The drive back here to Renton was just as interesting as the drive out there yesterday. After driving a car for the first time in over 8 years I find that I don’t really miss it that much. Especially the gas prices!
That other apartment does interest me.
Is that another one that is presently occupied?
Same time for move-in?
I know that I’ll sleep much better on the top floor. I have a sunken floor now here in Renton and I get up many times during the night looking around corners.

SPOKANE, Wash. -- The former Macy's building is now the M Apartments. The new luxury apartment complex will start leasing units this summer, but KREM 2 got a sneak peak on Tuesday.
The M Apartments were purchased by Centennial Property Management in 2016. Since then, the building has undergone renovation.
The building includes 114 units, numerous floor plans, two fitness centers, a business center, two lounge/game rooms, a yoga studio, a theater room, pet amenities and a rooftop deck and kitchen.
Pricing for the apartments starts at $1,300 per unit and vary based on square footage and floor plans.
The first level of apartments will be available for move-in by mid-July.
Pre-leasing for the apartments is available on the website.

Hubble revisits an old friend
Supernova SN 1987A, one of the brightest stellar explosions since the invention of the telescope more than 400 years ago, is no stranger to the NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope. The observatory has been on the frontline of studies into this brilliant dying star since its launch in 1990, three years after the supernova exploded on 23 February 1987. This image of Hubble’s old friend, retreived from the telescope’s data archive, may be the best ever of this object, and reminds us of the many mysteries still surrounding it.
Dominating this picture are two glowing loops of stellar material and a very bright ring surrounding the dying star at the centre of the frame. Although Hubble has provided important clues on the nature of these structures, their origin is still largely unknown.
Another mystery is that of the missing neutron star. The violent death of a high-mass star, such as SN 1987A, leaves behind a stellar remnant — a neutron star or a black hole. Astronomers expect to find a neutron star in the remnants of this supernova, but they have not yet been able to peer through the dense dust to confirm it is there.
The supernova belongs to the Large Magellanic Cloud, a nearby galaxy about 168 000 light-years away. Even though the stellar explosion took place around 166 000 BC, its light arrived here less than 25 years ago.
This picture is based on observations done with the High Resolution Channel of Hubble’s Advanced Camera for Surveys. The field of view is approximately 25 by 25 arcseconds.

JUPITER'S MOON CALLISTO MAY HIDE SALTY OCEAN
Jupiter's second largest moon, Callisto, may have a liquid ocean tucked under its icy, cratered crust, according to scientists studying data gathered by NASA's Galileo spacecraft.
The Galileo findings, to be published in the Oct. 22 issue of the journal Nature, reveal similarities between Callisto and another of Jupiter's moons, Europa, which has already displayed strong evidence of a subsurface ocean.
"Until now, we thought Callisto was a dead and boring moon, just a hunk of rock and ice," said Dr. Margaret Kivelson, space physics professor at the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA) and principal investigator for Galileo's magnetometer instrument, which measures magnetic fields around Jupiter and its moons. "The new data certainly suggest that something is hidden below Callisto's surface, and that something may very well be a salty ocean."

STS-34 was a space shuttle mission by NASA using the Space Shuttle Atlantis. It was the 31st shuttle mission, and the 5th flight for Atlantis. It carried the Galileo probe bound for Jupiter.
The Space Shuttle Atlantis lifted off from Pad B, Launch Complex 39, KSC, at 12:53 p.m. EDT on Oct. 18, 1989. It carried the Jupiter-bound Galileo spacecraft in its cargo bay.
The first major task in orbit was deployment of the Galileo spacecraft with its attached IUS booster. Deployment occurred on schedule at 7:15 EDT, slightly more than six hours after launch, and the IUS performed flawlessly to send the spacecraft toward Venus on the first leg of its six-year journey to Jupiter.

I wonder if 12/11/1997 was the date I instructed the Galileo team to officially announce the discovery of oxygen on Callisto. Since I had already discovered oxygen at that moon in 1976, but since my discovery was still classified because on certain criteria, I had postive control over such news about Callisto and the other planetary locations I had traveled. I also gathered a tremendous amount of scientific information about those planets when I was there but that is completely under my control.

RAMSTEIN, Germany (July 10, 2013) -- One of the U.S. military's biggest accomplishments in post-war Europe was unintentional: the music the GIs listened to on the radio made a deep, positive impact on Europeans that continues today.
Prior to AFN's arrival, Nazi Germany had banned most American music, as "decadent," and even after the Americans first arrived, state-run German radio didn't play English language music. When rebuilding began after World War II, American Soldiers seldom mixed with locals. Regulations prohibited it and few spoke the local language.
But some curious Europeans chose to invite the GIs' radio station into their home, car or restaurant: the American Forces Network Europe, known throughout the world as AFN. Many Europeans wanted to hear the rich diversity of jazz, blues, country and rock music that wasn't airing on their country's radio stations.
AFN never intended or tried to broadcast to host nationals. As a matter of fact, the network took extraordinary measures to not reach them.
AFN's linked radio transmitters used special broadcast patterns targeted where the Americans were stationed, the music and the talk was all in English and most transmitters were low-powered, so planners didn't think many people living in Germany, Italy, France, Austria or Belgium would bother tuning in.
But they did.
Historian Dr. John Provan said a survey in AFN's early years indicated the military network was reaching a potential listening audience of 50 million Europeans.
AFN began broadcasting from locations in France, Austria, Italy, Germany and Belgium, and was heard, despite restrictions, in Paris, Vienna, Frankfurt, Berlin, Munich and other major population centers. While many transmitters were low-powered, some were "sound monsters," with the Munich and Weisskirchen, Germany, AM transmitters reaching much of Europe.
At night, the Weisskirchen signal skipped across the English Channel into the United Kingdom. AFN first broadcast from BBC studios in London on July 4, 1943
