Pneumonic plague is a severe lung infection caused by the bacterium Yersinia pestis. Symptoms include fever, headache, shortness of breath, chest pain, coughing, and coughing up blood. They typically start about three to seven days after exposure. It is one of three forms of plague, the other two being bubonic plague and septicemic plague.
The pneumonic form may occur following an initial bubonic or septicemic plague infection. It also may result from breathing in airborne droplets from another person or animal infected with pneumonic plague. The factor that differs among the three forms of plague is the location of infection; in pneumonic plague the infection is in the lungs, in bubonic plague the lymph nodes, and in septicemic plague within the blood. Diagnosis is by testing the blood, sputum, or fluid from a lymph node.
While vaccines are being developed, in most countries they are not yet commercially available. Plague is present among rodents in Africa, the Americas, and Asia. The total reported number of cases of all types of plague in 2013 was 783.
Prevention from pneumonic plague is by avoiding contact with infected people and animals, and by the use of correctly fitted surgical masks. It is recommended that those infected be isolated from others. Treatment of pneumonic plague consists of antibiotics.
Pneumonic plague is more serious and less common than bubonic plague. Left untreated, pneumonic plague is almost always fatal.
Some hypothesize that the pneumonic version of the plague was mainly responsible for the Black Death that resulted in approximately 25 million deaths in the 1300s.

US monitoring suspected fatal pneumonic plague case in Russia, State Department official says
The State Department is monitoring reports of a suspected fatal pneumonic plague case in Russia and is urging Moscow to share accurate information quickly as details remain unconfirmed.
A State Department official told Fox News that the U.S. is aware of reports of a death in Irkutsk Oblast, a region in southeastern Siberia, and is watching the situation closely with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and other federal agencies. The official stressed that many details have not been confirmed and called on Russian authorities to reveal what they know.
Former CIA officer Dan Hoffman told Fox News Digital that the U.S. intelligence community is likely to be collecting all-source intelligence on the incident.
"I would also expect our embassy in Moscow to be engaging with their diplomatic counterparts at an official level because we might have people in Russia who might be at risk," Hoffman warned.
Plague bacteria (Yersinia pestis) causes bubonic plague and is carried in the pathogen of rats, and there are still many regions of the world where the disease occurs. Pneumonic plague can be treated with common antibiotics, especially when treatment begins early, the official said. Appropriate therapy should begin as soon as plague is suspected, and patients can be treated with intravenous or oral antimicrobials depending on the severity of illness and other factors, according to the CDC.

Behind enemy lines of insurrection against the USA.
Three days after making the mistake of going to breakfast at McDonald's here nearby I still feel the effects of their attack against me.
I wrote a short while ago about how insurrection forces have targeted me here in King County Washington, because King County Washington State, and Washington State as a whole are 100% controlled by al Qaida violently against the United States, and they follow me around to get the food workers, who are probably ex-convicts and or drug addicts, to rage at me.
So anyway, I had a stomach ache all day afterwards and the next day and the stomach ache has lessened slightly but I still feel as though that must have poured Drano over the food that I ordered from McDonald's on Saturday morning.
I knew the way they were going on that something had riled them up and I suspected they were raging at me.
I suspect what I feel is similar to how someone feels who has been poisoned by cyanide.
