Bernard Bailey "Bernie" Kerik, CBE, (born September 4, 1955 in Newark, New Jersey) was an American law-enforcement officer. Kerik was Police Commissioner of the City of New York from 2000 to 2001. In December 2004, George W. Bush nominated Kerik as Secretary of Homeland Security. A week later, Kerik withdrew his acceptance, explaining that he had employed an illegal immigrant as a nanny; subsequently, numerous allegations surfaced which might have led to a difficult confirmation battle. In 2006, Kerik pled guilty to two unrelated ethics violations after an investigation by the Bronx District Attorney's Office, and was ordered to pay $221,000. He is currently under federal scrutiny for tax evasion.
Kerik has been married three times but he concealed his first marriage.[1] His present wife since November 1998 is Syrian-born Hala Matli (born February 3, 1972).
He presently lives in Franklin Lakes, New Jersey.
Kerik was appointed the 40th New York City Police Commissioner by Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani on August 21, 2000. He left office at the end of Giuliani's term on December 31, 2001. Kerik's selection came despite the fact that he lacked a college degree - a requirement established in 1985 by then-Commissioner Benjamin Ward for anyone promoted above the rank of Captain. There have been questions raised regarding the fact that the City of New York's Department of Investigations bypassed the normal vetting process in appointing Kerik police commissioner. The accusation among others were that his chief qualification appeared to be that he had served as Giuliani’s driver and bodyguard.
On February 13, 2002, Kerik was appointed an honorary Commander of Order of the British Empire (CBE) by Queen Elizabeth II.
I assume this was done because it was all my family in London could do to point out these guys are part of an effort by organized crime to pirate my identity, which has tremendous commercial value. The law doesn't mean much when the FBI and Justice Department only believe what they are paid to believe, which is a common occurrence in a shake-down by racketeers, which is happening to my family business and identity, which has tremendous commercial value. Bush and Gore play for laughs
As the US presidential election race enters its final weeks, both major party candidates have been attempting to play up their lighter sides.
As part of a gag-laden appearance on the David Letterman show, Republican hopeful George W Bush unveiled a fantasy "to do" list if he is elected to the White House.
This included stocking the library with plenty of large-print books, a self-deprecating reference to his alleged illiteracy, and giving the Oval office "a good scrub" - a thinly veiled allusion to the Monica Lewinsky affair.
Linda Tripp (11/24/1949), of the Monica Lewinsky fame, was 359.3 months old on 11/4/1979, the day the U.S. embassy was overrun in Iran. Monica Lewinsky (7/23/1973) was allegedly - and I believe she was lying about the whole affair - involved in a sexual relationship with President Clinton beginning in November 1995, according to sources on the internet. The Kingdome was an indoor sports and entertainment arena owned and operated by King County, Washington. The Kingdome received its nickname from King County,[1] and was officially known as the King County Domed Stadium and often called the Dome. Before its destruction it was located at the west end of Seattle's Industrial District, just south of Pioneer Square. The building was completed in 1976 on reclaimed tideflat land formerly occupied by the Burlington Northern and Santa Fe Railway's freight yards.
