Leela is feeling lonely, unable to meet a worthwhile guy. Professor Farnsworth sends the crew on a tax-deductible charity mission to evacuate wildlife from the doomed planet Burgon 6. While approaching the planet, Leela is thrilled to meet the legendary Captain Zapp Brannigan, who is policing the sector. Upon closer inspection, Brannigan turns out to be a pompous dimwit (who also thinks he's God's gift to women). Brannigan throws the Planet Express crew in jail for violating the planet's security cordon, but tries to seduce Leela. When his clumsy attempts to appear suave and sophisticated fail, he scores with pathetic crying. Leela gets the crew released, and they collect wildlife from Burgon 6, but the mission fails when the last animal collected turns out to be a tiny, voracious killing machine that consumes all the other animals. Leela names him Nibbler. Trapped on the collapsing planet without fuel, Leela refuses to go crawling back to Zapp. Then
Nibbler excretes a lump of combustible rocket fuel, and the ship is saved.

Project Orion was the first engineering design study of a spacecraft powered by nuclear pulse propulsion, an idea first proposed by Stanislaw Ulam in 1947. The project, initiated in 1958, was led by Ted Taylor at General Atomics and physicist Freeman Dyson, who at Taylor's request took a year away from Princeton's Institute for Advanced Study to work on the project. The first such think-tank of its kind since the Manhattan Project, Project Orion is recalled by many of its team as representing the best years of their lives.
By using energetic nuclear power, Orion offered both high thrust and high specific impulse — the holy grail of spacecraft propulsion. It offered performance greater than the most advanced conventional or nuclear rocket engines now under study. Cheap interplanetary travel was the goal of the Orion Project. Its supporters felt that it had great potential for space travel, but it lost political approval because of concerns with fallout from its propulsion. The Partial Test Ban Treaty of 1963 is generally acknowledged to have ended the project.
Orion's potential performance was stunning, at least compared to today's chemical or even other nuclear designs. Jerry Pournelle, who is acquainted with the project and its ex-team leader Freeman Dyson, has been quoted as saying that a single mission could have provided us with a large permanent moon base. Alternatively an Orion could reach Pluto and return to Earth inside of a year. Single stage to Mars and back also seemed to be possible.

Born: 13 April 1942, Milwaukee, Wis. Citation: While on a flight over North Vietnam, Capt. Sijan ejected from his disabled aircraft and successfully evaded capture for more than 6 weeks. During this time, he was seriously injured and suffered from shock and extreme weight loss due to lack of food. After being captured by North Vietnamese soldiers, Capt. Sijan was taken to a holding point for subsequent transfer to a prisoner of war camp. In his emaciated and crippled condition, he overpowered 1 of his guards and crawled into the jungle, only to be recaptured after several hours. He was then transferred to another prison camp where he was kept in solitary confinement and interrogated at length. During interrogation, he was severely tortured; however, he did not divulge any
information to his captors. Capt. Sijan lapsed into delirium and was placed in the care of another prisoner. During his intermittent periods of consciousness until his death, he never complained of his physical condition and, on several occasions, spoke of future escape attempts. Capt. Sijan's extraordinary heroism and intrepidity above and beyond the call of duty at the cost of his life are in keeping with the highest traditions of the U.S. Air Force and reflect great credit upon himself and the U.S. Armed Forces.

Norris, on the night of 10 April, led a 5-man patrol through 2,000 meters of heavily controlled enemy territory, located 1 of the downed pilots at daybreak, and returned to the Forward Operating Base (FOB). On 11 April, after a devastating mortar and rocket attack on the small FOB, Lt. Norris led a 3-man team on 2 unsuccessful rescue attempts for the second pilot. On the afternoon of the 12th, a forward air controller located the pilot and notified Lt. Norris. Dressed in fishermen disguises
and using a sampan, Lt. Norris and 1 Vietnamese traveled throughout that night and found the injured pilot at dawn. Covering the pilot with bamboo and vegetation, they began the return journey, successfully evading a North Vietnamese patrol. Approaching the FOB, they came under heavy machinegun fire. Lt. Norris called in an air strike which provided suppression fire and a smoke screen, allowing the rescue party to reach the FOB. By his outstanding display of decisive leadership, undaunted courage, and selfless dedication in the face of extreme danger, Lt. Norris enhanced the finest traditions of the U.S. Naval Service.

The crisis ended with the signing of the Algiers Accords in Algeria on January 19, 1981. The hostages were formally released into United States custody the following day. The release took place just minutes after Ronald Reagan was officially sworn in as Carter’s successor.

Terry Deitz Biography:
Born on October 10, 1959 in Matawan, New Jersey, Terry Deitz is a graduate of St. John Vianney High School, where he was quarterback for the football team, a catcher for the baseball team and a member of the wresting team. Deitz studied at the United States Naval Academy for 4 years, afterwhich he became a pilot for the U.S. Navy. He first learned to fly a Navy T-34 turbo prop at the US Navy Flight School in Florida, and after earning jet grades, was sent to Meridian, Mississippi for his T-2 and T-A4 advanced jet training. After he obtained his Navy wings, he was ordered to NAS Miramar in San Diego, California, for training in the F-14 Tomcat, which he later flew as a pilot with the Fighter Squadron-51. After he was honorably discharged from the Navy, he became a commercial pilot for American Airlines. Deitz enjoys playing little league baseball, football and basketball. He received All County and All Conference awards and made All-State Baseball 1st
Team and was Varsity Captain for three sports. He was also an avid swimmer and a member of the dive team. He has two children, Kayla and Daniel, with his wife, Trish.
As a cast member on Survivor: Panama-Exile Island, Deitz, a La Mina tribe member up until the tribe merge, was one of the strongest competitors, having won 5 immunity challenges and the reward challenge that won him a much-needed visit from his family. Terry made it all the way to the Final 3, but was finally voted off the island courtesy of Danielle, who thought that she had a better chance of beating Aras, come the final tribal council.
