Gunner Peterson is a veteran dynamite man working for Jake and is romantically interested in Jake's daughter Mary. Johnny Brown, son of Nellie Brown who operates a boarding house, finds college too tame after his stint with a demolition squad in the army, and decides to quit. Getting a job with Jake, he is soon resented by Gunner when he tries to introduce some new methods and also starts showing an interest in Mary. A truck loaded with dynamite gets away from Hard Rock Mason and the loss of the truck causes Jake to have to borrow money from Nellie to keep his business going. Hard Rock is killed in a blast which Gunner decides was his fault, since he wouldn't listen to Johnny's ideas about how to set the charge, and he leaves. Later, when Johnny is testing charges, there is an unexpected blast and he is trapped in the tunnel.

In law, especially criminal law, a motive is the cause that moves people to induce a certain action. Motive in itself is seldom an element of any given crime; however, the legal system typically allows motive to be proven in order to make plausible the accused's reasons for committing a crime, at least when those motives may be obscure or hard to identify with.
The law technically distinguishes between motive and intent. "Intent" in criminal law is synonymous with mens rea, which means no more than the specific mental purpose to perform a deed that is forbidden by a criminal statute, or the reckless disregard of whether the law will be violated.[citation needed] "Motive" describes instead the reasons in the accused's background and station in life that are supposed to have induced the crime.

This scene of the Priestess performing some kind of ritual for their minds reminds me of a letter I mailed sometime in 2003. I guess that was the second half of 2003. Can't remember for certain. I do remember that I was living in that apartment in Redmond and that I mailed the letter in 2003. I wrote a letter to the Chief of Naval Operations and sent it to some kind of special projects department with several details in the letter and one was about writing a program for the UNIVAC fire-control computers on the USS Wainwright CG-28 that would transfer that memory of one active fire-control computer to another fire-control computer that could load the fire-control solution program because of what ever failure that had happened at a time when the fire-control computer was needed to control the missile weapons systems that would fend off an attack from hostile forces.
