Every time I saw a photo on the Seattle television news of Nicole Pietz, as she was reported as missing, I thought to myself she resembled Laura Mason. Laura Mason was a woman I was working with from my first days at Microsoft Corporation with my official United States federal undercover identity. She was assigned to me in early 1999 as my mentor, to help me learn the requirements of my role as a Technical Account Manager (TAM) with Microsoft Premier Support for Enterprise. She told me she was a U.S. Navy officer in the Reserves and that she held the rank of Commander and was a crew person in the EA-6B Prowler electronic warfare aircraft. One person told me she was a pilot but I responded that from what Laura Mason told me, she was a crewperson on that platform.
I also noted that her body was found on February 6th.

Body of missing woman found in Burien
A Lynnwood-area woman who vanished five days before her 33rd birthday was found dead Monday in a wooded area of Burien.
Nicole Pietz was reported missing Jan. 29. Her body is believed to have been in the neighborhood, about two blocks west of South 144th Street and Des Moines Memorial Drive South, for at least a week

Retaliation
There was some retaliation. Libya responded by firing several Scud missiles at U.S. Coast Guard stations on the Italian island of Lampedusa which exploded far short of their targets. In Beirut, Lebanon, two British hostages held by the Abu Nidal Organization, Alec Collett and Leigh Douglas, along with an American named Philip Padfield were hanged in revenge. In addition, journalist John McCarthy was kidnapped and tourist Paul Appleby was murdered in Jerusalem.
Gaddafi quashed an internal revolt, the organization of which he blamed on the United States. Although Gaddafi appeared to have left the public sphere for a while in 1986/87, it later emerged that he had significantly increased Libyan arms shipments to terrorist groups in this period – especially to the Provisional IRA.
The Libyan government was behind the Pan Am 73 hijack on September 5, 1986 which was carried out in retaliation for the U.S. bombing as reported by The Sunday Times (London) days after British Prime Minister Tony Blair's state visit to Tripoli in March 2004.
Then came the bombing of Pan Am Flight 103 on December 21, 1988. Iran was initially thought to have been responsible for the Lockerbie bombing but two Libyans were charged in 1991, one of whom was convicted for the crime on January 31, 2001.

The Iran hostage crisis was a diplomatic crisis between Iran and the United States that was triggered by a group of militant university students who took over the U.S. diplomatic mission in Tehran on November 4, 1979. The students were supported by Iran’s post-revolutionary regime that was in the midst of solidifying power. The students objected to U.S. influence in Iran and its support of the recently fallen Shah of Iran, Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, who had been restored to power by a CIA funded coup in 1953. Pahlavi had replaced the democratically-elected prime minister Mohammad Mossadegh, who had attempted to overthrow the Shah and was feared by the Americans and British to be too close with the Soviet Union. They held 63 U.S. diplomats and three other U.S. citizens hostage until January 20, 1981. Of those captured, 52 were held hostage until the conclusion of the crisis 444 days later.[1] These actions are often considered a violation of the
long-standing principle of international law that diplomats are immune from arrest and that diplomatic compounds such as embassies are considered the absolute sovereign territory of the occupying country as granted by the host country, and as such, hostile incursions into the compound by elements of the host country are akin to acts of war.
The ordeal reached its climax when the United States military attempted a rescue operation on April 24, 1980. The failure of Operation Eagle Claw resulted in the deaths of five United States Air Force Airmen and three U.S. Marines. Some political analysts believe the crisis was the primary reason for U.S. President Jimmy Carter's defeat in the U.S. presidential election in November 1980.[2]
The crisis ended with the signing of the Algiers Accords in Algeria on January 19, 1981. The hostages were formally released into United States custody the following day. The release took place just minutes after Ronald Reagan was officially sworn in as Carter’s successor.
