WASHINGTON (NNS) -- Selected officers and Sailors will begin limited wear testing of new uniform proto types, service dress khaki for chiefs and officers and service dress blue and white for E-6 and below, late this fall or early winter.
“The service dress khaki uniform is in a traditional style, last worn during the Vietnam era,” said Robert Carroll, head, Uniform Matters Office.

The most visible change of the uniform is adding blue piping along the cuffs and the collar. Following the destruction of the Colonies, the refugee fleet led by Galactica has been relentlessly chased by the Cylons who pop up every 33 minutes to attack again, and have been doing so for five days straight. 33 minutes gives them barely long enough to calculate a jump and distribute the coordinates to each ship. The perpetual attacks and jumps to escape prevent anyone from sleeping for very long, even if they aren't involved in keeping the fleet moving. The equipment is also stressed to the point that, finally, a passenger ship called the 'Olympic Carrier' is left behind, rebooting their jump computer when the jump is executed. When the Olympic Carrier suddenly jumps in to rejoin the fleet some time later, it seems certain that the ship must have been infiltrated.

2001: A Space Odyssey (1968) is a science fiction novel by Arthur C. Clarke. It was developed concurrently with Stanley Kubrick's film version and published after the release of the film.
Bowman spends months on the ship, alone, slowly approaching Iapetus. A return to Earth is now out of the question, as Hal's sudden decompression of Discovery severely damaged the ship's air filtration system, leaving Bowman with far less breathable air than either returning to Earth or waiting for a rescue ship would require, and hibernation is impossible without Hal to monitor it. During his long approach, he gradually notices a small black spot on the surface of Iapetus. When he gets closer, he realizes that this is an immense black monolith, identical in shape to TMA-1, only much larger. The scientists back on Earth name this monolith "TMA-2," which name Bowman points out is a double misnomer because it is not on the moon and gives off no magnetic force whatsoever.
He decides to go out in one of the extra-vehicular pods to make a closer inspection of the monolith. Programmed for just such an occurrence, the monolith reveals its true purpose as a star gate when it opens and pulls in Bowman's pod. Before he vanishes, Mission control hears him proclaim: "The thing's hollow--it goes on forever--and--oh my God--it's full of stars!"
Bowman is transported via the monolith to a star system far outside our galaxy. During this journey, he goes through a large interstellar switching station, and sees other species' spaceships going on other routes; he dubs it the 'Grand Central Station' of the universe.

WASHINGTON (NNS) -- Selected officers and Sailors will begin limited wear testing of new uniform proto types, service dress khaki for chiefs and officers and service dress blue and white for E-6 and below, late this fall or early winter.
“The service dress khaki uniform is in a traditional style, last worn during the Vietnam era,” said Robert Carroll, head, Uniform Matters Office.

The most visible change of the uniform is adding blue piping along the cuffs and the collar. WASHINGTON (NNS) -- Wear testing for the proposed Service Dress Khaki uniform has commenced in six major Navy communities as per NAVADMIN 070/06.
The wear test encompasses commands in Washington, D.C.; Norfolk; Millington, Tenn.; Newport, R.I.; Yokosuka, Japan; and Pearl Harbor.
Then-Chief of Naval Operations, (CNO), Adm. Mike Mullen, authorized the wear testing of the new uniforms for chiefs and officers in March 2006, shortly before turning over his position to current CNO, Adm. Gary Roughead.
The style of the Service Dress Khaki is reminiscent of the uniform worn during World War II and Vietnam eras, according to Robert Carroll, Head of Navy's Uniform Matters Office.

At approximately 4:20 p.m. EST, Eagle 1, a United States Park Police Bell 206L-1 Long Ranger helicopter, N2PP, based at the "Eagles Nest" at Anacostia Park in Washington, D.C. and manned by pilot Donald W. Usher and paramedic Melvin E. (Gene) Windsor arrived and began attempting to assist the survivors to shore. At great risk to themselves, the crew worked close to the river surface, at one time coming so close to the ice-clogged river that the helicopter's skids went beneath the surface of the water.
The helicopter crew lowered a line to survivors to tow them to shore. First to receive the line, Bert Hamilton, who was treading water about ten feet from the floating tail, took the single lifeline dangling beneath the chopper and passed it under his arms. The others watched while the helicopter carried him a hundred yards to the Virginia shore and returned. The helicopter pilot had to gently move the survivor across the ice, while avoiding the sides of the bridge and keeping an eye on the crowd.
