I have been thinking that on at least two occasions, I snuck into President Reagan's quarters at Camp David to assess the effectiveness of his U.S. Secret Service protection. I think that experience is reflected in what I wrote about the officer on the Taylor telling me about when he worked at the White House and had to wake up Reagan one night to give him a message. Another clue I wrote about was of coming home to Hicks Road on leave and Thedia telling me I should wake them up when I arrive late at night so they'll know I am there in case of a fire. I think what that represents is that I snuck in the first time and fell asleep on his couch and he woke me up the next morning. I did that to show how long I had been in there without anyone finding me. The next time, I went into their bedroom and woke him up and told him I had got past his protection detail again. He raised hell with the Secret Service and I was certainly not popular with the Secret Service after that.

Gates and his wife, Melinda, have consolidated their two charitable foundations and donated an additional $6 billion to the newly named Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, bringing its total worth to $17.1 billion, according to a report published on the Chronicle's Web site Sunday and confirmed by a co-chair of the Gates Foundation.The couple decided to merge the William H. Gates Foundation, named after Gates' father, and the Gates Learning Foundation so they could broaden their focus on learning and global health, said Patty Stonesifer, foundation co-chairwoman.
The move catapults the Seattle-based foundation to the top of the Chronicle's list of wealthiest charitble foundations, the newspaper said.

If she was in college from 1982 to 1986. Or did she attend college 1980 to 1984? I started thinking of one of another girls who was older than I and that started talking to me during high school in Ashdown.

In that photo, which I still had until a couple years ago, she was wearing a white t-shirt and standing in front of a door outside a house. I don't understand my feelings about that photo. Not so much negative feeling and not quite lousy, but not how I want it to be. I don't understand that.

Good morning. This week I signed into law a bill that supports our ongoing efforts to defend our homeland.
To defend this country, we have to enforce our borders. When our borders are not secure, terrorists, drug dealers, and criminals find it easier to sneak into America. My administration has a clear strategy for dealing with this problem: We want to stop people from crossing into America illegally and to quickly return the illegal immigrants we catch back to their home countries.
For the past 4 years, we've been implementing this strategy. To stop illegal immigrants from coming across our borders, we've added manpower, upgraded our technology, and taken the final steps necessary to complete a 14-mile barrier running along the San Diego border with Mexico.
To enforce our immigration laws within our borders, we've hired more immigration agents, gone after criminal gangs, and targeted smugglers and coyotes

Here's a theme I've noticed showing up in recent memory in the television series I have been tracking.
These storytellers, such as "Hawaii Five-O" are telling you about a medical doctor.
That medical doctor is willing to kill potentially every person on this planet on the pretense of saving one person personal to him. The doctor then goes back home getting off scot-free.
I don't know if you dullards are paying attention but this country is full of hate.
You can go anywhere in this country and find American people that hate Americans.
There is by far much more hate in this country than not.
People know that too about themselves. They dissuade themselves from that fact about themselves by their donations of money to some kind of cause.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A U.S. federal judge has agreed to allow six officers of MI5, Britain's domestic counterintelligence agency, to testify in disguise and use pseudonyms at the Brooklyn trial of an alleged al Qaeda militant.
In a court order issued earlier this week, Judge Raymond Dearie said MI5 believes there would be dire consequences if its officers were required to testify without disguises and under their own names in the trial of al Qaeda suspect Abid Naseer.
Jury selection is scheduled to begin next month in the trial. U.S. prosecutors allege Naseer conspired with others to commit coordinated bombings in Manchester, England, New York City and Copenhagen on behalf of al Qaeda. Naseer is defending himself.
The judge said prosecutors argued it was essential to their case for MI5 officers to testify because they were the sole witnesses to many of the operational activities Naseer undertook in connection with his alleged plot to bomb Manchester.
Prosecutors expect the British spies will testify about Naseer's meetings with alleged co-conspirators, his sending of coded messages to al Qaeda leaders, and his scouting of possible bombing targets.
In his ruling, the judge noted MI5 officers operate covertly both in Britain and overseas and are authorized to maintain their covers throughout their careers and even after they retire. "As a result they are effectively anonymous," he said.
He said MI5 argued that forcing its officers to testify under their real identities would compromise past and current undercover operations and jeopardize their safety.
The judge said he agreed with prosecutors that the "light disguises" proposed for the MI5 witnesses, consisting of wigs and light makeup, would allow the defendant and jury to view the witnesses' full facial expressions and assess the witnesses' credibility.

HOUSTON — They call themselves "lab rats," not astronauts and cosmonauts, as they undergo nonstop examinations measuring every imaginable body function in orbit.
For the third straight day Sunday, American astronaut Norman E. Thagard and his two Russian comrades endured a battery of blood, heart and lung tests aboard the linked U.S. shuttle Atlantis and the Russian space station Mir.
Even as they slept, a blood pressure cuff inflated and deflated automatically every half-hour. And for one 24-hour stretch over the weekend, each had to wear an electronic heart monitor with wires stuck to sandpaper spots on their chests.
"I guess our main function is to be sort of lab rats," Thagard said Sunday, his 110th day in orbit, nearly all of it on Mir.
Sometimes, enough is enough, even for a doctor. Thagard, a physician, made it clear he only wanted to wear the heart monitor once, said NASA mission scientist Tom Sullivan.
"I've had to wear it a few times myself for medical tests, and it's not a pain at all, but they do have to shave their chest hair off and your skin is kind of sensitive afterward," Sullivan said.
NASA has never had an opportunity to study such long-duration space fliers, and consequently wants to know everything about Thagard and cosmonauts Vladimir Dezhurov and Gennady Strekalov.
"I know they are tired at the end of the day. It's a long day," Sullivan said. "But I think they truly believe in the work that's being done, and they're excited about the results."
The National Aeronautics and Space Administration and the Russian space agency tested the communication systems on Atlantis, Mir and the Soyuz capsule attached to Mir on Sunday in preparation for the undocking Tuesday.
Thagard, who turns 52 today, said that while he is looking forward to leaving Mir, it has been a memorable four months.
"I joked with these guys . . . you call for a taxi and wait forever," he said. "But the fact is, [Thursday's docking] was an emotional experience, one of the highest, I guess, of my life. I'm awfully glad to be here, and I'm really looking forward to seeing my family."

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration's Tommy Holloway, manager of the docking program, couldn't resist comparing this mission to the harrowing Apollo 13 flight, which took place 25 years ago and is currently being glamorized by Hollywood.
