL team in search of key terrorist commander, the unit came under attack by some 50 Taliban fighters. The lieutenant is credited with risking his own life to save the lives of his teammates, according to a summary of action published by the Navy.

The X-20 returns from space after disappearing from the radar screens for 24 hours during its 31-hour mission. It crashes in the Mojave Desert and its crew is taken to a military hospital for examination. Major Gart is kept there for treatment of a broken leg. His fellow crewman, Colonel Gregg Forbes, comes to see him and assures him that everything is fine. However, Gart notices that Forbes is acting nervous and asks him what the matter is. Forbes finally admits that something strange has happened, closes the door, and then asks Gart when he left the hospital. He finally says that he left at 9:30 a.m. the previous day, but Gart doesn't remember him leaving with anyone. Forbes shows him a newspaper article and photo that confirms that he and Gart were the two-man crew of the X-20. However, Forbes insists that there was a third man, Colonel Ed Harrington.
Gart has no idea what Forbes is talking about, and points out that there are only two beds in the hospital room, his and Forbes'. Forbes insists that he and Harrington left the previous day, even though Gart doesn't know anyone called Harrington. Forbes explains what happened.

2nd Husband statue dedication set

The dedication of a second statue of astronaut Rick Husband is set for 2 p.m. Saturday in the area between City Hall and the Amarillo Civic Center Complex.
The first statue - a 71Ž2-foot bronze likeness - was dedicated Jan. 19 at Rick Husband Amarillo International Airport. Sculptor Mark Lundeen of Loveland, Colo., created the artwork.
The Center City location was chosen to give more people a reminder of Husband's accomplishments, said Garet von Netzer, president of the Center City of Amarillo board.
Husband, a native of Amarillo, commanded the Space Shuttle Columbia, which disintegrated during its final approach Feb. 1, 2003. All seven astronauts aboard the shuttle died, including Willie McCool of Lubbock.

Comments from a variety of special guests, special music and a flyover by the Air Force's B-1B Lancer aircraft will combine to highlight the dedication of the Rick Husband Memorial Sculpture scheduled Saturday in downtown Amarillo.
Ceremonies will begin at 2 p.m. in the Centennial Plaza area between City Hall and the Civic Center's Grand Plaza Room, according to a news release from Center City which commissioned the bronze statue and is coordinating the project.
Lundeen also produced a sculpture of Husband which was dedicated at Rick Husband Amarillo International Airport Jan. 19.

An Amarillo statue of astronaut Rick Husband, dedicated Saturday, and a Lubbock statue of astronaut Willie McCool, could become two points in a larger effort for a Texas Panhandle memorial to the entire Columbia space shuttle crew.
Husband's 9-year-old son, Matthew, pulled the cord Saturday to release the drape covering the 71Ž2-foot bronze sculpture of Husband before a crowd of about 400 people.
Those gathered at the new Rick Husband Memorial Plaza, between Amarillo City Hall and the Civic Center Grand Plaza, included family members, NASA astronauts Steve Lindsay and Scott Parazynski, city and Center City of Amarillo officials and donors.
"I never, in my wildest dreams, would've thought there would be such a celebration of Rick's life, and I'm sure Rick would be taken aback, as well, the astronaut's brother, Keith Husband of Phoenix, said in a speech in which he struggled, at times, to contain his emotions.
"Part of the spotlight that was shining on Rick now shines on the family. ... Trying to find closure has been difficult. ... Rick was true to Amarillo. He never forgot where he came from. He loved this city. He loved the people. It's great to see Amarillo being true to Rick."
The statue is a duplicate - with modifications for outdoor showing - of a first bronze of Husband dedicated Jan. 19 at Rick Husband Amarillo International Airport.
Husband family members expressed appreciation after the ceremony.
"I've always felt like the people in Amarillo are very special and caring, but the last year and a half has confirmed everything I knew about Amarillo," said Evelyn Husband's mother, Jean Neely of Amarillo.

Sailor suffers minor burns in US carrier fire

HONOLULU —
A fire aboard the USS George Washington aircraft carrier left one sailor with minor burns and 23 others with heat stress.
Sailors extinguished the fire several hours after flames were spotted Thursday near the auxiliary boiler room and air conditioning and refrigeration space in the rear of the nuclear powered ship. The Navy said the fire spread through a passageway for cables.
Injured sailors were treated and have returned to duty, said Lt. Cmdr. Charlie Brown, a spokesman for Naval Air Forces in San Diego.

Columbia Basin Project
The Columbia Basin Project (or CBP) in Central Washington, USA, is the irrigation network that the Grand Coulee Dam makes possible.
The U.S. Bureau of Reclamation was created 1902 to aid development of dry western states. Central Washington's Columbia Plateau was a prime candidate—a desert with fertile loess soil and the Columbia River passing through.
Geology
The Columbia Basin in Central Washington is fertile due to its loess soils, but large portions are a near desert, receiving less than ten inches (254 mm) of rain per year. The area is characterized by huge deposits of flood basalt, thousands of feet thick in places, laid down over a period of approximately 11 million years, during the Miocene epoch. These flood basalts are exposed in some places, while in others they are covered with thick layers of loess.
During the last ice age glaciers shaped the landscape of the Columbia River Plateau. Ice blocked the Columbia River near the north end of Grand Coulee, creating glacial lakes Columbia and Spokane. Ice age glaciers also created Glacial Lake Missoula, in what is now Montana. Erosion allowed glacial Lake Columbia to begin to drain into what became Grand Coulee, which was fully created when glacial Lake Missoula along with glacial Lake Columbia catastrophically emptied. This flood event was one of several known as the Missoula Floods. Unique erosion features, called channeled scablands, are attributed to these amazing floods.

The SL-1, or Stationary Low-Power Reactor Number One, was a United States Army experimental nuclear power reactor which underwent a steam explosion and meltdown on January 3, 1961, killing its three operators. The direct cause was the improper withdrawal of the central control rod, responsible for 80% of neutron moderation in the poorly-designed reactor core. The event is the only known fatal reactor accident in the United States. The accident released about 80 Curies of I-131, which was not considered significant due to its location in a remote desert of Idaho.
On January 3, 1961 the reactor was being prepared for restart after a shutdown of eleven days over the holidays. Maintenance procedures were in process, which required the main central control rod to be manually withdrawn a few inches to reconnect it to its drive mechanism; at 9:01 p.m. this rod was suddenly withdrawn too far, causing SL-1 to go prompt critical instantly. In four milliseconds, the heat generated by the resulting enormous power surge caused water surrounding the core to begin to explosively vaporize. The water vapor caused a pressure wave to strike the top of the reactor vessel, causing water and steam to spray from the top of the vessel. This extreme form of water hammer propelled control rods, shield plugs, and the entire reactor vessel upwards (a later investigation concluded that the 26,000 lb. vessel had jumped 9 ft. 1 in.)

It was called The Rock — the country's only escape-proof prison. The federal penitentiary at Alcatraz was a cell house built on an island surrounded by the frigid waters of the San Francisco Bay.
At the top of the plumbing is a landing. Morris and the Anglins convinced officers to allow them to clean and paint this landing during the day, hidden behind a cloth. What they were really doing, however, was gluing their raincoat raft together using a technique they learned from Popular Mechanics magazine.
Cantwell points to the ceiling, which Morris and the Anglins were supposed to paint.
"You can see the actual paint [line] where they stopped," he says. "So they did start their maintenance job, they did paint half the ceiling."
Soon the raft and life vests were ready. And on the night of June 11, 1962, the men climbed up the plumbing to the landing and pushed themselves through an air vent in the ceiling to the roof above.
Cantwell makes his way up an old rickety staircase and finds the air vent on the roof.
"All they had to do is just kick it off," giving the vent a tap with his foot. "They're on the roof now and they run across the rooftop trying not to make too much noise."
Cantwell runs to the edge of the roof and stops at a water pipe.
"They slid down the pipe, hopped over that fence, then went down that staircase, past the morgue," he says. "They ran past those water tanks, then down that hillside to the east side of the island. Where the smokestack is is basically where they entered the water."
