Be serious. No one can resist this form of questioning. You might also wish to consider your position," the man said more harshly. "You are an officer in the army of a foreign government

I don't know why I decided to watch this

Didn't appear to be anything I would want to see

Mostly, I just wanted to find something to try to stay awake

And that wouldn't be more work

Sometimes these sort of stories remind me of just how lucky I was back then in my youth. I was very proud back then to be active-duty US Navy but there was rarely any reinforcement to it from people I knew personally. None of those people from my youth could relate to it. I had no positive role models in my youth. I practically raised myself. All Thedia cared about was me not getting the police involved so as to not draw attention to herself. Other than that she didn't give a damn what I did.

Seeing this video today as it started, my first thoughts were of that kid that was my step-brother in the 1980's

He had no real ambitions

Seemed the only reason he had a job at all was because his father gave him a job at the gravel-pit as nightwatchman

He, remarkably, graduated high-school the year following my class

His father was Thedia's 5th husband, beginning in 1980, and during my first 14 years of life.

They - his three kids - certainly could not relate to me. To her newest husband, I was just Thedia's luggage

So they were never the problem. Thedia was never the problem. Completely clueless

I went back there on leave from the US Navy because, after my youth as growing up trailer-trash - as people say - that life we had when she was married to her 5th husband was the closest thing to a feeling of home I had ever experienced. I really liked that place out in the country.

She married that guy and I was expecting everything to be back the way it was in just a few short months. But nope, she was married to him for about or almost 8 years.

My guess - I can only guess - is the change was that she had a better lawyer. Her fourth husband had been a nightmare of turmoil. However, he was part of a family that was prominent in business in the little town we lived in so that was probably all it took for her to secure a better lawyer. And then she was instructed on how to keep her latest husband from dumping her after he got tired of her, which probably happened very soon. That's what the mortgage accomplished, is my guess.

So anyway, I see this character, he's the starring character "Bradley" and I think of that kid back in 1985 and 1986. The Benson character doesn't remind me of anyone at all

I remember being back there on leave three separate times back then.

I think I felt cheated, that after finally finding a sense of home, I had to leave. I didn't want to give up on that place. Couldn't care less about those people and I didn't care anything at all about them. But I sure did like that place. Too immature to form the idea of making some place like that somewhere else on my own. Well, I did have those thoughts but just could not connect those thoughts with actions

My step-brother didn't live long enough to work himself up into some sort of menial, fast-food job like Bradley in that video, but that seems to have been the best hope he had. He had a high-school degree but I think he was about as uneducated as his father and proud of it.

I can remember Thedia working fast-food jobs but I'm certain she quit because it was too beneath her and her 10th grade education.

I often wonder why she was selected to be a surrogate mother for me. Sure wasn't because of ambition.

All she did was make life a lot harder for me in my youth than it should have been.

None of this would even be a matter of contention anymore for me if it wasn't for my challenge since the VA hospital to figure out what the hell happened to me back then.

I was back there on leave when he died in 1986. They told me he wrecked his vehicle late at night. I remember being especially depressed for a long time after that. I had been depressed for a long time before that but that occurrence became another incident that collected in my conscious awareness.

There's also that theory that Thomas Reagan was clandestinely drugging me so that someday in the future, when my enlistment ended, right around the same time I discovered my fantastic new super-humans powers, he could explain that I had never discovered it before because the medical-drugs were repressing my superpowers and he couldn't let that happen until he could directly control my activities

August 5, 2006

I started school in Orlando, I think, in February 1986 and finished in Dam Neck, VA, sometime around July 1987.

The dates match with my memory of leaving the Taylor in Maine for BE/E in Orlando. I remember it was snowing when I left Portland and about 36 to 48 hours later, I was driving down the beach at Daytona

9/15/2006 4:43 PM

When I arrived in Orlando as FC3 Kerry Burgess, I was put in charge of a group of sailors as they were all just out of boot camp and I was the only Petty Officer. They were all in that program to earn the rank of 3rd Class Petty Officer but I had already earned it while in the fleet through a process called “striking.” PO3 is the first rank of Petty Officer

Since it was a Basic Electricity and Electronics school in Orlando, the group consisted of people aspiring for different Navy enlisted designations. Most of us were either in the Fire Controlman program or the Electronics Technician (ET) program. After completing that BE/E program, we went to Chicago for, in my case, FC “A” school. The others went to ET “A” or whatever technical career they were pursuing. After graduating from “A” school was when they were promoted to FC3 or ET3. I was already an FC3 but I didn’t get another promotion at that point, having to earn it on my own. From there, some of us went on to specialist training in Dam Neck, VA. I did get a new designation after graduating from there. After completing the course on the fire-control computer, I earned a Navy Enlisted Classification (NEC) code of 1189.

What the hell happened here?

Oh, Mike!

How do you like the colour scheme?

Delores did it.

You remember Delores?

Hello, Michael.

It's so lovely to see you again.

Lovely. Lovely.

I hardly recognise the place.

I know we shouldn't have gone off to Reno to get married like lovesick puppies!

Don't worry, sugarplum.

I'll have a talk with him.

You are going to socialise with your new stepmother. Do I make myself clear?

Stepmother?!

AWOL MARINE CHARGED IN DEATHS OF PARENTS, BROTHER

AP , Associated Press

AP NEWS ARCHIVE Apr. 15, 1987 11:46 AM ET

ASHDOWN, ARK. ASHDOWN, Ark. (AP) _ A 21-year-old man who was absent without leave from the Marine Corps has been charged with capital murder in the shooting deaths of his parents and younger brother, whose bodies were found in their fire-gutted home, authorities say.

Marine Cpl. Thomas Dewayne Dinger was arrested about 1:20 a.m. today when he showed up at the house on foot, wearing a backpack and carrying a fishing rod, said Prosecutor Jim Bob Steel.

State police and Little River County deputies were at the house three miles south of Ashdown because members of the Ashdown Volunteer Fire Department had discovered three bodies when they responded to a fire call late Tuesday, Sheriff Dallas Keller said.

The sheriff identified those killed as James Thomas Dinger, 41; his wife, Shirley Dinger, about 40; and their 14-year-old son, Brian Dinger.

According to Keller, Dinger told police his younger brother was shot first, in a bedroom, with a .22-caliber pistol, and then Mrs. Dinger was shot with the pistol. Their bodies were found inside the house.

The sheriff said the senior Dinger was wounded with a shotgun outside the house as he arrived home from work for a painting contractor, and then was shot several times with the pistol.

An empty gasoline can was found atop the 14-year-old's body in the bedroom, the sheriff said, adding the house had apparently been set afire shortly after the elder Dinger was shot.

Steel said Dinger was being held in the county jail at Ashdown, and an arraignment was scheduled today.

Neither Steel nor Keller knew where Dinger had been stationed with the Marine Corps. Officials said he had been AWOL for about 10 days.

Steel said Dinger told authorities he had been planning to leave home yesterday and turn himself in to Marine officials.

''We figure the argument was over him leaving,'' Keller said. ''His daddy said he was going back.''

JONAS Yesterday, you said that there was evidence that Flemming and Stofer were conducting research into cloning.

CARTER No, I said there was evidence they were reading up on stem cells.

JONAS Which can be used to create human clones. What if the man from the restaurant doesn't remember because the man in the bar wasn't really him? He was a clone.

CARTER No, no, no. Jonas. You can create replicas of fully grown people. They'd be infants.

JONAS So you know what's going on here?

CROSS Of course. We've been monitoring the situation for the last three months.

TEAL'C (to Jonas) They are waiting for the symbiotes to complete the ship.

CROSS It's going to be the first line of our new planetary defense system.

JONAS You set this whole thing up?

CROSS No. We just took advantage of the situation. Immunitech cloned the symbiotes. Then there was some kind of an accident. We figure Flemming was the first to be infected and then he went after the other townspeople.

JONAS Flemming is the one who tipped us off.

TEAL'C The symbiotes are immature. They are too weak to assert permanent control.

CROSS But when the hosts go to sleep, they take over. When people wake up the next morning, they're a little tired, but none the wiser.

Red Storm Rising (1986) - Tom Clancy

(from internet transcript)

excerpts, Chapter 13. – The Strangers Arrive and Depart

AACHEN, FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF GERMANY

"Siegfried Baum" awoke six hours later to see three men wearing surgical garb. The effect of the anesthesia still heavy on him, his eyes could not focus properly.

"How are you feeling?" one asked. In Russian.

"What happened to me?" The major answered in Russian.

Ach so. "You were struck by a car and you are now in a military hospital," the man lied. They were still in Aachen, near the German-Belgian frontier.

"What . . . I was just coming out to-" The major's voice was that of a drunken man, but it stopped abruptly. His eyes tried to focus properly.

"It is all finished for you, my friend." Now the speaker switched to German. "We know you are a Soviet officer, and you were found in possession of classified government documents. Tell me, what is your interest in Lammersdorf?"

"I have nothing to say," replied "Baum" in German.

"A little late for that," the interrogator chided, switching back to Russian. "But we'll make it easy for you. The surgeon tells us that it is now safe to try a new, ah, medication for you, and you will tell us everything you know. Be serious. No one can resist this form of questioning. You might also wish to consider your position," the man said more harshly. "You are an officer in the army of a foreign government, here in the Federal Republic illegally, traveling with false papers, and in possession of secret documents. At the least, we can imprison you for life. But, given what your government is doing at the moment, we are not concerned with 'least' measures. If you cooperate you will live, and probably be exchanged back to the Soviet Union at a later date for a German agent. We will even say that we got all our information due to the use of drugs; no harm could possibly come to you from this. If you do not cooperate, you will die of injuries received in a motor accident."

"I have a family," Major Andre Chernyavin said quietly, trying to remember his duty. The combination of fear and drug-induced haze made a hash of his emotions. He couldn't tell there was a vial of sodium pentothol dripping into his IV line, and already impairing his higher brain functions. Soon he would be unable to consider the long-term consequences of his action. Only the here and now would matter.
