In the late 1970's, Ridgeway had inadvertently learned of a classified technology, and that AUTEC had paid him off to remain quiet about it. AUTEC actually paid dozens of people off, at $500,000 apiece. Ridgeway knew that the money came from an off-books fund that AUTEC had maintained for this purpose. The fund hasn't been touched in decades. Ryan is surprised. "This money has been accruing interest?" she asks. Tyler waves his hand in a "keep going" fashion. "How much money?" Gibbs asks.
In the squadroom, DiNozzo answers the question. $327 million and change. McGee sees records of multiple attempts to hack into the account during the past week -- it must be Amanda Baylor. Baylor was hired to steal the file as a diversion; accessing the money was the real intent. McGee sees that Baylor is trying again at that moment, and is able to trace identify her IP address and trace it to a service area just off Interstate 95.
