Shades of '78 hoax in claim of cloning
Answer likely to come quicker

WASHINGTON — For all the speed with which science was progressing, virtually no one had thought it would happen so soon. Yet there it was in huge block letters on the front page of the New York Post: The world's first human clone had been born.
The next day, The Washington Post and other newspapers across the country ran with the story about the rogue scientists who had cloned a human on an undisclosed island. A spokesman connected to the effort refused to identify the infant, citing a desire to "protect the child from harmful publicity." Legislators quickly called for a ban on human cloning. And just as immediately came warnings that such a ban might choke off medically promising research.

Indeed, when representatives of the Raelians, an extraterrestrial-worshiping religious group, announced last week that they had created the world's first human clone, their claim was itself a clone of sorts--a clone of a similar claim made a quarter-century ago, which proved to be a hoax.
It took three months in 1978 for scientists to pick apart the science behind that purported achievement, and three years before a court definitively declared the claim fraudulent.
Now, with the availability of modern DNA fingerprinting, it should take no more than a few days for scientists to determine whether the alleged clone is a genetic replica of her mother.
Evidence was in short supply in 1978 when the New York Post's headline--"BABY BORN WITHOUT A MOTHER: He's first human clone"--sent the world into a fretful tizzy. The newspaper had caught wind of a book that was about to be published titled "In His Image: The Cloning of Man." The author, David Rorvik, was a science reporter who previously had worked for The New York Times and Time magazine.
Rorvik told of an American millionaire he said hired him to set up a lab on an unnamed Pacific island. There, he wrote, after five years of effort, a team of scientists cloned the man from one of his cells, creating a healthy baby boy in a surrogate mother.
That case was unraveled not by scientists but by a court-ordered demand for evidence that led to a legal ruling in 1981 that the story was "a fraud and a hoax," said Alex Boese, author of "The Museum of Hoaxes." In theory, at least, DNA fingerprinting should bring a speedier, more scientific solution to the current mystery. All that's needed are a couple of blood or tissue samples from the mother and the newborn.
Still, researchers noted, matching samples don't by themselves constitute proof because two DNA gels with identical patterns could simply be from the same person.
So as part of the independent validation process that has been promised, experts said, it will be necessary to track the "chain of custody" of the blood or skin samples from the moment they are retrieved from the mother and newborn. .
The chemical reaction used to amplify tiny amounts of DNA in preparation for genetic testing is also prone to cross-contamination between samples. That can lead to a false reading of genetic identity in two samples that are non-identical. Multiple tests, by multiple labs, are usually required.

ATLANTIS GATEROOM. As Replicators aim their weapons at the Gate, the Jumper bursts through the Gate and smashes into a Replicator who had just run down the stairs. He falls underneath the Jumper. The other Replicators fire at the Jumper but it is protected by its shield. As they continue to fire while the Jumper hovers just in front of the stairs, John activates the radio.
SHEPPARD: Authentication code Alpha Six Delta Charlie Niner. General O’Neill, Woolsey -- do you copy?
(In the corridor, Jack activates his radio.)
O’NEILL: Sheppard? Is that you?
SHEPPARD: Yes, sir. I need to know if you’re anywhere near Stargate Operations.
O’NEILL: No, we’re not.
SHEPPARD: That’s good. Can’t talk right now, sir. I’ll get back to you in a couple of hours. Sheppard out.
(He deactivates the radio and turns to Rodney.)
SHEPPARD: Drop the package.
McKAY: Package is ... away.
SHEPPARD: Hold on.
(Everyone braces themselves. As the Replicators continue to fire, John throws the Jumper into reverse, sending it back through the Stargate -- which has shut down -- and smashing through the wall behind it. In the Control Room, Talus turns to Cetus.)
TALUS: Follow me.
(The two of them hurry from the Control Room. Down in the Gateroom, Replicators cautiously approach a black box, about the size of a car battery, which has been dropped from the Jumper. It is beeping ominously. As they walk closer, the rate of beeping begins to increase until it is almost a continuous tone.)
(The view switches to an external shot of the moonlit city. The Jumper smashes through the outside wall of the central tower and flies backwards away from the tower just as the top of the tower explodes. Inside the Jumper, the team stares at the devastation in front of them. Elizabeth allows herself a small smile. John shrugs.)
SHEPPARD: That went well.
(The Jumper slows down and its engine pods deploy. It starts to go forwards again, flying past the burning tower and up into the sky.)

WOOLSEY: That sounded like an explosion.
O’NEILL: Because it was.

Plot Summary
Joan Fisk, daughter of the American ambassador to France, is bored with entertaining the wives of visiting V.I.P.s and decides to conduct an experiment. She accepts a date with an American G.I. and tries to prove to her father and his friends that not all soldiers are wolves. But by the end of their first date, when wine, music and the young man's charms have swept her off her feet, she realizes that she may have won more than the bet.

(Rodney reaches out to activate the H.U.D. to search for the whales but just then the water boils outside and Mum’s enormous eye appears as she passes right in front of the Jumper. In Atlantis’ Control Room, Radek sits up in his chair, startled.)
ZELENKA: Oh! They’re right in front of you.
SHEPPARD: Yeah! We were aware of that!
(Rodney grimaces in pain and puts his hand to his eyes.)
SHEPPARD: What’s wrong?
McKAY: Now my head’s hurting too.
SHEPPARD: That’s not a coincidence.

Plot Summary
At a used car lot, Mr. Magoo is intent on buying a car for his nephew Waldo. He is slick talked into buying an old clunker thanks to a shifty salesman but he drives it off anyway. Unfortunately, the myopic Magoo drives off a pier and under the ocean where he mistakes the various aquatic surroundings such as fish, sunken boats, and seals for other cars, dilapidated mansions, and a horn happy driver respectively.

Doctor Radek Zelenka is sitting in the co-pilot’s seat, dressed in casual gear. Ronon Dex is sitting behind him.
SHEPPARD: Well? How’d the camping go?
ZELENKA (excited and happy): Oh, splendid. I was able to run several ground-penetrating radar tests -- you know, to test the dielectric permittivity of the region’s subsurface.
(John frowns. He clearly has no idea what Radek is talking about.)
SHEPPARD: Sweet(!)
(He looks round at Ronon, who is sitting with his arms folded and a sulky look on his face.)
SHEPPARD: What about you? How was the hunting?
DEX (angrily): If there was any game, it was all scared off by the noises his stupid machines made.
ZELENKA: I said I was sorry. (Ronon grimaces at him behind his back.) It was necessary for the tests.
SHEPPARD (to Ronon): You’re the one who volunteered to go.
DEX: Well, if I do something like that again, shoot me.
ZELENKA (to John): He was like this all night, you know -- very agitated. Had me scared.
SHEPPARD: He’ll be alright. Get him home, get him a nice warm bath, hot meal ...
ZELENKA (looking through the windshield): Oh, no.

(Behind him, another ‘man’ works on a console.)
CETUS: I can’t.
ATHOSIAN SETTLEMENT. A Puddle Jumper hovers just in front of an open Stargate. On board are Lieutenant Colonel John Sheppard, Doctors Elizabeth Weir, Rodney McKay and Carson Beckett, and Teyla Emmagan and Ronon Dex. Rodney looks at his laptop.
McKAY: That’s confirmation. The Gate shield has lowered.
SHEPPARD: I hope this little plan of ours works.
McKAY: Ah, you and me both.
(With a grim look on his face, John sends the Jumper into the event horizon.)
WORMHOLE TRAVEL.
ATLANTIS GATEROOM. As Replicators aim their weapons at the Gate, the Jumper bursts through the Gate and smashes into a Replicator who had just run down the stairs. He falls underneath the Jumper. The other Replicators fire at the Jumper but it is protected by its shield. As they continue to fire while the Jumper hovers just in front of the stairs, John activates the radio.
SHEPPARD: Authentication code Alpha Six Delta Charlie Niner. General O’Neill, Woolsey -- do you copy?
(In the corridor, Jack activates his radio.)
O’NEILL: Sheppard? Is that you?
SHEPPARD: Yes, sir. I need to know if you’re anywhere near Stargate Operations.
O’NEILL: No, we’re not.
SHEPPARD: That’s good. Can’t talk right now, sir. I’ll get back to you in a couple of hours. Sheppard out.
(He deactivates the radio and turns to Rodney.)

The Reich Ministry of Public Enlightenment and Propaganda (German: Reichsministerium für Volksaufklärung und Propaganda or Propagandaministerium) was Nazi Germany's ministry that enforced Nazi Party ideology in Germany and regulated its culture and society. Founded on March 13, 1933, by Adolf Hitler's new National Socialist government, the Ministry was headed by Dr. Joseph Goebbels and was responsible for controlling the press and culture of Nazi Germany.
The Ministry was based in the Ordenspalais in Berlin-Mitte on the Wilhelmplatz across from the Reich Chancellery.
Role in the Nazi state
When the Nazis took power the Propaganda Ministry was established almost immediately. It was charged with enforcing Nazi doctrine on the people and controlling public opinion. However, the Ministry became even more important after the outbreak of war.
World War II was conducted with a much greater level of propaganda than World War I, especially in the new media of film and radio. Because of practical experience and scientific occupation with propaganda in Europe and USA, propaganda was organised in a planned fashion. A new psychological warfare was born.
Organization
The Ministry grew steadily. It began in 1933 with five departments and 350 employees. By 1939, there were 2000 employees in 17 departments. Between 1933 and 1941, the Ministry's budget grew from 14 million to 187 million Reichsmarks. Three state secretaries were subordinate to Joseph Goebbels
Propaganda

The Propaganda Ministry used many media to further the National Socialist message and maintain control over the people. Posters, newspapers, publishing, and the arts were all used and explicitly controlled by the Ministry.
Speeches were also used to great effect by the German Government. Goebbels commented on Hitler's first speech as Chancellor: "It will have great propaganda value...be used and viewed in cinemas for years to come...what an achievement."
Just before Hitler delivered this speech Goebbels introduced him and used the opportunity to highlight the importance of propaganda. "It seems you cannot have a good government without good propaganda, but then, you can't have good propaganda without a good government. However, you cannot lie! We must never lie! It is the Jews who must be made to pay for their lies to our people!”

As he groans and recoils, she leaps into the air, spins and kicks him hard in the waist. He doubles up, groaning, as Teyla watches him, looking pleased with herself.
TEYLA (insincerely): I am sorry. You weren’t expecting that?
(Ronon looks up at her. She grins.)
LATER. Teyla and Ronon are walking down the stairs. Teyla giggles.
DEX: I was tired. Been a long day.
TEYLA: Hmm!

(Her smile fades and she stares down the corridor. The Ancient woman is walking towards her again. Ronon looks at her face, then follows her gaze down the corridor. There’s no-one there. He looks back at Teyla.)
DEX: What is it?
(Teyla gazes at the woman as she walks towards her, speaking in the strange distorted, incomprehensible language.)
TEYLA: That woman.
(Ronon looks again but can still see no-one.)
DEX: What woman?
(The woman continues to speak unintelligibly as she walks towards Teyla with an urgent look on her face. Ronon looks puzzled as Teyla steps aside as the woman passes her. Teyla turns and watches the woman continue down the corridor, then follows her. The woman approaches a closed door at the end of the corridor. As she reaches it, the door slides open and a man stumbles out. Teyla gasps in horror as she realises that the man is hideously burned.

INFIRMARY. Teyla is lying on a bed with her eyes closed as a scanner passes back and forth over her. Nearby, Doctor Carson Beckett is watching the results of the scan on a screen with Elizabeth and Ronon.
BECKETT: The scan’s clean. No sign of any physical abnormality.
DEX: We’ve seen devices that mess with people’s minds -- cause them to hallucinate things.
BECKETT: Aye, but they’ve always had corresponding neural activity to indicate a problem. No, I’m afraid for the moment anyway, there doesn’t appear to be any physiological reasons for her hallucinations.
WEIR: Then why did she see what she saw?
BECKETT: I don’t quite know.
TEYLA: Many Ancestors died here recently. (She sits up.) During the Replicator invasion the crew of the Tria were all murdered. Perhaps they attempted to ascend but were prevented from fully doing so -- trapped between this plane of existence and the next.
WEIR: You mean ghosts?
(Ronon looks at Teyla with a half-cynical and half-sarcastic look on his face.)

A figure walks past in the dark corridor. Teyla follows after it and sees the long-haired woman walking along the corridor. Teyla follows her.

Plot Summary
British Intelligence during World War II is trying to get the German High Command to shift it's forces away from Italy prior to the invasion. To create the illusion of a plan for England to invade Greece a dead body is to be procured, allowed to be found with secret papers on him by Spanish authorities who will send the papers on to the Germans, or that's the plan. First they have to find a body that will look drowned, and create an identity for him that will pass the examination of the German agent who is sure to check him out. Based on a true story.

(The woman continues to speak unintelligibly as she walks towards Teyla with an urgent look on her face. Ronon looks puzzled as Teyla steps aside as the woman passes her. NEW YORK - A B-52 bomber mistakenly armed with live nuclear missiles flew straight across the heartland where millions of Americans live - and the crew had no clue what they were carrying.
An Air Force spokesman insisted "there was never a danger to the American public" and called the missile mishap last Thursday an "isolated incident."
"Air Force standards are very exacting when it comes to munitions handling," Lt. Col. Ed Thomas said. "The weapons were always in our custody."
The B-52 was loaded with cruise missiles carrying nuclear warheads ranging from 5 to 150 kilotons in destructive force, mounted onto pylons on the bomber's wings, according to the Military Times newspaper, which broke the story.
"You can wipe out a good-sized city with a 5-kiloton blast," said Jim Riccio, a nuclear policy analyst for Greenpeace. "A 150-kiloton warhead is 10 times the size of what they dropped on Hiroshima."

Summary
Industrialist Carlton Harris has discovered the bionic powers of Jaime Sommers, and arranges several secret "tests" so that he can film her in action. When Oscar realizes what is happening, he arranges a "falling out" with Jaime so that she can go to work for Carlton, who is suspected of selling government secrets. While stealing secrets for Carlton in an effort to gather evidence against him, Jaime befriends the industrialist's son, Donald, a law student who is bothered by his father's illegal activities.
Deconstructed
For years, "Welcome Home, Jaime," has been the subject of much debate and speculation in fan communities. For much of its post-broadcast life it was believed to have aired as originally intended: on Sunday, January 11, 1976 as a Six Million Dollar Man episode.
But research for the Time-LIfe 2010 Six Million Dollar Man - The Complete Collection revealed evidence to the contrary. Vintage promotional recordings and numerous newspaper articles indicate that "Welcome Home, Jaime," was pulled from the Six Million Dollar Man, Sunday night time slot, re-edited with Bionic Woman main/end titles and credits, issued a new production number, and pushed up to make its ABC broadcast debut on Wednesday, January 14, 1976 as the premiere episode of The Bionic Woman.
Speculation lingers on whether original film elements of "Welcome Home, Jaime" with its Six Million Dollar Man main/end titles and credits survived after the switch.

Sam Slade: You mean it isn't fully grown?
Professor Flaherty: No. In fact, we believe it is in rather early infancy.
Sam Slade: You're trying to say there may be a fully grown one of these things around somewhere?
Professor Hendricks: It's a fair assumption. Where there are offspring, there are generally parents.
Joe Ryan: How big would a full-grown one be?
Professor Flaherty: An approximate guess?
[He shows them two scale drawings of the creatures]
Professor Flaherty: The infant. The adult.
Joe Ryan: That would make it nearly two hundred feet tall!
Professor Flaherty: At the very least.
Professor Hendricks: Obviously, the proper authorities must be notified at once.
Joe Ryan: What are you trying to do? Stir up a whole hornet's nest because of a few calculations made on a piece of paper? Nuts to that!
Professor Flaherty: I'm afraid, Captain Ryan, the decision is no longer in your hands.

BIO-LAB. Elizabeth comes back in. Rodney is busy working on the console as John sits nearby watching.
WEIR: How’s he doing?
SHEPPARD: I don’t know. He’s taking a while. A lot longer than he usually takes.
(Rodney turns around, frowning.)
McKAY: He can hear you, you know!
SHEPPARD: Yeah. We know.
McKAY: OK, let’s have a listen.
(He types on the laptop that he has connected to the console. A distorted unintelligible voice can be heard.)
SHEPPARD: Who’s that?
WEIR: The woman -- the Ancient woman. That’s her voice, I’m sure of it.
SHEPPARD: She’s speaking Ancient?
WEIR: No. I mean, it doesn’t sound like the language. The phonetic rhythm is similar but I don’t recognise any of the words.
McKAY: That’s because it’s gibberish ... well, to be more accurate, it’s an attempt at mimicry. Look, it turns out the receiver is also a transmitter. The Ancients weren’t just trying to learn the whales’ language -- they were attempting to teach them theirs by sending them auditory and visual signals. And while they were doing that, they experienced a traumatic moment which the whales then stored in their genetic memory.
WEIR: And that’s what the images we’ve been seeing are?
McKAY: Exactly. Re-runs.

The thought occurs to me that I intercepted the comet above the elliptic plane, if that is the correct term, that the planets orbit around the sun. My brain gets real fuzzy as I try to read on that topic about elliptic orbits. That drawing of the polar view of the solar system could be something I have actually seen. I must have intercepted the comet above the elliptic and beyond Saturn.

Remember dreaming something about driving my Jeep. Then I returned to it where it was parked in a parking lot after I was traveling through some passageways, hallways in a transit facility maybe. The only part I remember clearly is where a woman, I assume was my imaginary girlfriend asked me out for drinks or something. I told her we needed to keep it really casual though because all I had to wear was sweatpants. Kind of the downside to dating a homeless person I reflect now as I write this. She told me she would wear something with holes in it. I hope that was her in my dream, although the woman in the dream seemed to be someone unfamilar though. But I have noticed that happening with other people I know. They are represented, somehow, by a different person, but I think of them as someone specific. I feel like that is part of the manipulation. I have noticed something similar in real dreams, but I don't think it is the same here. I think they are disquising themselves in my dream for some reason. Anyway, if it really was her, she actually doesn't have to worry about dressing down if we were to go out. Of course, if I have my way, it would be a moot point because why would I want to go out with her when I am in such an ugly situation? At the minimum, I would want to be back to work so that I have regained some independence. And hey, next time you are in my dreams, dear imaginary girlfriend, how about wearing a bikini? Red would be good, or yellow maybe.
