Modern US Navy Guided Missile Cruisers perform primarily in a Battle Force role. These ships are multi-mission (AAW, ASW, ASUW) surface combatants capable of supporting carrier or battleship battle groups, amphibious forces, or of operating independently and as flagships of surface action groups. Due to their extensive combat capability, these ships have been designated as Battle Force Capable (BFC) units.
The primary mission of Belknap-class was to provide anti-air (AAW) and anti-surface (ASUW) defense for aircraft carrier task force
Designed to operate at high speed for extended periods of time in support of long range Battle Group operations, the Belknap-class was fitted with air search radars and a weapons direction system that uses digital computers. This system processed data on air targets and feeds it to the missile fire control and launching systems in order to aim and fire extended range standard missiles at any attacking aircraft or missile.

Belknap Class
The final DLG class, the Belknap, was an expanded version of the Leahy class with new radar, sonar and dynamic roll stabilization on a 547' hull, 23 feet longer than the Leahys. The design incorporated a hangars and flight deck for the new drone anti-submarine helicopters (DASH) and a single 5-inch/54 caliber gun mounted aft. ASROC were launched by the single Terrier missile battery forward. The Farragut propulsion machinery was retained.
Nine ships were built. Big and beautiful, they were the most seaworthy and successful of the DLGs.

Some vessels like Aegis cruisers are as much a threat to aircraft as any land-based air defence system. In general, naval vessels should be treated with respect by aircraft, however the reverse is equally true. Carrier battle groups are especially well defended, as not only do they typically consist of many vessels with heavy air defence armament but they are also able to launch fighter jets for combat air patrol overhead to intercept incoming airborne threats.

When commissioned, the main armament of the Belknap class was a 5 inch/54-caliber Mk. 42 gun on the quarterdeck and a twin-rail RIM-2 Terrier Mk 10 Missile Launcher on the foredeck. The class used two twin 3"/50 caliber guns for AAW. During the NTU program in the late 1980s and early 1990s, the class had its Terrier systems upgraded to utilize standard missiles, the 3 inch guns were replaced with two Harpoon missile launchers, and two Phalanx CIWS systems were installed.

The UNIVAC 418 was a transistorized, 18-bit word core memory machine made by Sperry Univac. The name came from its 4 microsecond memory cycle time and 18-bit word.
Architecture
Numbers were represented in ones' complement, single and double precision. The TRIM assembly source code used octal numbers as opposed to more common hexadecimal[citation needed] because the 18-bit words are evenly divisible by 3, but not by 4.

The first UNIVAC 418-II was delivered in November 1964. It was available with 4,096 to 65,536 (18-bit) words of memory. Memory cycle time was reduced to 2 microseconds. The militarized version was called the UNIVAC 1219 (known as the "Mk 152 Fire Control Computer.") Synopsis
Commander Tucker and Lt. Reed have been on a mission to test the targeting scanners on Shuttlepod 1, requiring them to fly the craft at least 20,000 kilometers from Enterprise. During their trials they experienced an unusual jolt that disabled their sensor array and com system, forcing them to return early to the asteroid field where Enterprise has been engaged in a mapping project. Upon arriving at the rendezvous point, the two men are shocked to find a field of debris on an asteroid's surface, including a hull fragment that is unmistakably a piece of Enterprise.

I am not certain which of the scars on my arms, although there aren't many of them, are bullet wounds, and which ones were caused from a power drill the Libyan's used on me in 1986. I am quite certain that scar on my left hand is from a power drill bit and at least one other scar on my right arm might be from a power drill, but it could be from a smaller caliber bullet.

I have also noted what seems to be a long incision wound on my right hand that is near the scar on the inside of my wrist. For a long time, I thought it was just a scratch that had occured around the time I noted it but the nature of the scar has not changed in a long time and I understand now it is a scar. It looks as though it is the kind of scar a very sharp blade would make.

from 2/22/1976 to that premiere date has a 1+n+n association with me and 12/24/1968. I am not certain if that was the objective for that episode but I found myself lingering on this association. I have also found that I am still somewhat uncertain about the dates 2/22/1976 and 2/26/1976.

They didn't know I was only on the planet Mars for 3 days. They thought I was going to be there for much longer. Months, perhaps. They didn't know I had such a fast spaceship. I am not certain whether they knew the date I actually landed on the planet Mars and were thinking I wasn't going to land until the same time as Viking 1. I don't know. I am confused slightly about what some people might have thought I was doing out there.

What I think I was doing was recording all the video of me on the planet Mars and then I was going to play that back in late July 1976 to pass it off as my first landing on the planet.
I would not have been so deceptive but I wanted my son to see it as it happened, or nearly as it happened, but I could not explain how I got to the planet Mars in 80 days.
At least, I think that is how it was going to work. I don't know.

The only way to explain how I got to the planet Mars in 80 days would mean I would have to explain why I was using a nuclear-pulse propulsion spaceship and that opened up a tremendous amount of other questions.
I am not certain why I could not just explain that I had left Earth before 11/2/1975 so that I could land on the planet Mars on 1/21/1976. I don't know why that was not the cover story. Probably because of other dependancies associated with my mission and how we were explaining certain activity with my mission.

These stories about drunk space shuttle astronauts makes me think that was a long-standing joke with me during the Gemini 12 and Apollo space flights. I also think of that scene in "Top Gun" where "Maverick" says he needs a beer to put out the flames and I think that is relevant to 1976. I keep thinking that I had a major fire in my Orion ship on 2/22/1976 and I lated transmitted back to Earth a joke that I was able to put out the fire in my clothes because I had an open beer bottle as I was sitting in the command chair of the Orion ship.

PEARL HARBOR, Hawaii (NNS) -- The Los Angeles-class submarine USS San Francisco (SSN 711) ran aground while conducting submerged operations approximately 350 miles south of the island of Guam today.
The incident occurred at approximately 4 p.m., Jan. 7, Hawaii Standard Time (12 noon, Jan. 8, Guam Time).
The extent of the injuries and damage aboard San Francisco is still being assessed, but includes one critical injury and several other lesser injuries. The submarine is on the surface and is making best speed back to its homeport in Guam.
There were no reports of damage to the reactor plant which is operating normally.

November 22, 1975: The USS Belknap (CG 26) collides with the USS John F. Kennedy (CV 67)
This collision is notable for the extensive damage the Belknap sustained. During operations in the Ionian Sea, the Belknap and John F. Kennedy collided. A burst pipe sent fuel onto the guided-missile cruiser, and a massive fire melted the Belknap’s aluminum superstructure.
Eight sailors died, and 48 were injured. This collision actually has shaped the ship that is the backbone of the fleet today. After studying the collision and fire, the Navy decided to make the Arleigh Burke-class destroyers out of steel.

SARAJEVO, Bosnia-Herzegovina — Bosnia's Serbs and the Muslim-led government agreed to a pause in their war beginning today, but the deal fell short of what former U.S. President Jimmy Carter had hoped for.
Fighting appeared to ebb across Bosnia on Friday, and the United Nations reported no civilian casualties. The rebel Serb leader, Radovan Karadzic, said his troops will hold their fire unless fired at, even before the weeklong truce begins at noon today (3 a.m. PST), the Bosnian Serb news agency SRNA reported.
Carter left Sarajevo this week after getting both sides to agree to a four-month truce that was supposed to begin Friday. But talks bogged down as Yasushi Akashi, the U.N. chief for the former Yugoslavia, tried to work out details.
The Serbs and the government agreed in principle to a four-month truce, and they were to use the cease-fire starting today to work out the longer truce.
Until a comprehensive, four-month truce is reached, there will be no discussions about an international peace plan that is supposed to be the basis of their talks. The plan would require the Serbs to reduce their holdings in Bosnia to 49% from the 70% they now occupy.
Bosnia's government wants the Serbs to agree to the plan, which the Serbs repeatedly have rejected, before talking about any modifications. The Serbs want to talk without first approving the plan.
Even in agreeing to the brief truce, the two sides refused to sign the same document. Both documents called for the cease-fire, but had different language regarding the release of prisoners and information about missing persons. That meant there would be no quick release of thousands of prisoners of war that Carter said had been agreed to.
Both sides took out a sentence referring to future negotiations on the international peace plan because they could not settle on the wording.
"Semantics sometimes acquires its own momentum and tends to become a monster," said Akashi.

Among the myriad sleeping dreams I tossed and turned through trying to sleep last night was one that stayed with me through the night, seeming to resurface more than once as I tried to sleep.
