INT. COMMAND MODULE - SPACE

The crew in their space suits are in their couches checking out the CM systems.

CAPCOM
- Apollo 13 we show S-IVB shut down, and all systems are nominal. Fred, set the S-band (a frequency band used in radar) Omni (omni directional antenna) to B and when you get in the LM to forward.

FRED HAISE
- Good shape over here.

[Caution and Warning Alarm Sounds]

JIM LOVELL
- Hey, we got a problem. O2 (Oxygen) flow high, cabin pressure, high.

KEN MATTINGLY
- I've got no suit pressure.

JIM LOVELL
- Ken, get your helmet on!

KEN begins to struggle with his helmet.

KEN MATTINGLY
- I can't get it locked.

JIM LOVELL
- Okay, we got a master alarm!

The glass on the indicators begin to break and float in the CM.

KEN MATTINGLY
- Oh, God!... Help!

The CM's hatch is forced opened by the increased pressure build-up in the cabin. Paper and other debris rush out through the open hatchway. A blue hose connected to one of the astronaut's space suits comes undone. JIM LOVELL is hanging from the hand hold in the open hatch as oxygen continues to rush past him and out into the vacuum of space. Suddenly a support inside the CM breaks loose and flies through the hatch knocking JIM LOVELL out into space. JIM is tumbling helplessly end over end as he is separating from the CM at a very high rate.

KEN MATTINGLY
- Jim!

INT. LOVELL HOME - BEDROOM - MORNING

MARILYN LOVELL
[wakes from dream]

INT. LOVELL HOME - JEFFERY'S ROOM - MORNING

As JIM LOVELL sits at the kitchen table across from JEFFERY, MARILYN watches and listens from the doorway as JIM tries to explain his upcoming mission and the Apollo-1 fire to JEFFERY.

TITLE:

MARCH 23, 1970 - 3 WEEKS PRIOR TO LAUNCH

JIM LOVELL
- ... Something bad might happen. Stars will fall down on you or something.

JEFFREY LOVELL
- That's silly. Stars can't fall on us.

JIM LOVELL
- Oh, you are a smarter kid than I was.

Star Trek: Enterprise

Shuttlepod One

Air Date: 02.13.2002

During a shuttlepod mission, Tucker and Reed are cut off from Enterprise and become convinced the starship has been destroyed and that their days are numbered.

Synopsis

Commander Tucker and Lt. Reed have been on a mission to test the targeting scanners on Shuttlepod 1, requiring them to fly the craft at least 20,000 kilometers from Enterprise. During their trials they experienced an unusual jolt that disabled their sensor array and com system, forcing them to return early to the asteroid field where Enterprise has been engaged in a mapping project. Upon arriving at the rendezvous point, the two men are shocked to find a field of debris on an asteroid's surface, including a hull fragment that is unmistakably a piece of Enterprise.

Plot summary for

"Futurama"

Love's Labours Lost in Space (1999)

Leela is feeling lonely, unable to meet a worthwhile guy. Professor Farnsworth sends the crew on a tax-deductible charity mission to evacuate wildlife from the doomed planet Burgon 6. While approaching the planet, Leela is thrilled to meet the legendary Captain Zapp Brannigan, who is policing the sector. Upon closer inspection, Brannigan turns out to be a pompous dimwit (who also thinks he's God's gift to women). Brannigan throws the Planet Express crew in jail for violating the planet's security cordon, but tries to seduce Leela. When his clumsy attempts to appear suave and sophisticated fail, he scores with pathetic crying. Leela gets the crew released, and they collect wildlife from Burgon 6, but the mission fails when the last animal collected turns out to be a tiny, voracious killing machine that consumes all the other animals. Leela names him Nibbler. Trapped on the collapsing planet without fuel, Leela refuses to go crawling back to Zapp. Then Nibbler excretes a lump of combustible rocket fuel, and the ship is saved.

The Space Shuttle Enterprise (NASA Orbiter Vehicle Designation: OV-101) was the first Space Shuttle built for NASA. It was constructed without engines or a functional heat shield, and was therefore not capable of space operations; its purpose was to perform test flights in the atmosphere.

On January 31, 1977, it was taken by road to Dryden Flight Research Center at Edwards Air Force Base, to begin operational testing.

http://www-pao.ksc.nasa.gov/kscpao/shuttle/resources/orbiters/enterprise.html

Enterprise, the first Space Shuttle Orbiter, was originally to be named Constitution (in honor of the U.S. Constitution's Bicentennial). However, viewers of the popular TV Science Fiction show Star Trek started a write-in campaign urging the White House to rename the vehicle to Enterprise. Designated, OV-101, the vehicle was rolled out of Rockwell's Air Force Plant 42, Site 1 Palmdale California assembly facility on Sept. 17, 1976. On Jan. 31, 1977, it was transported 36 miles overland from Rockwell's assembly facility to NASA's Dryden Flight Research Facility at Edwards Air Force Base for the approach and landing test program.

After World War II, which saw the introduction of U.S. "5-star" officers who outranked Washington, both Congress and the President revisited the issue of Washington's rank. To maintain George Washington's proper position as the first Commanding General of the United States Army, he was appointed, posthumously, to the grade of General of the Armies of the United States by congressional joint resolution Public Law 94-479 January 19, 1976, approved by President Gerald R. Ford on October 11, 1976. The Department of the Army Order 31-3, issued on March 13, 1978 had an effective appointment date of July 4, 1976.[10] The rank ensures that no United States military officer outranks George Washington.

Apollo 8 was the Apollo space program's second successful manned mission. Its crew – Commander Frank Borman, Command Module Pilot James Lovell and Lunar Module Pilot William Anders – became the first humans to orbit the Moon. It was also the first manned launch of the Saturn V rocket.

As they rounded the Moon for the ninth time, the second television transmission began. Borman introduced the crew, followed by each man giving his impression of the lunar surface and what it was like to be orbiting the Moon. Borman described it as being "a vast, lonely, forbidding type of existence or expanse of nothing". Then, after talking about what they were flying over, Anders said that the crew had a message for all those on Earth. Each man on board read the story of creation from Genesis. Borman finished the broadcast by wishing a Merry Christmas to "all of you, all of you on the good Earth".

The only thing left for the crew to do now was to perform the Trans-Earth Injection or TEI, which would occur 2½ hours after the end of the television transmission. This was the most critical burn of the whole flight. If the SPS failed to ignite, then the crew would be stuck in orbit around the Moon, with only about 5 more days of oxygen and no chance of escape. Once again, the burn had to be performed while the crew was out of contact with Earth, on the far side of the Moon.

The burn occurred perfectly on time. The spacecraft telemetry was reacquired as it re-emerged from behind the Moon at 89 hours, 28 minutes, and 39 seconds, the exact time predicted. When voice contact was regained, Lovell announced, "Please be informed, there is a Santa Claus", to which Ken Mattingly, the capcom, replied, "That's affirmative, you are the best ones to know". It was Christmas Day, 1968.

Plot summary for

Jacob's Ladder (1990/I)

New York postal worker Jacob Singer is trying to keep his frayed life from unraveling. His days are increasingly being invaded by flashbacks to his first marriage, his now-dead son, and his tour of duty in Vietnam. Athough his new wife tries to help Jacob keep his grip on sanity, the line between reality and delusion is steadily growing more and more uncertain.

On 06 Oct 1971, in Vietnam, the American soldier Jacob Singer (Tim Robbins) is wounded by a bayonet during an attack to his platoon. He wakes up in a New York subway while going home late at night after working overtime in the post office. He is divorced from Sarah (Patricia Kalember), lives with his colleague and lover Jezebel (Elizabeth Peña) in a small Brooklyn apartment and misses his young son Gabe (Macaulay Culkin), who died in an accident for which Jacob feels responsible. During the next days, Jacob is chased by demons and finds the army conspiracy against him, while having strange visions during different moments of his life.
