[I had talked to several people over the years about the difference of Bahrain and Palma. We went from walking around in Bahrain where the women were wearing the veils and robes to the topless beaches of Palma. There is that segment in this episode where the veiled women are dancing in the sand. Don't care much for the notion that those were men turned into women though. There was also that chick in Barcelona back in Nov. 1989.]

"Four Sweet Years of Love" lyrics:
Had a girl in every port
From here to Barcelona
But now I'm docked in Springfield,
And girl, I'm gonna phone ya.
Stormed a lot of beaches,
But you're the one that I miss,
Let's get back together girl,
Let's re-enlist!
(Bart: Oww! Hot hot hot!)
So sign me up
For a hitch of love
Recruit my heart
Four sweet years of love!
(speaking) Bart:Everybody ball-walk!
They march all day,
and clean latrines all night,
• synthesizer shuts down*
Don't bust me down,
Let's re-up tonight!
• puzzled looks*
Let's re-up tonight!

Sunk by Windows NT
Jul, 24, 1998
While Microsoft continues to trumpet the success of its NT operating system over Unix-based systems, the US Navy is having second thoughts about putting NT at the helm. A system failure on the USS Yorktown last September temporarily paralyzed the cruiser, leaving it stalled in port for the remainder of a weekend.
"For about two-and-a-half hours, the ship was what we call 'dead in the water,'" said Commander John Singley of the Atlantic Fleet Surface Force.

Of course, those women in the robes and veils around us could have been men and we wouldn't have known it.
Also, Microsoft needed some good PR about the U.S. Navy and I seemed to be it. I was drafted into the antitrust fight and so Microsoft needed to counter that somehow. Gates wrote something about "turning bad news into good news" in his book, I forget the title, something about the speed of thought. Which is also why they've been monitoring my email all these years. They could essentially espionage my thoughts and know beforehand if there was going to be any bad news for them.

They wanted me to get into Microsoft after I started that contract work in 1995 but I didn't get that fulltime job in Windows in 1996. I had done a good job supporting Windows 95 but I didn't do so great in the interview. If not for that bad day, I am certain I would have got the job. I suspected Microsoft was tuning in to me shortly after I started there in 1995. Probably because of the way I was talking about the Internet that one day in class shortly after I started. That would have August 1995 I believe. I'm not sure if that was before or after Gates sent that company wide memo about the Internet. Sometimes I read it was in December 1995, other times I've read May 1995. Regardless, Bill Gates is missing a critical component of professionalism in trying to push his company's work out into this country. And I suspect that Ballmer was installed as CEO in response to the antitrust ruling but it was simply because Gates needed someone to fail as CEO. There were several advantages to Ballmer failing as CEO. One was that people would want Gates to be back in control. Of course, he still is control, but I think that being the Chairman of the board is advantageous to him in that he can still has the control that got the company in trouble, but Ballmer would be the one most at risk. It's a win-win for Gates.

And they chose me for my part in investigating Microsoft primarily because no one else would be exposed if I got burned, which was a good possibility. When you try to monitor what turns out to be the mafia, there is a good chance they are going to figure it out. I see hints of a connection they've tried to make but I am not going to be faked in to verifying leaked information. And the consolation prize, for getting burned, is that this demonstrates that on one hand, there needs to be better communications between government agencies but there are too many amateurs and others that don't-need-to-know now in the loop.

MODEST MOUSE
"Invisible"
Oh, well lesson dance
And shoot to god
A storm-suffered owl
You're not invisible inside your car
No matter what stupid sort of mission you're on
Well, you're not invisible inside your car
I go absolutely mental
Good ramblin' George
Well, you're not invisible inside your car
No matter, you could breathe it like your flies in a jar
Yeah, you're not invisible
I like the sailing teeming
Well, it's true that the moon could pull it back and far away from me
I should just let it be
Well, it's true that the moon could pull it back and far away from me
(And it's sad)
Oh, we had to have some kind
Room shaped like a charm
Well, you weren't invisible
Not all along
No matter how many eagles came in the door
We were not invisible
I knew that
I like the sailing teeming
Well, it's true that the moon could pull it back and far away from me
And there's the orphan sea
We were never invisible but that I guess we did not see
Of course this all had been laid down
Way before we lay down for it all
Before we had a course, of course
Of course this all had been laid down
Of course we lay down..
Of course we lay down..
Of course we lay down..
Of course we lay down..
Of course we lay down..
Of course we lay down....
I like the sailing teeming
Well, it's true that the moon could pull it back and far away from me
I like the orphan sea
Well, we were never invisible but that I guess we could not see
We'll get crushed by the ocean
But it will not get us wet
Crushed by the ocean
But it will not get us wet
Crushed by the ocean
But it will not get us wet
Crushed by the ocean
But it will not get us wet
