The Seattle Municipal Court, Columbia Legal Services, Seattle City Attorney, and the Associated Counsel for the Accused will host a Homeless Veteran’s Court forum on Monday, June 27 at Seattle Municipal Court. The forum is an opportunity to bring together experts from San Diego County, the site of the first Homeless Court, and local providers to learn the most effective way to operate a similar court in King County.
Seattle Municipal Court sees many homeless defendants who commit low level quality of life crimes such as theft, criminal trespass, and drinking in public. Homeless individuals may fail to comply with the court process since they have no address to receive a criminal summons, resulting in issuance of a warrant. This minor offense could be more effectively addressed through a Homeless Court process, whereby the court, legal system and social service systems collaborate to help resolve misdemeanors for defendants already on the road to self-sufficiency. Service providers identify candidates and the prosecutor and public defender work out a plea agreement. In most cases, part of the sentence includes credit for progress the individual has already made. This may include participation in drug or alcohol treatment, completion of an anger management class, or completion of community service.

Seahawks Stadium fatality as man jumps to his death

A mentally ill man jumped to his death from an upper level of the new Seahawks Stadium during an open house for fans yesterday, according to the Seattle Police Department.
Witnesses saw the man, thought to be in his mid-30s, climb a 3-foot railing and jump from a ramp on the northwest side of the stadium shortly before 1 p.m. He fell about 40 feet and landed on a concrete plaza.
Emergency crews responded immediately and began resuscitation efforts but the man died at Harborview Medical Center less than an hour later.
"He did not fall, he jumped," said Seattle police spokeswoman Deanna Nolette. "All indications are it was an intentional act done by a man with a history of mental problems."
The man's identity was not released but his family told stadium staff that he had suffered from mental illness, Nolette said.
She said the incident was a suicide and any further investigation will be handled by First & Goal, which represents the stadium.
The King County Medical Examiner's Office has scheduled an autopsy for tomorrow morning.
"Our hopes and thoughts are with the victim and the victim's family," said First & Goal spokesman Jeff Klein.
"We are working closely with the authorities on the investigation and take this accident very seriously."
The upper levels of the stadium are outfitted with 3-foot-high metal rails. Witnesses said the man fell from the second or third level.
Fans had been invited to tour the $430 million, 67,000-seat stadium built on the site of the old Kingdome.

Hawks' stadium opens with fanfare

Fans have a chance to tour new Seahawks Stadium for free today and tomorrow, from noon to 7 p.m.
Beginning Tuesday through Aug. 4, fans can tour the stadium before each Mariner home game.
"Once we launch into the Sounders soccer game on July 28, fans will have to have tickets to enjoy the stadium," said Suanne Pelley, communications manager for First and Goal Inc.
The on-field festivities this weekend include local bands performing live, stadium tours that will take fans to areas they can't see during games, and football, soccer and cheerleading clinics. Current and former Seahawks players, the Sea Gals and the Sounders will be at the stadium, signing autographs, posing for photos and participating in interactive clinics.
"The public owns the facility," Pelley said. "These are two great days to celebrate the new stadium and take advantage of an opportunity to be down on the field."

Training and Designation
Student Naval Aviators (SNAs) progress through a significant training syllabus ? typically 18 months to four years ? four years being for the Advanced Strike pipeline ? en route to becoming designated Naval Aviators. This includes ground and flight training at numerous locations.
Introductory Flight Screening (IFS)
IFS is the first step to becoming a Naval Aviator. All new flight school students first enroll in a civilian flight school (normally near NAS Pensacola) for 25 hours of flight training in small general aviation aircraft. The student must solo and complete at least one cross country flight. The purpose of IFS is to screen all students to see their aptitude for flight in actual aircraft, before sending them through all of flight school. Students who already have a Private Pilot Certificate skip IFS and go straight to Aviation Preflight Indoctrination (API).
Intermediate and Advanced Flight Training
Upon successful completion of Primary Flight Training, SNAs are selected for one of four Intermediate Flight Training paths: E-6B Mercury, multi-engine propeller / maritime aircraft, helicopters, or Tailhook aircraft. Selection is based upon the needs of the service (USN, USMC, etc.), the SNAs performance, and finally, the SNAs preference.
Tailhook Syllabus
Student Naval Aviators selected for Tailhook training are assigned to NAS Kingsville, Texas or NAS Meridian, Mississippi flying the T-45C or T-45A. The syllabus incorporates basic instrument flying, formation, night familiarization and airway navigation over approximately 58 graded flights lasting approximately 27 weeks. At the completion of the Tailhook syllabus, approximately 80% of those SNAs are selected for Advanced Strike training, leading ultimately to tactical jets (like the F/A-18 or AV-8B (Marine Corps only)). The remaining 20% receive further training in the E2/C2 pipeline, ultimately leading to assignment flying either the E-2C or C-2 Greyhound. Marine Corps SNA's automatically continue in the Advanced Strike syllabus and will ultimately fly either the F/A-18, AV-8B, or the EA-6B.
Advanced Strike Pipeline
Advanced Strike students continue with approximately 67 additional graded flights lasting approximately 23 weeks in the T-45A/C. The syllabus covers bombing, Air combat maneuvering (ACM), advanced instruments, low-level navigation, tactical formation flying (TACFORM), and Carrier Qualification (CQ) (see Modern US Navy carrier operations). Graduates of Advanced Strike will fly versions of the F/A-18 Hornet and Super Hornet, EA-6B Prowler, EA-18G Growler and AV-8B Harrier II. In addition to current aircraft, this pipeline will eventually produce pilots for the F-35 Lightning II.
Advanced Strike previously produced pilots for the since-retired F-8 Crusader, F-4 Phantom II, F-14 Tomcat, A-4 Skyhawk, A-6 Intruder, A-7 Corsair II and RA-5C Vigilante. No further Advanced Strike students will be sent to train in the S-3 Viking, scheduled for retirement in January 2009.
E2/C2 Pipeline
E2/C2 students go straight to CQ in the T-45 Goshawk with approximately 20 additional graded flights over 8 weeks. Upon successful CQ, E2/C2 students go to NAS Corpus Christi to complete multi-crew and multi-engine training (approx. 16 weeks) in the T-44A. Following winging, they will go on to fly the E-2 Hawkeye or C-2 Greyhound.
Rotary-Wing Pipeline
Student pilots selected for helicopter training report to NAS Whiting Field, Florida and complete advanced training in the helicopter training squadrons there as well, flying the TH-57 Sea Ranger. Students learn the unique characteristics and tactics of rotary-wing aviation, to include basic instrument flying, night familiarization (including use of night vision goggles or NVGs) and airways navigation. They are also introduced to shipboard landing on the Helo Landing Trainer (HLT), the Navy’s only ship dedicated to teaching helicopter pilots how to land onboard a moving vessel for Deck Landing Qualifications (DLQ). Once they receive their Wings of Gold, Navy helicopter pilots report to their respective Fleet Replacement Squadron (FRS) for Seahawk training, to include either the SH-60B/R (HSL/HSM), SH-60F/HH-60H (HS), or MH-60S (HSC). MH-53E (HM) Super Stallion training is also a possibility. Marine Corps helicopter pilots report to an AH-1W Super
Cobra, CH-46 Sea Knight, CH-53 Sea Stallion, UH-1N/Y or MV-22 Osprey FRS, while Coast Guard helicopter pilots will report to the Coast Guard Aviation Training Center in Mobile, Alabama for the further training on the HH-60J Jayhawk or HH-65 Dolphin. Hawks' stadium opens with fanfare

Fans have a chance to tour new Seahawks Stadium for free today and tomorrow, from noon to 7 p.m.
Beginning Tuesday through Aug. 4, fans can tour the stadium before each Mariner home game.
"Once we launch into the Sounders soccer game on July 28, fans will have to have tickets to enjoy the stadium," said Suanne Pelley, communications manager for First and Goal Inc.
The on-field festivities this weekend include local bands performing live, stadium tours that will take fans to areas they can't see during games, and football, soccer and cheerleading clinics. Current and former Seahawks players, the Sea Gals and the Sounders will be at the stadium, signing autographs, posing for photos and participating in interactive clinics.
"The public owns the facility," Pelley said. "These are two great days to celebrate the new stadium and take advantage of an opportunity to be down on the field."

Of all the promises and expectations that accompany a lucrative investment such as Seahawks Stadium, this $430 million facility — unlike its predecessor or its neighbor to the south — offers no guarantees where weather is concerned. And that is the gamble the architects of the plan to bring professional outdoor football to Seattle are willing to take.
"It's going to do for the Seahawks what Safeco (Field) did for the Mariners," said Campbell, a lifelong Everett resident. "I was around here when the Kingdome opened, and that was something else. It really was.
"A lot of people forget that, but the Kingdome was the place to be. It was loud, and that's where the 12th-man stuff started.

Seahawks Stadium fatality as man jumps to his death

A mentally ill man jumped to his death from an upper level of the new Seahawks Stadium during an open house for fans yesterday, according to the Seattle Police Department.
Witnesses saw the man, thought to be in his mid-30s, climb a 3-foot railing and jump from a ramp on the northwest side of the stadium shortly before 1 p.m. He fell about 40 feet and landed on a concrete plaza.
Emergency crews responded immediately and began resuscitation efforts but the man died at Harborview Medical Center less than an hour later.
"He did not fall, he jumped," said Seattle police spokeswoman Deanna Nolette. "All indications are it was an intentional act done by a man with a history of mental problems."
The man's identity was not released but his family told stadium staff that he had suffered from mental illness, Nolette said.
She said the incident was a suicide and any further investigation will be handled by First & Goal, which represents the stadium.
The King County Medical Examiner's Office has scheduled an autopsy for tomorrow morning.
"Our hopes and thoughts are with the victim and the victim's family," said First & Goal spokesman Jeff Klein.
"We are working closely with the authorities on the investigation and take this accident very seriously."
The upper levels of the stadium are outfitted with 3-foot-high metal rails. Witnesses said the man fell from the second or third level.
Fans had been invited to tour the $430 million, 67,000-seat stadium built on the site of the old Kingdome.

M*A*S*H aired weekly in its original CBS run, with most episodes being a half-hour in length. The series is usually categorized as a situation comedy, though it is sometimes also described as a "dark comedy" or a "dramedy" because of the dramatic subject material often presented.[3] The show was an ensemble piece revolving around key personnel in a United States Army Mobile Army Surgical Hospital (MASH; the asterisks in the name are meaningless, a contrivance introduced in the novel) in the Korean War (1950–53). The 4077th MASH was just one of several surgical units in Korea. As the show developed, the writing took on more of a moralistic tone. Hawks' stadium opens with fanfare

Fans have a chance to tour new Seahawks Stadium for free today and tomorrow, from noon to 7 p.m.
Beginning Tuesday through Aug. 4, fans can tour the stadium before each Mariner home game.
"Once we launch into the Sounders soccer game on July 28, fans will have to have tickets to enjoy the stadium," said Suanne Pelley, communications manager for First and Goal Inc.
The on-field festivities this weekend include local bands performing live, stadium tours that will take fans to areas they can't see during games, and football, soccer and cheerleading clinics. Current and former Seahawks players, the Sea Gals and the Sounders will be at the stadium, signing autographs, posing for photos and participating in interactive clinics.
"The public owns the facility," Pelley said. "These are two great days to celebrate the new stadium and take advantage of an opportunity to be down on the field."

Soccer, Shows, And Even Football -- Initial Ads Backing Seahawk Stadium Focus On Other Uses

A football stadium for the Seahawks? If you thought that's what you'd be voting on June 17, it would be hard to tell from the first statewide advertisements run by supporters of Referendum 48.
Full-page ads that ran yesterday in Seattle's two major newspapers and in most other dailies around the state feature a picture depicting a World Cup soccer match inside the proposed $425 million, open-air stadium complex.
The new facility, promises the ad, could host professional and amateur soccer, trade shows and community festivals, and maybe even the Olympics.
And, the ad notes, professional and college football.
Only once, well down in the text, does it mention the Seattle Seahawks, even though the team's prospective owner, Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen, is paying for the balloting.
"It is the challenge of the campaign to convince voters that this is (about) more than just 10 home games for the Seahawks," said Don McDonough, a pollster who is working for the pro-stadium forces.
After kicking off the pro-stadium campaign last week, yesterday's newspaper advertisements were the opening media salvo. Television ads are to begin around next Tuesday for what is expected to be a $2 million to $3 million campaign waged by Allen.

Soccer, Shows, And Even Football -- Initial Ads Backing Seahawk Stadium Focus On Other Uses

A football stadium for the Seahawks? If you thought that's what you'd be voting on June 17, it would be hard to tell from the first statewide advertisements run by supporters of Referendum 48.
Full-page ads that ran yesterday in Seattle's two major newspapers and in most other dailies around the state feature a picture depicting a World Cup soccer match inside the proposed $425 million, open-air stadium complex.
The new facility, promises the ad, could host professional and amateur soccer, trade shows and community festivals, and maybe even the Olympics.
And, the ad notes, professional and college football.
Only once, well down in the text, does it mention the Seattle Seahawks, even though the team's prospective owner, Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen, is paying for the balloting.
"It is the challenge of the campaign to convince voters that this is (about) more than just 10 home games for the Seahawks," said Don McDonough, a pollster who is working for the pro-stadium forces.
After kicking off the pro-stadium campaign last week, yesterday's newspaper advertisements were the opening media salvo. Television ads are to begin around next Tuesday for what is expected to be a $2 million to $3 million campaign waged by Allen.

Soccer, Shows, And Even Football -- Initial Ads Backing Seahawk Stadium Focus On Other Uses

A football stadium for the Seahawks? If you thought that's what you'd be voting on June 17, it would be hard to tell from the first statewide advertisements run by supporters of Referendum 48.
Full-page ads that ran yesterday in Seattle's two major newspapers and in most other dailies around the state feature a picture depicting a World Cup soccer match inside the proposed $425 million, open-air stadium complex.
The new facility, promises the ad, could host professional and amateur soccer, trade shows and community festivals, and maybe even the Olympics.
And, the ad notes, professional and college football.
Only once, well down in the text, does it mention the Seattle Seahawks, even though the team's prospective owner, Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen, is paying for the balloting.
"It is the challenge of the campaign to convince voters that this is (about) more than just 10 home games for the Seahawks," said Don McDonough, a pollster who is working for the pro-stadium forces.
After kicking off the pro-stadium campaign last week, yesterday's newspaper advertisements were the opening media salvo. Television ads are to begin around next Tuesday for what is expected to be a $2 million to $3 million campaign waged by Allen.

When she tells Jed, he thinks it is a result of her moonshine. But Granny finally is shown that it isn’t a monster, but Jethro. Jed decides that Jethro needs some type of guidance, so he calls Miss Jane, who tells Drysdale. Drysdale decides to get Jethro interested in comic books, and after reading those, Jethro decides to get a rocket and go to the moon, thinking there are beautiful Moon Maidens up there. He decides to use Granny’s flu serum as his fuel and launches himself up. This makes the news, and the Clampetts, Drysdale, and Jane watch as Jethro says his words thinking he is at the moon. And Drysdale sees the bill for Jethro’s rocket, which turns him all green, just like Money Man.

Soccer, Shows, And Even Football -- Initial Ads Backing Seahawk Stadium Focus On Other Uses

A football stadium for the Seahawks? If you thought that's what you'd be voting on June 17, it would be hard to tell from the first statewide advertisements run by supporters of Referendum 48.
Full-page ads that ran yesterday in Seattle's two major newspapers and in most other dailies around the state feature a picture depicting a World Cup soccer match inside the proposed $425 million, open-air stadium complex.
The new facility, promises the ad, could host professional and amateur soccer, trade shows and community festivals, and maybe even the Olympics.
And, the ad notes, professional and college football.
Only once, well down in the text, does it mention the Seattle Seahawks, even though the team's prospective owner, Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen, is paying for the balloting.
"It is the challenge of the campaign to convince voters that this is (about) more than just 10 home games for the Seahawks," said Don McDonough, a pollster who is working for the pro-stadium forces.
After kicking off the pro-stadium campaign last week, yesterday's newspaper advertisements were the opening media salvo. Television ads are to begin around next Tuesday for what is expected to be a $2 million to $3 million campaign waged by Allen.

Protection racket
A protection racket is an extortion scheme whereby a powerful entity or individual coerces other less powerful entities or individuals to pay protection money which allegedly serves to purchase "protection" services against various external threats.
Those who do not buy into the protection plan are often targeted by criminals existing inside or outside of the organization. These crimes are typically thought to originate from the organization itself. NASA Maps the Moon With Google
MOFFETT FIELD, Calif. - New higher-resolution lunar imagery and maps that include NASA multimedia content now are available on the Google Moon Web site.
Updates include new content from the Apollo missions, including dozens of embedded panoramic images, links to audio clips and videos, and descriptions of the astronauts' activities during the missions. The new content is overlaid on updated, higher-resolution lunar maps. Also added are detailed charts of different regions of the moon suitable for use by anyone simulating a lunar mission.
"NASA's objective is for Google Moon to become a more accurate and useful lunar mapping platform that will be a foundation for future web-based moon applications, much like the many applications that have been built on top of Google Maps," said Chris C. Kemp, director of strategic business development at NASA's Ames Research Center, Moffett Field, Calif. "This will make it easier for scientists everywhere to make lunar data more available and accessible."
Google Moon's visible imagery and topography are aligned with the recently updated lunar coordinate system and can be used for scientifically accurate mission planning and data analysis. The new site is designed to be user-friendly and encourage the exchange of data and ideas among scientists and amateur astronomers.
This announcement closely follows the release of new NASA content in Google Earth, including photographs taken by NASA astronauts and imagery from NASA's Earth observing satellite sensors, such as the Sea-viewing Wide Field of View Sensor, Landsat and the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectrometer.

The Announcement
On 22 January, Admiral Moorer reviewed matters with the Director and Vice Admiral Weinel, then made the following diary entry: “It is ridiculous that we are operating in such a vacuum; the North Vietnamese and the South Vietnamese have a hell of a lot more information than we do right now. Secret negotiations are one thing, however, secret results are another.” The next morning, Moorer received a copy of the agreement and protocols about ten minutes before they were released to the public.
Dr. Kissinger returned to Paris on 22 January, and the following day, he and Le Duc Tho met in a private session at the International Conference Center in the old Majestic Hotel, the site of the plenary Paris peace talks. They emerged from the meeting without public comment but waved at newsmen and shook hands “enthusiastically” for the television cameras. Shortly thereafter, it was announced in Washington that the President would speak to the nation that evening.
In a television address at 2200 on 23 January 1973, President Nixon announced that an agreement had been concluded to end the war and bring “peace with honor” in Vietnam and Southeast Asia. He read the following statement that was being issued simultaneously in Hanoi:
At 12:30 Paris time today, January 23, 1973, the Agreement on Ending the War and Restoring Peace in Vietnam was initialed by Dr. Henry Kissinger on behalf of the United States, and Special Adviser Le Duc Tho on behalf of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam.
The agreement will be formally signed by the parties participating in the Paris Conference on Vietnam on January 27, 1973, at the International Conference Center in Paris.
The cease-fire will take effect at 2400 Greenwich Mean Time, January 27, 1973. The United States and the Democratic Republic of Vietnam express the hope that this agreement will insure stable peace in Vietnam and contribute to the preservation of lasting peace in Indochina and Southeast Asia.
President Nixon then proceeded to characterize the agreement, the text of which, with accompanying protocols, would be released the next day. An internationally supervised cease-fire would begin at 1900 on 27 January, and within 60 days of that date all Americans held prisoner throughout Indochina would be released. During the same 60-day period, all US forces would withdraw from South Vietnam. Moreover, the President said: “the people of South Vietnam have been guaranteed the right to determine their own future, without outside interference.”
