(a) Whoever, with intent or reason to believe that it is to be used to the injury of the United States or to the advantage of a foreign nation, communicates, delivers, or transmits, or attempts to communicate, deliver, or transmit, to any foreign government, or to any faction or party or military or naval force within a foreign country, whether recognized or unrecognized by the United States, or to any representative, officer, agent, employee, subject, or citizen thereof, either directly or indirectly, any document, writing, code book, signal book, sketch, photograph, photographic negative, blueprint, plan, map, model, note, instrument, appliance, or information relating to the national defense, shall be punished by death or by imprisonment for any term of years or for life, except that the sentence of death shall not be imposed unless the jury or, if there is no jury, the court, further finds that the offense resulted in the identification by a foreign
power (as defined in section 101(a) of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act of 1978) of an individual acting as an agent of the United States and consequently in the death of that individual, or directly concerned nuclear weaponry, military spacecraft or satellites, early warning systems, or other means of defense or retaliation against large-scale attack; war plans; communications intelligence or cryptographic information; or any other major weapons system or major element of defense strategy.
(b) Whoever, in time of war, with intent that the same shall be communicated to the enemy, collects, records, publishes, or communicates, or attempts to elicit any information with respect to the movement, numbers, description, condition, or disposition of any of the Armed Forces, ships, aircraft, or war materials of the United States, or with respect to the plans or conduct, or supposed plans or conduct of any naval or military operations, or with respect to any works or measures undertaken for or connected with, or intended for the fortification or defense of any place, or any other information relating to the public defense, which might be useful to the enemy, shall be punished by death or by imprisonment for any term of years or for life.
(c) If two or more persons conspire to violate this section, and one or more of such persons do any act to effect the object of the conspiracy, each of the parties to such conspiracy shall be subject to the punishment provided for the offense which is the object of such conspiracy.
(d)
(1) Any person convicted of a violation of this section shall forfeit to the United States irrespective of any provision of State law—
(A) any property constituting, or derived from, any proceeds the person obtained, directly or indirectly, as the result of such violation, and
(B) any of the person’s property used, or intended to be used, in any manner or part, to commit, or to facilitate the commission of, such violation.

Bid May Steady Mrs. Clinton's Campaign

ALBANY, N.Y. - Hillary Rodham Clinton's announcement that she intends to run for the Senate from New York should calm nervous supporters and bring order to a rocky campaign, advisers and political experts predict.
"The announcement puts New York Democrats more at ease, squelches the rumors that she may not go and puts more direction back into her campaign," said New York-based Democratic strategist Hank Sheinkopf.
Yesterday, Mrs. Clinton used an appearance before a teachers union in New York City to say she intends to run for the Senate seat being vacated next year by fellow Democrat Daniel Patrick Moynihan. The first lady said she will make a formal announcement next year.
"It's time to get moving and get started," she said. "I'll be traveling around the state and campaigning."
The race is expected to pit her against New York City Mayor Rudolph Giuliani.
After a series of campaign missteps in recent weeks - including complaints over her handling of Palestinian-Israeli issues during a Mideast trip earlier this month - numerous New York supporters had been urging Mrs. Clinton to devote more of her energies to the race. With polls showing her support slipping, some Democrats were saying she shouldn't even run.
State Democratic Chairwoman Judith Hope had suggested it might be time for Mrs. Clinton "to give up her day job" and move to New York. State Comptroller H. Carl McCall said she should also hire a full-time campaign manager.
"All three of those things ought to happen simultaneously and as quickly as possible, like tomorrow," McCall said last week.
Aides to the first lady conceded privately that they used yesterday's event to get past a particularly rocky period.
In recent days, media coverage of the Senate race in New York had largely spun out of control for Mrs. Clinton as the fallout from her trip to the Mideast continued.
State Sen. Carl Kruger, a Jewish Democrat from Brooklyn, had announced he was backing Giuliani because of Mrs. Clinton's embrace of Yasser Arafat's wife during the trip. That hug already appears in an anti-Hillary Clinton TV ad, paid for by the Republican Jewish Coalition, that is running in New York City and Washington.
Mrs. Clinton said yesterday she would move into her new home in suburban Westchester County, just north of New York City, as soon as the Secret Service gives her the OK.

With the announcement, Ironman Utah becomes the western-most Ironman event in the continental United States.
Ironman North America, the city of Provo and the Utah County Convention and Visitors Bureau are pleased to announce the addition of an Ironman event in Provo, Utah to take place on Saturday, June 8, 2002. Provo will play host to Ironman Utah for the next five years.
"We are very excited to be coming to Provo," said Ironman North America President Graham Fraser.
Provo becomes one of only four sites in the continental United States to play host to an Ironman event, joining Lake Placid, N.Y. (Ironman USA Lake Placid), Panama City, Fla. (Ironman Florida) and Madison, WI (Ironman Wisconsin). The addition of Provo provides an Ironman event in four different regions (Northeast, Southeast, Midwest, West) of the United States.

June 8, 2002 Ironman Utah!
On Ironman morning as I battled 6-foot swells in Utah Lake, swallowing lung sized gulps of dark brown Utah Lake water, I feared that perhaps that dream just might become reality.
Unfortunately it WAS reality for fellow Ironman swimmer John Boland from Redondo Beach, California who lost his life in Utah Lake that day. The only swimming fatality in the history of Ironman happened in that Lake that day probably no more than a stone's throw away from me.
I was worried about the mass swim start in the dark, murky water. How long would I be bashed about? Will I lose my goggles? How can I spot other swimmers under the muddy water? - I couldn't even see my hand in front of my face during yesterday's practice swim!

The Ironman triathlon is one of the most grueling sporting events.
Nearly 2,000 participants from across the United States as well as Canada and Mexico are registered to compete Saturday.
The 2002 Ironman Utah Triathlon is the first of five-year commitment for the event in the state. It is projected to have a $5 million local economic impact annually.
Athletes have 17 hours to complete the event, which begins at 7 a.m.
The Ironman Utah Triathlon is one of five such events in continental North America.
The Utah event allows for 80 qualifying spots for the Ironman Triathlon World Championship in Hawaii, including one slot in each male and female age category.
The event:
A 2.4-mile swim in Utah Lake starts in deep water off the north finger of the Utah Lake Stake Park, heading out in a northwest direction and going in a counter-clockwise direction. At the end of the loop, athletes will enter the boat inlet and exit the lake on the middle boat ramp.
A 112-mile cycling segment begins as triathletes exit Utah State Park, heading east on Center Street and proceeding north to Vivian Park in Provo Canyon, to Lincoln Beach on the southeastern shores of Utah Lake and to the north end of Mona Lake before returning to Provo and the BYU campus.
A 26.2-mile marathon takes runners on loops from BYU north to Orem's Center Street, south to southern Provo and then concluding at the BYU Track and Field Complex.

Bid May Steady Mrs. Clinton's Campaign

ALBANY, N.Y. - Hillary Rodham Clinton's announcement that she intends to run for the Senate from New York should calm nervous supporters and bring order to a rocky campaign, advisers and political experts predict.
"The announcement puts New York Democrats more at ease, squelches the rumors that she may not go and puts more direction back into her campaign," said New York-based Democratic strategist Hank Sheinkopf.
Yesterday, Mrs. Clinton used an appearance before a teachers union in New York City to say she intends to run for the Senate seat being vacated next year by fellow Democrat Daniel Patrick Moynihan. The first lady said she will make a formal announcement next year.
"It's time to get moving and get started," she said. "I'll be traveling around the state and campaigning."
The race is expected to pit her against New York City Mayor Rudolph Giuliani.
After a series of campaign missteps in recent weeks - including complaints over her handling of Palestinian-Israeli issues during a Mideast trip earlier this month - numerous New York supporters had been urging Mrs. Clinton to devote more of her energies to the race. With polls showing her support slipping, some Democrats were saying she shouldn't even run.
State Democratic Chairwoman Judith Hope had suggested it might be time for Mrs. Clinton "to give up her day job" and move to New York. State Comptroller H. Carl McCall said she should also hire a full-time campaign manager.
"All three of those things ought to happen simultaneously and as quickly as possible, like tomorrow," McCall said last week.
Aides to the first lady conceded privately that they used yesterday's event to get past a particularly rocky period.
In recent days, media coverage of the Senate race in New York had largely spun out of control for Mrs. Clinton as the fallout from her trip to the Mideast continued.
State Sen. Carl Kruger, a Jewish Democrat from Brooklyn, had announced he was backing Giuliani because of Mrs. Clinton's embrace of Yasser Arafat's wife during the trip. That hug already appears in an anti-Hillary Clinton TV ad, paid for by the Republican Jewish Coalition, that is running in New York City and Washington.
Mrs. Clinton said yesterday she would move into her new home in suburban Westchester County, just north of New York City, as soon as the Secret Service gives her the OK.
