The first Space Shuttle mission, STS (Space Transportation System)-1, was launched April 12, 1981, and returned April 14. Space Shuttle Columbia orbited the earth 36 times in this 54.5-hour mission.
Not only was this the first launch of the Space Shuttle, but it marked the first time that solid fuel rockets were used for a U.S. manned launch. It was also the first U.S. manned space vehicle launched without an unmanned powered test flight.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vomit_comet
Vomit Comet is a nickname for any airplane that briefly provides a nearly weightless environment in which to train astronauts, conduct research, and film motion pictures. Versions of such airplanes have in the past been operated by NASA's Reduced Gravity Research Program since 1973, where the unofficial nickname originated. NASA then adopted the official nickname Weightless Wonder, for publication.
The airplane produces weightlessness by following a parabolic vertical flight path. A parabolic flight path is the same path that would be taken by an object in free fall, such as a cannonball fired into the air. As a result, the aircraft does not exert any g-force on its contents, so the contents have zero apparent weight relative to the aircraft.
The aircraft heads upward at an angle of 45 degrees. As soon as the pilot begins the rotation into the parabolic trajectory, weightlessness is achieved. This lasts all the way "up-and-over the hump", until the craft reaches a declined angle of 30 degrees. At this point, the craft has lost a significant amount of altitude, and must begin to pull into a hard upward turn. The forces are then roughly twice that of gravity on the way down, at the bottom, and up again. This lasts all the way until the aircraft is again halfway up its upward trajectory, and the pilot again initiates the zero-g parabola.[2]
In general, this aircraft is used to train astronauts in zero-g maneuvers, giving them about 25 seconds of weightlessness out of 65 seconds of flight. This often produces nausea due to airsickness, especially in novices, giving the plane its nickname. Astronauts training for the moon missions practiced walking with 1/6 of their weight to simulate the level of gravity on the moon.
NASA has flown parabolic flights on various aircraft for many years. In 1959, Project Mercury astronauts trained in a C-131 Samaritan aircraft, which was dubbed the "Vomit Comet".
Twin KC-135 Stratotankers were used until December 2004 and have since been retired. One, a KC-135A known as NASA 930, was also used by Universal Pictures and Imagine Entertainment for filming scenes involving weightlessness in the movie Apollo 13; that airplane was retired in 2000 and is now on display at Ellington Field, near the Johnson Space Center. It is estimated to have flown over 58,000 parabolas.

Capricorn One (1978)
Re-released in USA on video October 19, 1994.
The first manned space flight to Mars is a hoax put on by the U.S. government.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Capricorn_One
Capricorn One is a 1978 thriller movie about a Mars landing hoax.
The setting is the late 1970s, and the first manned mission to Mars is on the pad ready to launch. NASA authorities (Holbrook) realize that a faulty life support system has doomed any chance of a successful flight, so for political and financial purposes they decide to fake the landing rather than scrub the mission.
Minutes before launch, the bewildered crew (Brolin, Waterston, and Simpson) are removed from the capsule and flown to an old abandoned United States Army Air Corps base deep within the desert. The televised launch proceeds on schedule, but the public is unaware that the spacecraft (Capricorn One) is unmanned.
At the remote base, the astronauts are informed they will fake the television footage from Mars and it is their patriotic duty to participate. Initially they refuse, but authorities imply their careers and the lives of their families are at stake if they do not cooperate.
The astronauts remain in captivity for a period of several months and are filmed "landing on Mars" within a studio located at the base. The conspiracy is known to only a select few NASA officials, but alert technician Elliot Whittier (Walden) stumbles across something absurdly impossible. The television transmissions are arriving ahead of the spacecraft telemetry. He speaks to a journalist friend Robert Caulfield (Gould) about his concerns.
When Whittier mysteriously disappears, Caulfield becomes suspicious and begins investigating the Mars mission, resulting in several attempts upon his life. Meanwhile back at the abandoned military base, the astronauts begin to realize that if the conspiracy is to remain intact, they will eventually have to be eliminated. The astronauts' suspicions become reality when their empty capsule burns in space during reentry. The captive astronauts immediately stage a daring escape and attempt to evade military forces in order to expose the conspiracy. Stranded in the desert, they try to make their way back to civilization while being pursued by a pair of helicopters.
In the end, Colonel Brubaker (Brolin) is the only crew member to avoid capture. Caulfield's investigation leads him to the desert, where he finds the military base and the set, and with the help of a cropduster pilot (Savalas), he manages to rescue Brubaker. The film ends with Caulfield and Brubaker arriving at the astronauts' memorial service, exposing the conspiracy in dramatic fashion.

Capricorn One is a 1978 thriller movie about a Mars landing hoax. It was written and directed by Peter Hyams and produced by Lew Grade's ITC Entertainment production company for Warner Bros.
Although thematically Capricorn One is a typical 1970s government-conspiracy thriller with similarities to Hyams's subsequent film Outland, the story was inspired by allegations that the Apollo Moon landings were a hoax.

Hurricane Neddy
Original Airdate in U.S.: 29-Dec-96
Dr. Foster decided to put Ned on the "University of Minnesota Spankological Protocol", which is nothing less than straight spanking for eight months in line. As time passes, Dr. Foster's attire changes to suit the current occasion and season -- while still spanking Little Ned. He changes into: a sweater (reading while spanking) during the Autumn, a Santa Suit during the Winter, a sportsshirt and party hat for Ned's birthday (Little Ned opens a birthday present), a summer shirt and shorts during the Summer, and finally back into his coat.
At the end, the treatment worked too well, making Ned unable to express anger by flooding it under waves of "nonsensical jabbering." Dr. Foster decides to delve into the heart of the problem, requiring someone who can upset Ned. Of course, Homer is called.
Homer: Yello? ... Yes? ... Mental hospital? ... Well I don't know any Ned Flanders.
Marge: The man who lived next door until his house blew down?
Homer: Oh, him!
-- How soon we forget, "Hurricane Neddy"
The family, wearing "Sane" tags, visits Ned at the mental hospital.
You folks are free to roam the grounds. Uh, just remember, one of our patients is a cannibal. Try to guess which one! I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.
