Economic Espionage Act of 1996
The Economic Espionage Act of 1996 (18 U.S.C. § 1831–1839) makes the theft or misappropriation of a trade secret a federal crime. Unlike Espionage, which is governed by Title 18 U.S. Code Sections 792 - 799, the offense involves commercial information, not classified or national defense information.
This law contains two sections criminalizing two sorts of activity. The first, 18 U.S.C. § 1831(a), criminalizes the misappropriation of trade secrets (including conspiracy to misappropriate trade secrets and the subsequent acquisition of such misappropriated trade secrets) with the knowledge or intent that the theft will benefit a foreign power. Penalties for violation of section 1832 are imprisonment for up to 10 years for individuals (no fines) and fines of up to US$5 million for organizations.
In addition to these specific penalties, section 1834 of the EEA also requires criminal forfeiture of (1) any proceeds of the crime and property derived from proceeds of the crime and (2) any property used, or intended to be used, in commission of the crime.

Bid May Steady Mrs. Clinton's Campaign

ALBANY, N.Y. - Hillary Rodham Clinton's announcement that she intends to run for the Senate from New York should calm nervous supporters and bring order to a rocky campaign, advisers and political experts predict.
"The announcement puts New York Democrats more at ease, squelches the rumors that she may not go and puts more direction back into her campaign," said New York-based Democratic strategist Hank Sheinkopf.
Yesterday, Mrs. Clinton used an appearance before a teachers union in New York City to say she intends to run for the Senate seat being vacated next year by fellow Democrat Daniel Patrick Moynihan. The first lady said she will make a formal announcement next year.
"It's time to get moving and get started," she said. "I'll be traveling around the state and campaigning."
The race is expected to pit her against New York City Mayor Rudolph Giuliani.
After a series of campaign missteps in recent weeks - including complaints over her handling of Palestinian-Israeli issues during a Mideast trip earlier this month - numerous New York supporters had been urging Mrs. Clinton to devote more of her energies to the race. With polls showing her support slipping, some Democrats were saying she shouldn't even run.
State Democratic Chairwoman Judith Hope had suggested it might be time for Mrs. Clinton "to give up her day job" and move to New York. State Comptroller H. Carl McCall said she should also hire a full-time campaign manager.
"All three of those things ought to happen simultaneously and as quickly as possible, like tomorrow," McCall said last week.
Aides to the first lady conceded privately that they used yesterday's event to get past a particularly rocky period.
In recent days, media coverage of the Senate race in New York had largely spun out of control for Mrs. Clinton as the fallout from her trip to the Mideast continued.
State Sen. Carl Kruger, a Jewish Democrat from Brooklyn, had announced he was backing Giuliani because of Mrs. Clinton's embrace of Yasser Arafat's wife during the trip. That hug already appears in an anti-Hillary Clinton TV ad, paid for by the Republican Jewish Coalition, that is running in New York City and Washington.
Mrs. Clinton said yesterday she would move into her new home in suburban Westchester County, just north of New York City, as soon as the Secret Service gives her the OK.

NEW YORK - Ending months of speculation, Hillary Rodham Clinton said Tuesday she is seeking the Senate seat from New York. "The answer is yes," she told supporters. "I intend to run."
She left no room for doubt: "It's time to get moving and get started," she said. "I'll be traveling around the state and campaigning."
Clinton said she would make the campaign official in an announcement early next year.
The first lady and her advisers engineered the announcement Tuesday to end speculation that she was having second thoughts about seeking the seat.
They hoped that the development temporarily overshadows a string of political gaffes that have hindered her campaign; she came under heavy criticism for embracing the wife of Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat on a recent trip to the Middle East.
Looking calm and composed, Clinton took several questions, including one about the Monica Lewinsky investigation that staggered her husband's presidency.
"I'm not going back," she replied. "I'm going forward."

Bid May Steady Mrs. Clinton's Campaign

ALBANY, N.Y. - Hillary Rodham Clinton's announcement that she intends to run for the Senate from New York should calm nervous supporters and bring order to a rocky campaign, advisers and political experts predict.
"The announcement puts New York Democrats more at ease, squelches the rumors that she may not go and puts more direction back into her campaign," said New York-based Democratic strategist Hank Sheinkopf.
Yesterday, Mrs. Clinton used an appearance before a teachers union in New York City to say she intends to run for the Senate seat being vacated next year by fellow Democrat Daniel Patrick Moynihan. The first lady said she will make a formal announcement next year.
"It's time to get moving and get started," she said. "I'll be traveling around the state and campaigning."
The race is expected to pit her against New York City Mayor Rudolph Giuliani.
After a series of campaign missteps in recent weeks - including complaints over her handling of Palestinian-Israeli issues during a Mideast trip earlier this month - numerous New York supporters had been urging Mrs. Clinton to devote more of her energies to the race. With polls showing her support slipping, some Democrats were saying she shouldn't even run.
State Democratic Chairwoman Judith Hope had suggested it might be time for Mrs. Clinton "to give up her day job" and move to New York. State Comptroller H. Carl McCall said she should also hire a full-time campaign manager.
"All three of those things ought to happen simultaneously and as quickly as possible, like tomorrow," McCall said last week.
Aides to the first lady conceded privately that they used yesterday's event to get past a particularly rocky period.
In recent days, media coverage of the Senate race in New York had largely spun out of control for Mrs. Clinton as the fallout from her trip to the Mideast continued.
State Sen. Carl Kruger, a Jewish Democrat from Brooklyn, had announced he was backing Giuliani because of Mrs. Clinton's embrace of Yasser Arafat's wife during the trip. That hug already appears in an anti-Hillary Clinton TV ad, paid for by the Republican Jewish Coalition, that is running in New York City and Washington.
Mrs. Clinton said yesterday she would move into her new home in suburban Westchester County, just north of New York City, as soon as the Secret Service gives her the OK.

Royal Dano
Royal Dano (November 16, 1922 – May 15, 1994) was an American film and television character actor.
Dano was the voice of Abraham Lincoln for Walt Disney's "Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln" program, first presented at the 1964 World's Fair. Disney personally selected Dano, because he felt the actor came closest to the historical descriptions of Lincoln's voice. The "Great Moments" program was moved to Disneyland in 1965, and Dano's vocals continued to be a part of the program until 2001. In 1971, Dano's voice was also used for a revised Lincoln speech in the new "Hall Of Presidents" program at Walt Disney World in Florida, which ran to 1993.

The space shuttle Challenger exploded in a huge ball of red and yellow flame today and fell in blazing pieces into the Atlantic Ocean, apparently killing the seven astronauts aboard, including schoolteacher Christa McAuliffe.
The explosion on the $1.2 billion shuttle came at one minute, 15 seconds after launch when the shuttle was about 11 miles high and 9 miles down range from Kennedy Space Center.
Out of the flame of the descending shuttle came objects still belching white smoke. They were apparently the solid fuel boosters still firing. Huge chunks of the shuttle could be seen falling into the water followed by billowing smoke.
NASA made no announcement concerning the fate of the seven crew members, including McAuliffe, the 37-year-old schoolteacher from New Hampshire, the first civilian to be selected for a shuttle crew. The agency also did not offer any early theory or explanation of the cause of the explosion.
Observers said it was unlikely that anyone aboard survived.
There have been no fatalities in 55 previous manned U.S. space missions. Today's explosion, however, occurred 19 years and one day after three astronauts were killed on Jan. 27, 1967, in an explosion on the launch pad in the Apollo space program.
Challenger exploded before the horrified eyes of spectators at the Florida space center.

STS-51-L was the twenty-fifth flight of the American Space Shuttle program, which marked the first time a civilian had flown aboard the Space Shuttle. The mission used Space Shuttle Challenger, which lifted off from Launch Complex 39-B on January 28, 1986 from Kennedy Space Center, Florida.
The mission ended in disaster following the destruction of Challenger 73 seconds after lift-off because of the failure of an O-ring seal on Challenger's right Solid Rocket Booster (SRB). The failure of the seal allowed a flamethrower-like flare to impinge upon one of two aft SRB attach struts, which eventually failed, freeing the booster to pivot about its remaining attachment points. Subsequently, the forward part of the booster cylinder impacted the external tank (ET) intertank area, leading to a structural failure of the ET—the core structural component of the entire stack. A rapid burning of liberated propellants ensued. With the structural "backbone" of the stack compromised and breaking up, the SRBs flew off on their own, as did the orbiter, rapidly disintegrating due to the overwhelming aerodynamic forces. Evidence found in the remnants of the crew cabin showed that several of the emergency air supplies (PEAPs) carried by the astronauts had been
manually activated, suggesting that the forces during breakup of the orbiter were not inherently fatal and that at least three crew members were alive after the craft broke up.

After laying out a seven-figure advance for Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton's memoirs, her publishers are counting on seven-figure sales. The account of her years in the White House will have a first printing of 1 million copies, her lawyer said. The 576-page book, entitled Living History, is scheduled for release June 9. Hillary Clinton writes of her fury over affair

WASHINGTON — Hillary Rodham Clinton, acknowledging tirades and tears over her husband's affair with Monica Lewinsky, says President Clinton lied to her about the relationship until the weekend before he admitted it to a grand jury.
The New York senator vividly describes her pain over the betrayal in "Living History," her memoir covering eight years as first lady. A copy of the book, which goes on sale Monday, was obtained by The Associated Press.

After laying out a seven-figure advance for Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton's memoirs, her publishers are counting on seven-figure sales. The account of her years in the White House will have a first printing of 1 million copies, her lawyer said. The 576-page book, entitled Living History, is scheduled for release June 9. An audio version, read by Clinton, will be released the same day. Clinton was paid an $8 million advance by Simon & Schuster.

The joy of seeing a ship
I cannot express the confusion I was in, though the joy of seeing a ship, and one that I had reason to believe was manned by my own countrymen, and consequently friends, was such as I cannot describe; but yet I had some secret doubts hung about me - I cannot tell from whence they came - bidding me keep upon my guard. Burke-Gilman Trail
The Burke-Gilman Sammamish Trail is a rail trail in King County, Washington.
The 27-mile (43 km) multi-use recreational trail is part of the King County Regional Trail System and occupies an abandoned Seattle, Lake Shore & Eastern Railroad corridor
The Burke-Gilman segment is managed by the City of Seattle south of NE 145th Street. The trail begins at 11th Avenue NW in Ballard and follows along the Lake Washington Ship Canal and north along Lake Washington. At Blyth Park in Bothell the trail becomes the Sammamish River Trail and continues for 10 miles (16 km) to Marymoor King County Park, Redmond, on Lake Sammamish.
