I guess I am the only one that gets angry when Microsoft-Corbis kills people in the U.S. military.

Adolf Eichmann

Otto Adolf Eichmann (March 19, 1906 – May 31, 1962), sometimes referred to as "the architect of the Holocaust", was a Nazi and SS-Obersturmbannführer (equivalent to Lieutenant Colonel). Because of his organizational talents and ideological reliability, he was charged by Obergruppenführer Reinhard Heydrich with the task of facilitating and managing the logistics of mass deportation of Jews to ghettos and extermination camps in Nazi-occupied Eastern Europe.

After the war, he travelled to Argentina using a fraudulently obtained laissez-passer issued by the International Red Cross and lived there under a false identity working for Mercedes-Benz until 1960. He was captured by Israeli Mossad operatives in Argentina and tried in an Israeli court on 15 criminal charges, including crimes against humanity and war crimes. He was convicted and hanged in 1962.

1961: Nazi war crimes trial begins

The trial has begun in Israel of the man accused of helping Hitler in his plan to exterminate the Jews.

Adolf Eichmann faces 15 charges, including crimes against humanity, crimes against the Jewish people and war crimes.

He sat in a bullet-proof glass dock flanked by two guards specially chosen because their families had not suffered directly at the hands of the Nazis.

The three judges hearing the case in Jerusalem were all refugees from the Nazi regime in Germany.

HOT PILOTS BATTLE CODE JOCKEYS - ALL CRASH AND BURN AT MICROSOFT

BLUE ANGELS FLY SIMULATED DOGFIGHT WITH TECHIES

BY DAN RICHMAN P-I Reporter

A dozen bullet holes in the windshield, no rudder and a few howling dives into the ground would normally be serious concerns to Blue Angels pilot Lt. Doug Verissimo.

But yesterday, the lead solo pilot for the Navy's crack formation-flying squadron laughed off those problems.

``What the heck. It's only a game," Verissimo, 34, said.

In town for Seafair, where they'll perform Saturday and Sunday, Verissimo and fellow pilot Lt. Cmdr. Kiron O'Connor, 35, spent part of their only day off here playing Microsoft's Combat Flight Simulator.

Memorable quotes for

Capricorn One (1978)

Dr. James Kelloway: Okay, here it is. I have to start by saying that if there was any other way, if there was even a slight chance of another alternative, I would give anything not to be here with you now. Anything. Bru, how long have we known each other? Sixteen years. That's how long. Sixteen years. You should have seen yourself then. You looked like you just walked out of a Wheaties box. And me, all sweaty palm and deadly serious. I told everybody about this dream I had of conquering the new frontier, and they all looked at me like I was nuts. You looked at me and said, "yes." I remember when you told me Kay was pregnant. We went out and got crocked. I remember when Charles was born. We went out and got crocked again. The two of us. Captain Terrific and the Mad Doctor, talking about reaching the stars, and the bartender telling us maybe we'd had enough. Sixteen years. And then Armstrong stepped out on the Moon, and we cried. We were so proud. Willis, you and Walker, you came in about then. Both bright and talented wise-asses, looked at me in my wash-and-wear shirt carrying on this hot love affair with my slide-rule, and even you were caught up in what we'd done. I remember when Glenn made his first orbit in Mercury, they put up television sets in Grand Central Station, and tens of thousands of people missed their trains to watch. You know, when Apollo 17 landed on the Moon, people were calling up the networks and bitching because reruns of I Love Lucy were cancelled. Reruns, for Christ's sake! I could understand if it was the new Lucy show. After all, what's a walk on the Moon? But reruns! Oh, geez! And then suddenly everybody started talking about how much everything cost. Was it really worth twenty billion to go to another planet? What about cancer? What about the slums? How much does it cost? How much does any dream cost, for Christ's sake? Since when is there an accountant for ideas? You know who was at the launch today? Not the President. The Vice-President, that's who. The Vice-President and his plump wife. The President was busy. He's not busy. He's just a little bit scared. He sat there two months ago and put his feet up on Woodrow Wilson's desk, and he said, "Jim. Make it good. Congress is on my back. They're looking for a reason to cancel the program. We can't afford another screw-up. Make it good. You have my every good wish." His every good wish! I got his sanctimonious Vice President! That's what I got! So, there we are. After all those hopes and ll that dreaming, he sits there, with those flags behind his chair, and tells me we can't afford a screw-up. And guess what! We had a screw-up! A first-class, bona-fide, made-in-America screw-up! The good people from Con-Amalgamate delivered a life-support system cheap enough so they could make a profit on the deal. Works out fine for everybody. Con-Amalgamate makes money. We have our life-support system. Everything's peachy. Except they made a little bit too much profit. We found out two months ago it won't work. You guys would all be dead in three weeks. It's as simple as that.

Navy Seeks Answers In Blue Angels Crash -- 2 Jet Pilots Killed In Training

Elliott Minor

AP

MOODY AIR FORCE BASE, Ga. - Investigators are examining the wreckage of a Navy Blue Angels jet to determine why its landing approach on a clear day ended in a stand of pines, killing its two crewmen.

The F/A-18 Hornet crashed during a training flight yesterday on a farm a few miles north of Moody Air Force Base in southern Georgia.

The precision flying team canceled a performance at Moody this weekend and planned to return today to its home base in Pensacola, Fla.

"The team is obviously in mourning right now," Cmdr. Jack Penn, a Navy spokesman said today. Penn said two Naval investigators arrived at Moody late yesterday and were examining the wreckage today.

Pentagon spokesman Kenneth Bacon said the Navy would search aggressively for any procedural or maintenance problems that could have caused the crash.

"This is its premier flying team, a team that performs to the amazement and pleasure of crowds all over the United States," Bacon said. "You can be sure the Navy will do whatever it can to make sure that this team is at the very top of its ability to fly."

Killed in the crash were Lt. Commander Kieron O'Connor, 35, of Burtonsville, Md., and Lt. Kevin Colling, 32, of Castle Rock, Colo., said their flight leader, Cmdr. Patrick Driscoll.

In August, while the Blue Angels were in Seattle, O'Connor and squadron mate Lt. Cmdr. Doug Verissimo participated in a mock dog fight against the creator of a Microsoft flight-simulation game at the company's Redmond headquarters.

O'Connor had been with the 14-member team since last November, while Colling had joined recently and was being trained, Driscoll said. "(These pilots) are two of the best naval aviators I know. This is a tragic loss to the families, to the Blue Angels and the U.S. Navy," Driscoll said.

At the time of the crash, the jets were not in formation and were circling to practice arrival procedures as the pilots familiarized themselves with the terrain, Driscoll said. The jet that crashed was near another, but not as close as the aircraft usually fly during performances, he said.

Remarks by Secretary of Defense William Cohen and Bill Gates

Thursday, February 18, 1999

Redmond, Washington

DEFENSE SECRETARY WILLIAM COHEN:

And at the same time that I mention this, there is also a gap that exists by some in this industry and our military. And it's gap that is not unique to this industry but I think is somewhat indicative of that in our country. There is a sense that in many places beyond this campus, from Sunnyvale to Silicon Valley to Silicon Alley, that there are some in the digital world who dismiss the importance of national security, that some soldiers in the high-tech revolution don't fully appreciate or understand the soldiers in camouflage, that tanks and guns are somehow rusty relics of the past and may be obsolete in the new information-based world that is going to carry us into the future.

I think of this because there is one Silicon Valley executive who said about as much in an interview that he granted to the New York Times columnist Tom Friedman. He said that: "We don't even care about Washington." He said: "Money is extracted from Silicon Valley and then wasted by Washington. And why would I care about wealth destroyers?"

I am not even going to bother turning around to see if there is any kind of receptivity behind my shoulder.
