This Is What I Think.

Oceania

I heard a detail on the radio that tells me my time traveler instincts are active again with this.

Just one word. One inconsequential word that in no way could have clued me in to deciding to watch this film tonight. Even as I write this, probably as result of the several bottles of beer I have drank, I cannot remember specifically that entire line of thought but I know.

Oh wait. On another topic related to my viewing of this film tonight, the time in the car happened after this. She came to Arkansas to visit me while I was already there will on leave. I had started to think that time in my Nissan XP pickup happened before the date of that premiere but that was afterwards actually. The night she and I met in that bar in Wisconsin that bar closed and she and I sat in my 1978 Ford Explorer pickup and when I put my hand on her skirt she told me she wasn't that kind of girl. I think we were there for a while longer talking and then she left to drive back to Illinois with her friends that she came there with. I think I drove up there alone that night but a buddy of mine came with me the next weekend and I saw here again there at that club as I think we had decided on the night we met.

I graduated from the US Navy Fire Controlman occupational rating school in Illinois and then went back to Arkansas on thirty days leave. Did she meet me there then? No. She only called me. I told her about my step-brother being killed in a car wreck on the night of 25 November 1986. I went to Dam Neck Virginia, near Norfolk Virginia, for US Navy Fire Controlman MK152 Guided Missile Computer Complex specialist training. She visited me there and then when I finished that school I had thirty days leave again in Arkansas and that was the time she came to visit me and stay at our house. By that time my sister had already moved out and so that girlfriend slept in my sisters room while I slept in my old bedroom.

Damnit. What did I note also about Valparaiso? I can't find it now. That was something about some kind of secret police that was infiltrated by communists. Was that Valparaiso? I think that was it.

What was the name of that Navy air base near where I was going to school at Dam Neck? I believe it was Oceania, which is similar to the name of the airline in Lost.

And then I went to Dam Neck after, but between GL and DN was when my step-brother died, according to my memory. He pulled through a graveyard a few hours before he died and said something about how I "should get used to it." At Dam Neck, there was the nearby amphibious base, and the Oceania air station.

That just caught up with me. Along the girl named Phoebe that Kerry Burgess picked out randomly on a dance floor in 1981, he also asked a girl to dance in 1986 one night in Wisconsin and that he knew long enough for me to now remember details about.

In the context of my artificial memory, I was stationed at the United States Navy base in Great Lakes Illinois and as a United States Navy Fire Controlman 3rd Class Petty Officer I was attending the Class A school for the Fire Controlman occupational rating and which teaches the fundamentals of the computer equipment that rating maintains for the weapons systems of United States Navy warships and other ships that have defensive weapons systems.

I do not recall the day I met her. That must have been the summer of 1986 and I think was about four to six weeks after I had arrived in Illinois after I had left an earlier school in Orlando Florida.

I just caught the association. Her birthday was 2 September 1965. I always remember that because it was exactly two months before my birthdate.

I don't recall the name of the bar but I remember it was a popular place and it was a fairly long drive from the US Navy base in North Chicago to that dance club in Wisconsin. There were a lot of women in that bar that night. I walked up and asked her to dance and we dated for a long time after that. I was thinking of a her again recently when I watched the 1986 film "Short Circuit" on television.

She was from Arlington Heights. I stayed there several times in that condo in Arlington Heights.

Anyway, first in my notes last night was to remember a girlfriend I had when I was going to a Navy school in Great Lakes, outside Chicago.

She was going to Valparaiso University in Indiana when we started dating and then later went to work for the IRS.
