What that series has started me thinking of is the computer-simulation "Space Engineers" by Keen Software House
Specifically, that rift, or whatever it is, they fell through
"Space Engineers" is still largely in development, as I understand, and the current version is 1.199
But it's rock solid, in my personal experience, and has been since I discovered it last year, just about the time the mainstream-media began blasting us about the pandemic
The program is solid but there are two flaws I've noticed.
The game itself is beautiful
I can't help but wanting to be that little astronaut guy I'm controlling at my computer desktop
Is great enjoyment, if you enjoy flying around in a jet-suit spacesuit and drilling holes in the ground with power-drill
The unmodified version, without the so-called "mods" is fairly benign
You have to be careful to not crush yourself when dumping ore in a confined space, as happened to me once
Otherwise, the only other danger is when flying
The landing-pod, at the beginning of simulation, has spare bottle for fuel for your spacesuit jet-pack
On the Earth-like environment, you really need that spare bottle
Because you take off screaming into the sky and very soon a red message pops up with "Jet fuel critical"
Then you crash to the ground at about 100 meters per second
That about 250 miles per hour
So fuel management is very important on the Earth-like planet
From the basic-program, without mods, the only other danger, disabled by default, is from spiders and wolves
I've never enabled the spiders
I imagine they ascend the columns I built and then when I start popping off rounds at them, I also knock down my supports for power
The wolves cannot climb, that I've seen, so they're fairly easily to evade
I've wondered though if they will sometimes spawn into existence at the top of a structure I've constructed
But they have to be killed. Because they will rip to shreds your little astronaut
Only recently did I decide to start using mods
I recommend using the base-version of Space Engineers and only after much practice, then enable some of the mods from the workshop
Of the 2 flaws I've experienced, one is from a mod
And that's not from the developer of Space Engineers
By now, the problem may be fixed by the mod developer, but I haven't tried it yet
The other observation is the reason for this thread-post by me
In some places on the Earth-like planet in the Star System, there occurs an issue that I have named to myself as a "light leak"
I don't know how voxel-programming works
The world and solar system is beautifully 3-dimensional
I visualize the "light leak" as being a fracture in the fabric of the planet
I'm standing there on the surface during dead of night and suddenly, certain parts of the landscape become illuminated by an unknown source of lighting
Presumably, the issue has been discussed in the forums but I haven't tried to search for it
Has happened to me when underground
There is place on the planet surface I like to start at and that lighting problem always, consistently, happens there
Doesn't really cause any problems, just is weird to see happen sometimes
At certain locations, I see flaws in the surface that I think are the cause of the "light leak"
There's a jagged little streak in the ground at my feet and in the little strip of flawed covering, I can see the stars from the sky, presumably from the other side of the planet
