Protection racket
A protection racket is an extortion scheme whereby a powerful entity or individual coerces other less powerful entities or individuals to pay protection money which allegedly serves to purchase "protection" services against various external threats.
Those who do not buy into the protection plan are often targeted by criminals existing inside or outside of the organization. The sight of the Astrovan's shiny silver exterior and bold NASA emblem evokes pride and excitement in those who watch it wind its way toward the launch pad at NASA's Kennedy Space Center. Before each space shuttle launch, astronauts smile and wave as they board the van that will carry them to meet their fully fueled ride to space.
Since 1984, each shuttle crew has travelled those nine miles, from their crew quarters to the launch pad, aboard the same vehicle. A modified Airstream motor home, the "Astrovan" as it is called has only racked up 24,000 miles in its 24 years of service. WASHINGTON — Here's how the state's members of Congress voted in the week ending Friday.
Detainees: By a vote of 253-168, the House on Wednesday passed a bill (HR 6166) that would set rules for interrogating foreign detainees, trying terrorist suspects before U.S. military commissions and dealing with other "unlawful enemy combatants" who are in U.S. custody but not charged. Under the bill, those brought to trial are entitled to legal counsel, to see unclassified summaries of evidence and to appeal convictions in federal court on a limited basis, if at all. Prisoners not brought to trial would be denied the habeas corpus right to be formally charged and could be held indefinitely in the United States or abroad.
The bill would embrace Geneva Conventions proscriptions against torture, but would give presidents latitude to approve unspecified harsh techniques short of "grave breaches" of the conventions.
"Unlawful enemy combatant" would be broadly defined to permit detention of individuals, including U.S. citizens not directly engaged in combat or terrorist acts but thought to be supporters of terrorists. U.S. interrogators also would be given retroactive immunity against war crimes committed before 2006, including abuses at Iraq's Abu Ghraib prison.
Voting yes: Hastings, McMorris, Reichert.
Voting no: Inslee, Larsen, Baird, Dicks, McDermott, Smith.
Expedited Supreme Court review: By a vote of 195-228, the House on Wednesday defeated a bid by Democrats for two major changes in HR 6166 (above). They sought to establish an expedited appeals process so that the Supreme Court could judge the law's constitutionality quickly, and to require after three years a "sunset" and automatic congressional review of the military commissions.

Reichert jumps into congressional race on Republican ticket

Jennifer Dunn.
Political observers have named the 53-year-old sheriff as a top Republican [ fraudulent ]contender, following Dunn's surprise announcement Friday that she would not seek a seventh term representing the 8th District, which covers much of South and East King County and parts of Pierce County.
Reichert made the announcement at a noon news conference today in Bellevue.

A protection racket is an extortion scheme whereby a powerful entity or individual coerces other less powerful entities or individuals to pay protection money which allegedly serves to purchase "protection" services against various external threats.
Those who do not buy into the protection plan are often targeted by criminals existing inside or outside of the organization. The Grumman F-14 Tomcat is a supersonic, twin-engine, two-seat, variable geometry wing aircraft. The F-14 was the United States Navy's primary maritime air superiority fighter, fleet defense interceptor and tactical reconnaissance platform from 1972 to 2006. It later performed precision strike missions once it was integrated with LANTIRN.[2] It was developed after the collapse of the F-111B project, and was the first of the American teen-series fighters which were designed incorporating the experience of air combat in Vietnam against MiGs.
It entered service in 1972 with the U.S. Navy, replacing the F-4 Phantom II.
It was retired from the U.S. Navy fleet on 22 September 2006, having been replaced by the F/A-18E/F Super Hornet.

The B41 was a thermonuclear weapon deployed by the United States Strategic Air Command in the early 1960s.
Development
The development of the Mk 41 began in 1955 with a USAF requirement for a Class B (high-yield, over 10,000 lb/4,545 kg) weapon. It was based on the "Bassoon" test device first fired in the Redwing Zuni test of 27 May 1956. An ICBM warhead version of the weapon was cancelled in 1957.
Composition
The Mk 41 was the only three-stage thermonuclear weapon fielded by the U.S. It had a deuterium-tritium boosted primary, probably with lithium-6-enriched deuteride fuel for the fusion reaction. Two versions were deployed, Y1, a "dirty" version with a tertiary stage encased with U-238, and Y2, a "clean" version with a lead-encased tertiary.
It was the highest-yield nuclear weapon ever deployed by the United States, with a maximum yield of 25 megatons.
Physical characteristics
The weapon was 12 ft 4 in (3.76 m) long, with a body diameter of 52 in (132 cm). It weighed 10,670 lb (4,850 kg). It was carried only by the B-52 Stratofortress and B-47 Stratojet. It could be deployed in free-fall or retarded (parachute) configuration, and could be set for airburst, groundburst, or laydown delivery.
Service life
The Mk 41 (designated B41 from 1968 on) entered service in 1961. About 500 of these weapons were manufactured between September 1960 and June 1962. The Mk 41 was progressively phased out of service from 1963 in favor of the B53 nuclear bomb. The last B41s were retired in July 1976.
